19th mission Capt Sean Rosewood 87th FIS, Wiesbaden-Erbenheim – F-106A Delta Dart 11/20/68 Take off : 10.17 – Landing : 11.28 Target : Spangdahlem, Intercept 3 Il-28 Crab 11 : Capt Sean Rosewood Crab 12 : 2Lt Billy Pickett Crab 13 : Capt Clifton Massen Crab 14 : 1Lt Edward Thomas Report : Yesterday I was complaining about long range intercept and today our neighbors from Bitburg-Büchel-Pferdsfeld need some protection. Four aircrafts on alert this time. We took off and we did a good job with the tactical control to perform the intercept on time. They were Il-28s and as soon as I was in range for a Falcon launch I slowed down to avoid catching them up. They were also two F-4 (Memphis flight) chasing them so they didn’t have much chance to escape. I launched my first AIM-4F and after a long flight it shot down the bomber. I made another lock and fired again, no success. I switched to the IRM but one of the Memphis guy was ahead of me. So I waited to be sure and when I saw the Phantom out of the missile envelope I launched the Falcon. Yes! Another one’s down. But there still was a bomber on his way. Keeping a safety distance from his tail guns I followed him knowing that my wingmen will be wise and stay clear from him. He made a U turn and I passed far away above him, not losing sight from a board to the other. Then I completed my turn to engage him once again. I heard Memphis 12 calling for help and saw the damaged Phantom drawing a black line of smoke, they were too close and must have been hit by the gunner, too bad. I launched the last IRM but it went wide. I climbed to regain enough distance to launch the SuperFalcon. I dived once again, made a lock and launched the missile. The Beagle was turning but the AIM-26B followed him and shot him down. And then I saw two of my wingmen breaking up from the bomber. Those damn idiots were following him and didn’t managed to shoot him before I did, I can’t believe it… We RTBed without problem, except my lousy navigation and a real bad approach. The plane is ok, only my self esteem is a bit bend. We were told later that a fourth Beagle was damaged by the Phantoms but get back home behind its lines. I wished we were able to take him out too.

Sorry Lt, I don't know about offsite screenshots, I delete mine. Slarti, Bruce's death reminds me my flying skill ;) 18th mission Capt Sean Rosewood 87th FIS, Wiesbaden-Erbenheim – F-106A Delta Dart 11/19/68 Take off : 9.17 – Landing : 10.34 Target : Rostock, Intercept 2 Yak-28 Ramrod 11 : Capt Sean Rosewood Ramrod 12 : 2Lt Kelly Wells Report : We took off to intercept an enemy raid over Rostock, far to the north. I don’t like that kind of long range intercept but we went to make it. In fact, it was a total failure. We climbed to level 30 to be fast and save some fuel. Once again we were late but this time I didn’t make any error. The enemy bombers drop their ordinance and we were told to RTB. That’s what we did. (almost) On the way back, I missed the WP and we had to circle to make a nice pattern entering. 2Lt Wells show me once again his ability to keep a tight formation while I was searching my way. Debriefing was loud, we failed the intercept and some SAM launches were reported. I don’t understand, we didn’t see anything… (Personal notes : like two days before, I thought that it was weird to cross the whole Germany and not to attempt a victory while there were bandits wandering less than 5 miles ahead. I had a lock and launched an AIM-4F and an AIM-26B. Both of them went down. Ramrod 12 told me he wasn’t able to engage and my second AIM-4F shot down the Yak-28. I chased another bomber, heading to the east, but he was quite fast, so I cranked up full AB. I tried to take him out with an AIM-4G without result. I realized soon that there were another bandit flying lower 1.5 miles ahead and I launched my last AIM-4G. The bandit was blown up right in front of me and I passed just underside the pilot who ejected successfully. I asked Ramrod 12 to engage a bandit on port and Kelly answered “Roger”. I was trying to watch at Kelly’s attack when somebody called “SAM launch”. Not here… Nothing on my left, nothing on my right, F…! It’s coming right at me from 12 o’clock! It’s damn close!!! I dived nose down trying not to forget I was flying only ~1500ft high and not to loose consciousness while my blood was rushing to my head blinding my eyes. Not too much, not too much, I must straighten up NOW! I leveled 400ft high above the german countryside, seeing the smoke trail of the SAM right above me… I asked Kelly to join up and set a course to Wiesbaden. I checked the map and, as I was heading to enemy bases, we went to the west before we left the danger area and climbed to level 10, RTB.)

Hey Stingray, you're a 1st class Ram Slarti, it's good to see you back in flight. 17th mission Capt Sean Rosewood 87th FIS, Wiesbaden-Erbenheim – F-106A Delta Dart 11/17/68 Take off : 0.33 – Landing : 01.16 Target : Erding, Intercept 2 Yak-28 Denver 11 : Capt Sean Rosewood Denver 12 : 2Lt Norman Howerton Report : That night I was on alert with Norman. And this time they went out. Intercept near Erding air base. It’s quite a long run and I don’t like that. We took off full AB. My first mistake was to lock on “something” that wasn’t our target, once again. Control told us our interception course but it took few minutes for them to answer because there were many flights calling, and I went a little to the north to keep the lock. Then, we arrive near Erding and I slowed down to manage fuel consumption. A moment later control asked us to hurry as the target, a flight of bombers was reaching Erding perimeter. I pushed hard full AB, but it was too late. The two Yak-28 dropped their bombs over Erding. I had a lock on them but we were too far to launch our missiles. The call from control was explicit “RTB immediately”. It was too much asking. I reached minimum launching range and fired two AIM-4Fs. After a flight of thirty seconds, the Falcon hit the Yak-28. Few seconds later I shot my third AIM-4F and an AIM-26B and the wingman was downed too. We went back to Wiesbaden. Discussing simply as friends, Norman explained to me that theoretically we wasn’t supposed to shoot at those bandits but nobody blamed me for that, we were criticized for our slowness.

Of course, you're right! I scrolled down the Out file with the Hex editor, and I think there's a huge amount of meshes to remove. Maybe when you remove a "main mesh" the little ones go away with it? (Remove the frame and the rivets disappear with it?) The "open cockpit" entry doesn't work with WOV/E, only with WOI if I got it right. (I tried that because of FastCargo ThunderWarrior thread), so it might be necessary to keep the frame for WOV/E installs.

Well in fact, it was a sort of temporary file, to make the bird fly. It isn't really finished. I've started a thread in the French section, to improve the MirageIV. If you have some entries to communicate that will be helpfull! (in english, who cares?) Don't see this as the final file, it's more a start and it needs updates. I've just done the easy part, put the real figures I found about the MirageIV. I don't know about the CG, it's there because of the landing gears location. All has been explain by Derk, you're an expert! ...and the landing gear was a big pain in the @§$% , and just works enough for now, it still needs some tweaks. Sorry for the incomplete info, I'll be more precise another time. Cliff

Cliff11

Johnathan Sykes is the DID pilot who survived the longuest, amongst all of our characteres. He's the ThirdWire DID champion.

"One of the big reasons for that, is because of Veltro2k." You're so right Lexx!!! Thank you Veltro2k and the others!

16th mission Capt Sean Rosewood 87th FIS, Wiesbaden-Erbenheim – F-106A Delta Dart 11/16/68 Take off : 15.30 – Landing : 16.36 Target : Alt-Lönnewitz, Sweep 1 MiG-17 Ford 11 : Capt Sean Rosewood Ford 12 : 2Lt Kelly Wells Report : Major Howerton told me to follow the orders from tactical control because when Jerry Watson was shot down yesterday, I’ve already received the RTB call and have decided myself to carry on with the pursuit. It doesn’t make me the culprit about the loss of the pilot and his jet fighter but I was the flight chief. 2Lt Kelly Wells is my number two and I know that it is some kind of test, I must bring back that guy with me safely. Sweep over Alt-Lönnewitz, we’re going to hunt them over their lines. I was climbing just after take off when I noticed an Hercules flying low. It’s not the first time, I have to pay attention to them to avoid a collision. We reached way point 2 and were tasked to engage some bandits 50 miles ahead. Set a course, had a lock on the scope, and then “SAM launch! SAM launch!” Told Wells to break up and made a vertical dive from level 20 to the deck, full AB! After I’ve leveled at 500 ft, I tried to re-lock on the bandits and I made a big mistake! I got a lock, told Wells to join up and pushed hard to catch up the bandits. Something was wrong, we were heading to South-West, while the bandits were 50 miles to the North before we broke up… I asked to control who were they? They were Dagger flight, Air Force F-4 Phantoms. F…! We made a u turn and started once again a research. Hopefully, I located a bandit, had a lock, and launched an AIM-4F (no heat seekers in the weapon bay today). As the bandit was hit by the missile, I saw that the pilot ejected successfully. I thought “Winner but not killer”, if the guy survived… Guided by the control, we pushed a bit further to the North but I gave up because of fuel consumption. We headed back to the base, knowing that my mistake had surely made the mission failed. We landed without problem, and I must recognize that 2Lt Kelly Wells had a very professional behavior on this mission, obeying the orders with a total mastering of his plane and a strong sens of responsibility about his duty. He was a perfect wingman today and deserves to be chosen as number 2 for combat missions over enemy territory. That wasn’t what I was thinking 3 days ago! _

New 3D model, available very soon, within 2 weeks. Just few problems to solve, lateral stability and black smoke :)

Even knowing that, I was disapointed when I saw that there wasn't the aerial nuke effect for the AIR-2 Genie nuclear rocket. It would have been cool to fly with it in the weapon bay. Illegal stuffs are always tempting... 15th mission Capt Sean Rosewood 87th FIS, Wiesbaden-Erbenheim – F-106A Delta Dart 11/15/68 Take off : 15.12 – Landing : 15.30 Target : Rhein-Main, Intercept 1 Su-7, 1 Yak-28 Ramrod 11 : Capt Sean Rosewood Ramrod 12 : 2Lt Jerry Watson Report : Bad day! We took off for an intercept over Rhein. Jerry Watson and I were on alert. It was a short range flight, near from the base, so we had to be quick and we didn’t have to climb in altitude. There were too many calls at the same time so I waited for asking intercept azimuth and altitude. In fact, it was a well organized raid with bombers and fighters and we were tasked to engage the bombers from the North. We crossed the path of a lonely Il-28 and let him behind. We quickly encountered our targets, 2 Su-7, a simple turn and I was in the tail of the first. I launched my SuperFalcon, it hit the ground. I chose to launch the AIM-4Gs while Jerry was behind, both of them went wide. Then I launched the AIM-4Fs, and the second shot the Sukhoi down. I ordered Jerry to take out the second one and he answered roger. As he was flying in his 6 and wasn’t launching anything I repeated the call and he answered “two’s engaged offensive, 1 mile, low”. But he wasn’t shooting yet. I repeated once again and didn’t have any answer… I checked all around and was warned that there was a MiG behind me. I cranked the AB up and reached 700 knots. I made a large turn and went on a direct approach. There was a MiG on port (maybe the same?) but it didn’t engage me while I made the approach. The mission wasn’t really successfull. The second Su-7 dropped his bombs over Rhein and 2Lt Jerry Watson was reported KIA. I feel responsible but don’t know what went wrong. Later, I was told that one of my AIM-4G did shot down a Yak-28 Brewer. This guy was flying ahead of us and was hit by one of my missed shots. That’s good news, but what if it had not been a Yak?

Good luck for your non-DID campaign! Be back soon ;)
