WIP: Libya Campaign 1986

I told USAFMTL a couple of months ago that I was going to dip my toes into in the modding kiddie pool, something simple. This is largely an attempt to redeem myself to a community that felt slightly wounded in my description of modding as 'practicing bleeding' in my review of Wings Over Israel at SimHQ.

 

He's probably wondering where the hell I've been.

 

Well, you can thank the Texas public education system because I was responsible for prepping all the kids in my district (about 100 of them) for the state's performance exam in science, it basically lets us know if the little twerps have been paying attention all year. They didn't.

 

Anyway, I'm back and now that summer's here, I can get some stuff done. These are some work in progress shots of the campaign.

I know I should have asked you about a Libyan Fishbed!!! That was gonna be another probject, but finding serial numbers is a beeeaytch!!

I like the guy leaning on the wing "Take my picture, already!!!"

 

That green sure is green, ain't it???

The terrain's the easiest part. I've found if you're flying off carriers, you better have external tanks, the distances from Alpha and Bravo Stations are insane.

 

I've got some things I'm trying to work through, though and maybe ya'll can help.

 

I've got the F-1C in the campaign and the Greeks and the Libyans both have them. The campaign engine will arm the Greek aircraft. The Libyan F-1C's have empty wings, no matter what I've done.

 

I can get the Foxbat to have R-40s on the wings in Single Mission. In the campaign, they only have R-23Rs and the tiny little R-60s. I have seen photographs of a Libyan Foxbat armed with R-40s, so I know they had em'.

 

The last one is wierd. I was on a mission and I noticed that the campaign engine spawned two A-10s in Libyan livery, but they were unarmed. I think it was an Armed Recon mission they might have been on. Anyone know how to stop that? I've also seen a USAF F-1C on a FAC mission, so toss that in for good measure.

 

Ideas, thoughts?

Not sure about the first two; are the F-1Cs using NATO weapons? Might want to check the weapon attachments... are you using two birds for the different countries?

 

For the Foxbats... check if you have sufficient supplies of the missiles under the aircraft unit entry in the campaign_data.ini

 

As for the A-10s; if they were unarmed it was probably a transport mission... under the 2 sides' data at the top, you either want to change the TRANSPORTTYPE= to a specific aircraft or edit the A-10_data.ini to not include transport. Might be same for F-1C.

I fixed the Mirage problem. I dropped them from the Libyan inventory (the Libyans only had 20 of them anyway, and they were unserviceable after about a year) and replaced it with the Albatros. Anyone know of a Soko Jastreb anywhere?

I was gonna say that I have the fix for your Mirage F.1 missile problem; I'd put them back in. Creates confusion, if you know what I mean.

 

We're also going under the assumption that you've created a nation-specific Libyan F.1C

You'll obvious change the service dates, and -most important- the AttachmentType= to WP

 

To the missiles; I can almost bet you made the most common mistake in loadouts: You Cannot Load Friendly Weapons On An Enemy Aircraft.

 

So what you'd need to do,-and this is the best option- is create a Libyan nation-specific version of the Magic's carried or;

use the Iraqi versions already in the BunyPak -- they already exist, and are set for WP, but the dates may be off.

 

As to the HAF F.1C, I've created a nations specific version, with the correct loadouts. I can post them, if you want.

 

As to the LARAF Foxbat, I'd reccomend getting the one I just released, and taking a look at the notes sections, and the 'adding weapons text'. I know what the problem is with the missiles, and fixed it. :wink:

Hunh. I tried the Libyan Foxbat and got the same thing. I'll go back and look at it again.

 

Next, which weapons pack is a better standard? Buny's or TMF?

Right now, there are no plans to make the Libyan side playable...for now.

The attachment types allows use in either the Bunyap Pak or TMFs.

 

You'll have to do a little editing in the decals ini, replacing the F-1C with F-1CG for all those entires. Takes about 2 seconds with find/replace.

 

The only problem I see with the LARAF F.1C or F.1ED, is we don't have the proper 3-tone camo skin for it. I have the templaes, but haven't spend any time fiddling with adding the different colors. I can fix the weapons in like 30 minutes! That ain't nothing...a few simple edits, and we have nationalized Libyan missiles and bombs and mers. Fuel tanks will need repainting, or the best cheat is to use the existing desert tan units. --btw, this 3-tone skin issuse also relates back to RJAF F-1's too...just have to figure out the mapping.

 

As to which weapons pak to use, it's totally up to the player; you give the needed data, adjusted aircraft inis, and let them add the weapons on their own.

OK, I segregated the F-1s into two files and it works now, but it wants to use Soviet hardware, not French. I have it set to use IRAQ hardware from Bun's WP.

 

Now, the Foxbats are still giving me fits. They want to use Apex-C's even if the loudout.ini doesn't have them anywhere near it.

 

And to the other questioners, there are two carrier battle groups with a mix of Cats', Hornets, Intruders, and SLUFs. Also there is one Navy Amphib ship with a Harrier unit on board.
