DaniloE31 Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 (edited) Sometimes there are some missions, you just can't be satisfied how they go on, so you just keep playing them again ang again... So it was for me with this single mission from the Mission Generator (WoV). 4 F-4J flying escort for 8 RF-101C striking Vinh airfield with their MK-28EX The first time the bomber were ambushed, had to jettison their ordnance, and one Voodoo was even shoot down. The second attempt my wingman was shoot down after I set 4 'winders in some 4 MiG-21 tails... aaahg! OK... now HAD to be perfect (last famous words...). We had to defy 8 MiG-21 Fishbed-E and 2 Fishbed-F (sorry... I'm a cold war guy... only NATO codes known here... :wink2: ) Now I knew the Interceptor's path, so I set my course to catch them from their 6-o-clock. We pushed our attack just as they begun firing atolls to the Voodoos. We got many of them, the other just broke the attack off, as the Fishbed-E has no Gun and just 2 Atolls... The Voodoos: "bombs away!"... ... Kah-boooom... When the nuclear flash was over and I could see again, my wingman kept fleeing: "get him off me!... Someone get HIM OFF ME!". A Fishbed pusuing him and he could not get rid of him. "Now you won't spoil my mission results by downing my No.2!!!". I went in full 'burner after them, but could barely catch them up. I can't believe I could barely do more than 600kts, but that SUU-23 pod drags like a chute!!! And I had no more Sparrow for a long range shot :nea: At 4 miles range my AIM-9H gave a good tone, so I tried a desperate shot, just to get him break the attack. The missile flew and flew and flew... no joy. Next attempt at 3.5mls... same. At ca. 2.8mls my last Sidewinder: guided nice toward the target, then NVAF pilot did a little roll, the missile dropped a bit and flew right into the Phantom's tail... OK... the wingman was yet still flying , so it looked like I got a new chance... and they begun now a dogfight, so they finally went subsonic and I could catch up a bit. At 0.5mls range he was already blasting his 23mm gun, with me behind him erratic firing away my vulcan... but adrenaline is no helper in aiming your gun (ok ok... this time I was a real bad gunner... ). So it ended with my Wingman hit and shot down in flames, and the MiG escaping to the deck. Hallelujah... With 350lbs fuel left I said to me "I'll get you, even if it costs me my last drop of fuel!" (mission was rather screwed up...) But this guy could really fly his Fishbed. Everytime I went on his tail, he did an Immelman and flew away the opposite direction. The third time I tried a Barrel Roll in response, but it ended with him at my 8 o-clock going after me (what a bad fighter pilot I am... ). Now it was no time to try to turn into him, I unloaded and went toward the deck accelerating at full military. But after a few seconds he broke his attack off, and headed to the base. "He must be BINGO now!!!" With a 9G turn in full AB I was soon again in his dead 6 o-clock, and finally had the easiest gun kill after the longest engagement ever... When he was going down my fuel gauge said 7lbs left... I had an emergency landing near Quon Lung, and went home by feet Danilo Sorry for the long text... Edited December 12, 2009 by DaniloE31 Quote

EricJ Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 (edited) Phantom FGR.5 of No.41 squadron Gotta love the RAZBAM Korean Winter! I was considering that... is it good for modern setups? Or is it just a Korean War style setup, not really much going on there? ------------------------------------------------------ "What took you so long?" Spinners Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 I was considering that... is it good for modern setups? Or is it just a Korean War style setup, not really much going on there? It is a bit quiet in there but my install is almost vanilla since switching to W7 - perhaps I need more ground objects Quote
EricJ Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 That's what I thought... I downloaded the "Summer" version and felt the same. Too bad Wrench is being an old geezer and not completing his one he posted last year, or earlier this year... Quote
