website so slow

The datacenter is spinning up some new machines for us. It's going to take some time to backup all our data and move it. I'll update as I know more.

I'll have something to contribute to the site in a few days; just waiting for the transfer. It won't be as much as I'd like, but it'll be something. Probably just a drop in the bucket, but it'll make me feel better.

Wish I could say it's been fun but this has literally been hell, sleep has not been a thing and I'm way too old to relive my twenties. We are now re-deployed and running modern code on some healthy and rather obnoxious LAMP boxes. Our database took three days of almost around the clock beating into submission to get us moved and latest versioned to our new home. I sort of deserved that and knew it was coming, I put it off way to long. We're not 100% yet but we're close, 90% and counting. I'm doing one final integrity check before I jettison the old baggage that sustained us for almost 10 years and set us off into the blue skies. The files are all moving over in the background and the 5G of girth that we call our DB is safe and restructured to run InnoDB instead of the old slow MYISAM.

Before you guys start sending me lots of emails about subscriptions here's what I'm going to do. If you have a subscription or had one and it expired during the move I will reactivate the ones that need it and extend the others so all your time is accounted for and I will base that on when the files go back live again. I apologize in advance for the long days of downtime and looking at that crappy offline page but there was no way to keep our data safe without making sure it wasn't being populated as it was being converted. That's the equivalent of changing a tire on a moving vehicle, probably a good time but not something I wanted to do.

While you're here, Welcome! The new place has some pretty cool new features and it's smoking fast. If you tell me it's slow I'm deleting your account and forgetting I knew you. Get used to the new place and make it fast because when I've recovered we're moving to an even newer code base but that won't incur any downtime. If you see things that are missing like images or things that don't work or look right make a post about it in the support section and I'll get to them as I can. The theme set is a quick and dirty reconstruction to give us some resemblance of what was here but that's going to change too and hopefully give us a couple of options for light vs dark skins to save my eyes.

If you need me I'll be around somewhere, maybe, possibly, probably not.
