    2. SPAD 16

The SPAD 16 was essentially a SPAD 11 with a more powerful Lorraine-Dietrich 240 hp engine. Although it was faster, the heavier engine made the SPAD 16 harder to handle and performance was slightly worse than the SPAD 11. Like the SPAD 11, it was armed with a forward firing Vickers gun and a Lewis gun on a ring mount for the observer. It could also carry a small bomb load under the wings.

The SPAD 16 entered service early in 1918. Several French squadrons were equipped with the SPAD 16 and a few were purchased by the US. It continued in service until the end of the war.

I have made two skins for the SPAD 16 - a French camo, and a USAS camo - each with appropriate squadron insignia. Most of the skins are identical to the SPAD 11 skins, only the Fuselage and Upper Right Wing skins are changed. My skinning templates are included in the download for those who want to make their own skins.

I did not have a sound file for the Lorraine-Dietrich engine, so I used the same sound as the SPAD 11.

      Credits
Thanks to Ojcar for making the data file for the SPAD 16.
Thanks also to Nix for making the sound file for the Hispano-Suiza engine.

      Installation Instructions
For FE1 - Unzip the file and move the folder named "SPAD16" into the FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. If you don't already have it installed, you also need to move the sound file "hispsuiz4M220.wav" into the FirstEagles/Sounds folder.

For FE2 - Unzip the file and move the folder named "SPAD16" into the FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. Then in the FirstEagles/Objects/Decals folder, create new folder named "SPAD16". Move the folder named "D" from the Aircraft/SPAD16 folder into the Decals/SPAD16 folder you just made. If you don't already have it installed, you also need to move the sound file "hispsuiz4M220.wav" into the FirstEagles/Sounds folder.

    3. Anti-Slip FM for SE5a

Alternative FM for the default SE5a
      07/30/07 by ShrikeHawk

I love flying the SE5a in a dogfight. So nimble and quick!
But...in slow-speed maneuvers and actions that require good
rudder control (i.e., landing, strafing) the plane is waaaayy
too squirrely. After rudder input the plane oscillates terribly
and it's very hard to keep the gunsight on target. Also, on
landing, the slideslip is extreme! The plane does not sink to
the ground as it should even when the engine is a 0%. At least
      this is my experience.

So after endless tinkering, I finally have the SE5a flying the
way I expect it to. Now the plane lands much as the other
aircraft do. The landing requires more area but it is reasonable
now. It still responds a lot to yaw input, although moderately,
but will not oscillate at all after counter rudder input.
You can actually hold the gunsight on target with minimal effort.

This mod addresses other concerns than what peter01 is doing with
his alternative FMs. But when he posts it, I would highly
recommend using his FM. If you want to use this mod "and" peter01's
at the same time, please PM me and I will post a combination.

p.s. Thanks to Peter01 for the tip about the cnb parameter. That was
the last bit of info I was looking for.

Welcome WWI buffs! This is a new series of campaings, covering the air war over Palestine Front in WWI
The entire war is divided in mini-campaigns of a month-10 missions. I'm using the fantastic Palestine map. You'll have about 20 mini-campaigns and 200 missions per pilot!
You'll fly as British, Australian, German or Ottoman pilot.
This series is made for FE2, but you also have a FE1 version.

    6. Albatros W.4 (Early)

The Albatros W.4 was a float plane version of the D.II. It used the same fuselage, engine, and armament as the D.II, but had a wider wingspan and tail. The W.4 was used for recon and spotting missions in the North Sea, the Baltic, and by Austria-Hungary in the Adriatic Sea.

I have made an early version of the W.4 with the radiators mounted on the sides of the fuselage. I have included a complete set of number decals, and three skins - a basic wood and linen skin for Germany, one for Austria-Hungary, and an early hex camo skin. I have also included my skinning templates. The skins for the early Albatros W.4 are interchangeable with the late version skins.

My version includes a loadout for a light bomb load, even though the W.4 was not used for bombing. You can delete the loadout file if you want more historical accuracy.

Since it's a float plane, the W.4 works best in the Flanders, Gibraltar or other terrain that has a lot of water. The plane will actually take off and land from a conventional airfield, but it looks strange to see the floats going under the ground. It would be best to start the missions in the air. The plane will show up occasionally parked on an airfield, but its availability is listed as "Rare" so it shouldn't happen too often.

      Credits
Thanks to Ojcar for making the data file for the Albatros W.4.
Thanks to Nix for providing the sound for the Mercedes engine.

    8. First Eagles: Hitting the Zeppelins (Avro)

      Hitting the Zeppelins (Avro 504D)

Requires Flanders terrain from Combat Ace and Bortdafarm's Avro 504D, Fokker EIII and Fokker DII, all available from http://www.ebort2.co.uk/FE.html. Just drop into the Missions folder of First Eagles.

This mission allows a flight of Avro's to take off from St Pol, attack a Zeppelin base near Zeebrugge and return home. Enemy fighters may or may not appear. I have deliberately kept it simple because when tested, it worked.

    9. Richthofen's Final Two Victories

A mission for First Eagles + Expansion Pack 1 + Nov 08 patch.

UPDATED 22/11/08: This mission has been amended to include the excellent authentic Jasta
11 colour schemes created by Quack74 (See 'Mission requirements' below).

Bucky's Quick Mission No.7: 'Richthofen's Final Two Victories'.

Released 20/4/08. The 90th anniversary of the action depicted in this mission.

      ============================================================

      Introduction:

There is no question that Manfred Von Richthofen is THE most famous fighter pilot of all time.
In fact, there's a strong case for saying he's the best known soldier of any war in history, let
alone WW1. He's been, (and will continue to be) the subject of countless books, journalistic
articles and TV documentaries. Indeed, at the time of writing, a new movie; 'The Red Baron',
has just been released in Germany. The lasting interest and fascination with all aspects of his
      short life is truly extraordinary.

I created this mission, a re-enactment of an actual aerial combat that took place at
approximately 18:40, on Saturday, 20th April, 1918, to commemorate the 90th anniversary
      of Richthofen's death.

Flying his famous red Fokker Dr.I Triplane, serial number 425/17, this was to be the Baron's
penultimate patrol and air combat, during which he achieved his 79th and 80th victories.

This is how Richthofen described the action in his combat report:

"With six planes of Jasta 11, I attacked large enemy squadron. During the fight I observed
that a Triplane was attacked and shot at from below by a Camel. I put myself behind the
adversary and brought him down, burning, with only a few shots. The enemy plane crashed
down near the forest of Hamel where it burned on the ground.
Three minutes after I had brought down the first machine, I attacked a second Camel of the
same enemy squadron. The adversary dived, caught his machine and repeated the
manoeuvre several times. I approached him as near as possible when fighting and fired 50
bullets until the machine began to burn. The body of the machine was burned in the air, the
remnants dashed to the ground, north-east of Villers Bretonneux."

His unfortunate victims that day were; Major Richard Raymond-Barker, who was killed, and
2nd Lt David Greswolde Lewis, who amazingly survived the crash of his burning Camel, and
      was taken prisoner.

Less than 24 hours after this combat, Richthofen was dead. Killed by a single .303 bullet (but
that's another long story!). He was just 25 years old.

      ============================================================

      To set the scene:

At this time Jasta 11 were based at Cappy airfield, about 20 miles east of Amiens. Richthofen
was experiencing a lean period (mainly due to bad weather), having gained no victories
between 7th-19th April...the weather during that day had been very cloudy, but by the early
evening it was generally clear, allowing the Rittmeister and five other pilots of Jasta 11 to
set off for the early evening patrol.
Airborne at about the same time, and equally keen for a fight were the Sopwith Camels of
      3 sqn, RAF...

      ============================================================

      Mission guidlines:

When the mission starts you'll be at a little over 6,000 ft (1500m). Initially, you should keep
to a heading of around 250 degrees, flying south-west. Keep formation with your five
wingmen. Looking below and to your right, you'll see the winding Somme river as you pass
over Cerisy, heading toward Villers Bretonneux. To your left you'll see the old Roman road
that stretches from Amiens to St Quentin. Perfect navigational aids should you become
      disorientated.

Richthofen shot down the two Camels within three minutes of eachother. Indeed, the two
machines crashed to earth just 50 yards apart. Maybe you can do better?

      ============================================================

      Compromises and game limitations:

      1. During the spring of 1918 the German offensive had pushed the allies back much further
than the actual front line depicted in the game. Also, the Flanders map is very sparsely
populated around the Villers Bretonneux area where this combat actually took place.
However, although some towns and villages are missing, The action happens in the correct
      general area.

      2. FE won't allow multiple 'named wingmen' in the players flight. This means the game will
recognise only the players plane. consequently, there will be no record of your wingmen's
actions in the 'stats' screen at end of mission. It also means you can't issue orders via the
      'tab' button.
The good news is; this doesn't stop your wingmen from participating in the action.

      3. Manfred's brother Lothar, (40 victories) was not involved in the action depicted in this
mission. He was still in hospital and extremely lucky to still be alive after being shot down in
his yellow and red Fokker Triplane on 13th March. It's a nice Jasta 11colour scheme which is
included with the expansion pack, so I've used it anyway...We'll assume that he had another
Dr.I painted the same way, and that another pilot was using it on 20th April!

      ============================================================

      Mission requirements:

To fly this mission as intended, you'll need the following mods and skins:

      Flanders terrain.
      By Edward.
To be found in the Combat Ace, Downloads, 'Maps/Terrains' section.

The following Jasta 11 Fokker Dr.I skins:
      All created by Quack74.
To be found in the Combat Ace, Downloads, 'Skins', 'WW1', section.
      MvR Last plane.
      J11 Blue Tail.
      Richard Wenzl.
      Werner Steinhauser.
      Edgar Scholtz.

Many thanks to the above artists for their most excellent contributions to this great game.

Although not essential, for extra realism and immersion I would recommend the following
mods, available from the Combat Ace, Downloads site:

      'Thicker, Fuller Clouds'.
      By ShrikeHawk.
      Found in: 'Maps/Terrains'. 'Environmental Mods'.
Excellent mod that greatly improves the "cotton wool ball" clouds effect.

      'FE Sounds'.
      By yours truly.
      Found in: 'Sound Mods'.
I've updated this mod with a louder "bullet hit" sample, designed to make you jump when
      your plane gets hit!

For maximum realism I would also recommend that this mission be played with all gameplay
      settings set to 'Hard'.

      ============================================================

      Installation instructions:

Install the mission by unzipping the downloaded file to the following path:
      C:/Program Files/Thirdwire/WW1/Missions

Alternatively, you can drag and drop the unzipped MSN file directly into your 'Missions' folder.

      ============================================================

I hope you enjoy flying this mission and find it both challenging and enjoyable enough to play
it more than once. I've tried to make it as historically accurate and authentic as the game will
      allow.
Feel free to change any of the parameters as you wish.

I would welcome any suggestions or general feedback, good, bad or indifferent, via any one
      of the FE forums.

      Viel Glueck!

      Bucky. 20/4/08.

    11. Phönix D.IIa

The Phönix D.IIa was the same as the D.II but with a more powerful 230 hp Hiero engine, which gave it better speed and better climbing ability.

My model of the D.IIa is based on my model of the D.II but with a different engine - which means all new .LOD files as well as a new cockpit (the engine is part of the cockpit in this model.) I have made a slightly different skin, new decals, and ojcar has made a different FM, so this is a completely new plane. (You do NOT need the D.II in order to install this plane.)

The skins and decals are interchangeable with the D.II.

I have included a set of letter decals so you can set flight letters in the Loadout screen, or the game will randomly assign a different letter to each plane.

The skinning templates are identical to the D.II, but I have included them here anyway. I have also included my .OUT files for the benefit of future modders.

      Credits
My thanks to ojcar, who created the FM to capture the improved power and performance of this excellent Austro-Hungarian fighter.

      Installation instructions:
For FE1: Unzip the file and move the folder named "PhoenixD2a" into the FirstEagles/Objects/Airplanes folder.

For FE2: Unzip the file and move the folder named "PhoenixD2a" into the FirstEagles/Objects/Airplanes folder. Then in the FirstEagles/Objects/Decals folder, create a new folder named "PhoenixD2a". Move the folder named "D" from the Airplanes/PhoenixD2a folder into the Decals/PhoenixD2a folder you just made.

    13. Fokker D.VII PaintScheme - Jasta 4 - Ernst Udet

      Read before install:

This installation will overwrite your "loading screen" and your "FokkerD7.ini" files in the Fokker D.VII folder (drive:\First Eagles install directory\Objects\Aircraft\FokkerD7). Backup these files if you want.

Browse to the main Folder of "First Eagles", select it, click "ok" then "next".

Will be created a new folder called "Jasta4Udet" with the paintscheme used by Ernst Udet in Jasta 4 (Du doch nicht!!). You can select this skin in the "Loadout" screen. Enjoy!

Skin created by "Killer-Ants" (Jambock__36), based on templates and existing paintschemes provided by Thirdwire and profiles by R. N. Pearson.

    14. Vogesen2

      Vogesen – Version 2

This is a complete revision of Gepard's Vogesen terrain uploaded in 2008. Add it to your Western Front install of First Eagles.

NOTE – I have changed the terrain so much that Ojcar's Armchair Aces Vogesen Campaigns no longer work. I have named the new terrain “Vogesen2” so it will not replace Gepard's original terrain and you can still fly Ojcar's campaigns in the old map.

The Vogesen Mountains are between the Alsace Valley and Lorraine Plateau, just north of Switzerland. Both Germany and France had held the territory at one time or another over the centuries. At the beginning of World War I the area was part of Germany. France set out to “liberate” the area and there was heavy fighting there during the first year of the war. After that, things settled down somewhat – there was still fighting, but no major offensives were launched until the end of WWI.

My version of Vogesen is heavily based on Gepard's original terrain – the height map, tiles, and all the locations in the Alsace and Rhein valleys are virtually unchanged, I only made minor adjustments to what was already there. I have added at lot of locations to the west and north to fill the Lorraine area of the terrain and made extensive changes to the tiles there. I have completely reworked the targets.ini and types.ini to bring many of the new ground objects into the terrain. I leveled all the airfields, changed the trench lines through the mountains, and modified many of the skins.

      Credits
Gepard deserves a lot of credit for all the work he did creating the original terrain. His castles, bunkers, and other “eye-candy” objects are still in the terrain.
Many of the locations added by Ojcar are still in the map, although I renamed some of them, and made minor adjustments to their locations.
Many of Geezer's ground objects are included with the download – including some of his ground crew, airfield objects, bunkers and forts.
I have included the ambulances with this downlaod, but I don't know who made them. If anybody remembers who made the original ambulances, please let me know.
Gerwin's TFD Tool was instrumental in the making of this terrain.

      Installation
The Targets.ini requires that some Ground Objects be installed. You may already have these, if not you will need to install them in the Western Front install of your game.

    16. Albatros C.III 766/16 Bohme/Lademacher

The Bohme/Lademacher Dragodiles The markings, logos, and numerals are those that appeared on the Alb C.III flown by Lt. Erwin Bohme and his observer Fritz Lademacher. The evidence available (three photos and the text of a letter from Bohme to his girlfriend) strongly indicate that the Dragodiles were white.

When I started this project I thought that the beasts might have been a light green or yellow-green.
It took some time to get it, but after I read the Bohme letter describing the images as “”ghosts” I decided they really were white.

That is why the default is the ghostly white.

I still included the less authentic, but more colorful greenies.

If you prefer the more colorful version, simply delete (or rename) the Decals file, and then copy and rename the"Decals Green Dragodiles" to "Decals".
Both decal sets are in the folder and should be left there. The green and yellow/green beasts should now appear. If you want to switch back, reverse the process. (That's why you didn't dump the original file!)

      The Wood and Linen Alternative
This skin set uses the original decals provided by Stephen1918 that generate a varied set of markings derived from original German units and numerals.
None of the part numbers on the struts, elevators, wings, etc. are adjusted. Please back up your original “Wood and Linen files before using these as they will overwrite the originals. The logo on the prop is the earliest version of the Axial logo. Loading, Loadout and Hangar Screens. The loading and hangar screens are in the main file set along with the skins.

The loadout screen is in the Menu folder, and will replace the stock loadout screen for all aircraft. If you prefer the original, just delete it. Thanks to Stephen 1918 for a great model!

All files are set up for use in FE2.
If you need help getting this package to run in FE1, let me know.

    18. Josef Jacobs 3-Pack Dr.1's

This is a skin pack of three more color schemes used by Josef Carl Jacobs of Jasta 7.

Fokker Dr.1 450/17 - Early with "Winged Devil" and Iron Crosses pre April 1918.
Fokker Dr.1 450/17 - Late all black with Baulkencruez crosses only mid summer 1918.
Fokker Dr.1 470/17 - Late style with all white crosses and black fuselage and wings mid summer 1918.

the numbers and the color schemes might be reversed. But no solid evidence exsists to prove otherwise.

A lot more in the readme file.

      Enjoy, quack74

    20. Fokker D7 - Franz Buchner

This is Franz Buchner's Fokker D7. Ltn. Franz Buchner had at leaste 40 kills for Germany. He was also one of the few pilots to bail out of an aircraft during WWI. There is some argument about the exact color scheme, so I combined a few. Enjoy!

feel free to fart about with the bits n bobs

this is the re-engined version with extended ailerons
I found half a dozen different versions of this aircraft all described as the DIII
most don't fit the statistical descriptions ..but the photos show the extended ailerons larger wheels,
and the engine with a side mounted exhaust sytem running back along the side of the fuselage
and the DII centre section strut configuration with an additional set sloping forward over the engine bay etc...
so here it is....marginally faster and marginally better aileron response..

      fm- player version (hard)

this version comes with a shadow file

    22. Schneider CA1

The Schneider CA1 was the first French built tank and was used for the first time in April, 1917. Only about 400 were built but they played an important role on the Western Front in late 1917 and early 1918. The Schneider had a short barreled 75mm gun in a turret on the front-right, and two Hotchkiss machine guns in turrets on the sides.

The tank was delivered from the factory painted grey, but a variety of camo schemes were applied in the field. My version includes both a standard grey and a four color camo skin. (You will need to change the ini file in order to change skins - open the ini file and change the TextureSet numbers to make the desired skin number 1.)

In First Eagles, the Schneider takes the role of a tank, drop it into your ground object folder and First Eagles will randomly assign it to some of your Army Co-operation missions.

      Installation Instructions

Unzip the file and open my folder named "GroundObject". Copy the folder named "SchneiderCA" to your FirstEagles/Objects/GroundObject folder. The Schneider uses the same skin for damage as my armored cars. If you have already installed any of my armored cars, you may already have the file. If not, copy the file named "DestroyedArmoredCar.bmp" into your GroundObject folder. Note that the "DestroyedArmoredCar.bmp" file should not be inside any other folder.

    23. Smoke effects

This is a small effects pack to give First Eagles more intersting and longer lasting
smoke from damaged aircraft. The effects 'fill in' entries left empty in the release version
      of the game.

To install, extract the files into your \Effects folder.

A quick thank you to Deuces for pointing me in the right direction on making these.

      Have fun.

    25. FE1 & FE2 FMs BristolM1C- FE8-FokD8-Schuckert

FMs for either FE1 or FE2.

I knew I had these somewhere, and found them on a backup drive. They were done last December. Just refined, tweaked and tested them a bit, and ... they are ready to fly.

New FMs for the Bristol M1C, Fe8, Fokker D8, Schuckert D3.

The Bristol M1C is very nice, has a new gun, and is equal in capability to my Albatros D3.

The FE8 has a couple of issues - on takeoff, stalls - but still nice, and in capability about the equal to my Halberstadt D3.

The Fokker D8 is the nicest FM I have done for this plane, it is very capable, about the equal to my Camels. Snipes vs Fokker D8s are fun.

The Schuckert D3 is a little less capable than the Fokker D8.

      IMPORTANT
      =========

For FE1 you must have installed the FE1 game files from "108 FE1 and/or FE2 FMs March 2010" in the Flight Models download section here. 108 FE1 and/or FE2 FMs March 2010

For FE2 you must have installed the FE2 game files "REALLY FIXED FE2 Game Files and 4 FE2 FMs 2010" in the Flight Models download section here. REALLY FIXED FE2 Game Files and 4 FE2 FMs 2010

      INSTALLATION
      ============

      1) I recommend you backup the folders of the above aircraft before installing.

      2) Place all the files from this download into the corresponding aircraft directories.

      Have fun.
