  1. New York JFK Sorry fellas/fellattes. Maybe "fun" can be had at a small un-controlled airport. There is no "fun" when a taxi or runway accident happens at busy international airports. Thanks Gr.Viper for that link ~> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeroflot_Flight_593 UKPilot:: Airport operations have everything to do with safety. Everything example you and others put forth about regulations causing lack of life experience has nothing to do with professional aviation safety. ONETINSOLDIER:: "...went boating without a lifejacket, rode a bike without a helmet..." Fantastic! You risk your own safety, and nobody elses. That is what freedom is all about. As a real example of what could have been done differently: The controller possibly could have put his kid in for early young flying lessons, which would include communications at smaller airports.
  2. Congrats! :drinks: Well there goes the new truck.
  3. K-9 is listed in lindr's Weapon Pack (Part 1) here... ~> http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=7224
  4. :yikes: That pic with -152 lineup. 76 with all these positive waves, I mean what can go wrong? My kind of flight sim.
  5. Wow looks fantaxtic 76. lindr made a K-9 for us. That invites Ye-152A which was an even kewler looking bird. 76, The R-4R wingtip pylons were a complete failure. Just say NO! Plans were afoot in the MiG bureau to move the R-4s under wing at half span. But the project was cancelled in favour of MiG-25 before the move was made. Now, it does look sweet to have Titan rockets on the wingtips. So make an *optional* loadout that should be selectable in a mission editor... [TestFlight] Loadout[01].WeaponType= Loadout[01].Quantity=0 Loadout[02].WeaponType= Loadout[02].Quantity=0 Loadout[03].WeaponType=R-4R Loadout[03].Quantity=1 Loadout[04].WeaponType=R-4R Loadout[04].Quantity=1 Loadout[05].WeaponType=Tank1500_E152 Loadout[05].Quantity=1 [AirToAir] for use in the real life fictional production version. Did I just write that? [AirToAir] Loadout[01].WeaponType=R-4R Loadout[01].Quantity=1 Loadout[02].WeaponType=R-4R Loadout[02].Quantity=1 Loadout[03].WeaponType= Loadout[03].Quantity=0 Loadout[04].WeaponType= Loadout[04].Quantity=0 Loadout[05].WeaponType=Tank1500_E152 Loadout[05].Quantity=1 I'd say the 4 pylon setup you have in mind would have reduced max speed to less than Mach 2. Unless you give it 4 Atolls. The extra seat would ensure max speed is never reached because there never was enough fuel capacity even in the single seat aircraft. The plane was XtremE fuel limited.
  6. Get Jay Miller's Aerofax Series B-58. Its getting expensive, maybe 50 FRNs "used" now but worth it. That's gotta be the most deep end writing I've seen in an airplane book yet. Text is *very* small (a good thing) but easy dark bold simple font that don't distract. Its 150 pages which is thick for Aerofax Series (normally 128 pages).
  7. Fubar; interesting. What is your contrail philosophy here. In the video, the contrails are formed with discrete particles, at least for the first few seconds behind the exhaust. If you are having issues with the stock style contrails vanishing at certain viewing angles, that can be fixed by going BLEND_INV_SRC_ALPHA_ADD_SRC connected sprite. As a FREE bonus, the contrails then brighten up in the brightened sky effect near the SF sun, depending on how you set that up. The wingtip contrails seem to be connected sprites, so they are still in SF2. I'm still at SF 2006 ror.
  8. Added footnote: I just got Crowood Aviation's Blackburn Buccanneer by Kev Darling (he did Crowood's Vulcan too). Trekkie details. I'm learning which publishers and authors offer deep details, and those which publish/write pillow fluff. Darling is hardcore.
  9. It makes the sound of a bowl of flax. At midnight, the bad pun.
  10. Anti-flash white is my favorite colour.
  11. JediMaster:: Outside of government, its not an employer's market when employers are going out of business. The productive sector is closing up shop, business and labour together. Woolworths over in UK surprised me a bit, as it had survived the 1930s great depression but failed last year, or at least most stores closed so I heard.
  12. A US army platoon was marching... On the right-hand side was a British soldier... ~> http://www.stripes.com/02/nov02/mauldin/pages/_maul26.html
  13. ghostrider, you need to see Midland's Tu-95 hardback, in the Famous Russian Aircraft series by Yefim. That is HUGE, with Yefim's high technical density, and superb pics. Same with his titan MiG-21 hardback. Dump WarbirdTech. Go with Aerofax Series and Midland-RedStar. The *best* I've found yet is Jay Miller's B-58 AEROFAX. Its large for this series at 150 pages, and is the most detail dense book I've got yet, even surprassing Yefim's Aerofaxes and RedStars in raw density. Just got it and I'm stunned at the cruel, brutal text, in small tiny fine print, ALL of it about the B-58 weapons system and its deployment. Trekkie stuff. It may be out of print I dunno. It may be getting expensive so look into it fast. Also for Trekkie details, go Crowood hardbacks. I have Yefim's An-12 and Darling's Vulcan (and Bowman's E.E. Lightning softback). Fortunately, the Aerofax Valiant and Victor books are deep. Well they are Aerofax. But I chose the larger Crowood Vulcan book for the third bird. Also, Dennis Jenkins' heavy weight softbacks by Specialty Press rival the Trekkieness of Yefim. I have B-36, XB-70, and X-15 so far. Last is Fredricksen's new B-45 Tornado. Up front it seems soft on details, and is mostly operational history, but since that was limited to so few units, enough deep aircraft details worm their way into the operational details. But the early jets were like that. Flying to Moscow. Shucks B-47s never tried that. Add the following link for one additional crew story not as detailed in the book... ~> http://www.spyflight.co.uk/scul.htm Link found under Operations, Op Jiu Jitsu Even more Last is Suhler's new Rainbow to Gusto. I have not read it yet, but flipping pages it seems a strange stealth (or desperate attempts at stealth) tale from U-2 to SR-71 family. Large parts detail Convair Fish and Kingfish competitors. Tiny diagrams but http://www.up-ship.com/ is making new diagrams free for those who purchase the book. UpShip is working with the author on this.
  14. Very interesting. I'm staying SF-1 but, this sounds like a way to refuel/rearm on the ground, assuming you land safely. Edit another AI flight, or paste a flight in, taking off from same field, to Player, and set that flight to start at game run. Maybe even reduce the number of flight elements to match losses you noticed. May work best for long single missions only I'd guess. If it works at all. Would this be Correct Thinking?
  15. Air Force Legends seems to have published some sweet little books on the classics. XF-88 XF-91, XB-51, etc... Any opinions there? Reviews seem to indicate good information.
  16. For the last few yarns I've been meaning to get Haldeman's Forever Peace and this reminds me again. Rear echelon controls super-hi-tech robots to fight far away dirt poor nations. The reviews seem to indicate a weird cosmo big bang theme, so I may skip it. I don't do big bang (don't ask).
  17. Baltika, what areas of north Euro? The gaps can be chosen to be anywhere and come from the max 36 degree size blocks in 3DEM. For my experiments, I choose the gaps to start at the prime meridian by default. Notice in my first pic, south-east England is cut by a gap. If your map is small enough, it may be possible to either avoid gaps or have the gaps restricted to the east and west map edges, where any gap fixing won't be seen much.
  18. Fubar:: Orion... Yeah its NASA data. I always "meant" to ask if he'd send the data for me to fix, or find where the error is in the file and a correct value so he can fix it. I never got round to asking him. Not a big deal really. But it had to be THAT star lol.
  19. W:: Its correct as of Patch 2005/6 or something back then. czech it out , scroll down ~> http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=2257 However, TK never modelled the apparent rotation of the moon. In the pic, the SF Moon is "horizontal" -- so to speak. The true west/east limbs of the moon should be oriented more toward the vertical in that shot. But that's a rather small detail compared to correct moon phase and position for any date. TK Rules!
  20. Really thanks. Nice pics from the bomber pits. Another... The Russian Front 1941-1945 through the camera lens of German soldiers... ~~> http://www.user.dccnet.com/russianfront/mainpage.html
  21. czech the link for details, I tweaked Kesselbrut's pit a bit. If you like it, I'll look up the rotations and stuff I made.
  22. In AircraftObject.ini you can raise the LookAroundHeight value. This controls the change in view when you look around in the cockpit. This simulates pilot head movement or pilot lean which can shift your view inside the cockpit. Below, the F-106 is *exactly* on runway centerline, and I look left and this allows some view forward and I can see the white stripe on the runway directly in front of the plane. Its a challenge learning to fly like this, as it should be. I made the classical era junkpile above the radar by rotating the gunsight since I don't use it anyway in gunless early Darts. LookAroundHeight=0.08 below. Details here, scroll down half way ~> http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=4410&start=168
  23. Yea now that's the idea. Okay, how about targeting aircraft? One thing at a time I guess.
  24. Yea but they flew in there, and (I guess) flew out, so ... hehe. Flying carpet too.
  25. Jedi:: uh NOT. From John Fredriksen's The B-45 Tornado...my shortened words, NOT his... He quotes a paragraph by Lt. Neil (47th BW). He was forced to land his B-45 unannounced at Randolph AFB, and they were welcomed with jeep escort which directed his bomber to taxi to base ops where a line of blue suits and red carpet was laid out just for them. The B-45 crew were met *inside* their airplane door and congratulated. According to Neil, the whole base thought it was their first B-57 delivery, but apparently they beat the B-57 a bit early. "They didn't even know what a B-45 was -- none of them." (also describes combat flight simmers, and The Sims developers too ) So there was this like total UFO just sitting there on red carpet, right in front of base operations. Also the best reason I've seen yet never to claim civilians are "ignorant" hehe.
