Gepard's Formosa Strait visual update

This mod is full two-seasons (wet, dry) tileset and treemod created for Gepard's "Formosa Strait" terrain.

You need Gepard's Formosa terrain available here:

http://combatace.com/files/file/6723-formosa-strait-terrain-version-10

The tiles are 512x512 resolution to maintain good performance on older systems, but as they were downsampled from their 1024x1024 originals, maintain good quality.

This mod includes it's own, smoother terrain height data, but original rough version is also provided as an option.

Also includes new TFD file, which introduces "large empty fields" in western Taiwan.

Both smaller and bigger trees included, the latter as default for rich lush ground cover.

Includes optional tweak for experimental clear day fog.

Hi, the terrain does not show up in selection screen for sf2 merged.. is there a fix? thx.

Strange, as I have it working in merged install..?

Dsawan, you did installed Gepard's Formosa terrain before adding this mod, right?

Posted

Working fine here in a merged install. Are you sure dsawan you are using the right exe to start the sim? The one you put the terrain in? Also did you put it in a folder called "terrains" with an "s" on the end?

Posted

dsawan make sure you extract this to main mod folder, as it comes with terrains folder for ease of install

Hi , I checked my folder and it is in terrains with an s and under objects folder. Maybe I should move it to the main folder isntead of objects.

Ah sorry I forgot, I use it in SF2 merged, if you like I can take a picture, I can see them trough clouds, but not all, seems only specific trees and they seem to be "bi transparent" You can see them but also see the next tree trough the first, as example when you are sitting on the runway and looking around

How can I solve that you can see the trees trough the clouds?! Is it the alpha layer?

You can't its a bug. TK knows about it though. eburger68 has the same problem with the Vietnam terrain.

Thanks Stary and Dave, it`s a longer time I was into SF2, I reset it and was wondering about the all seeing Eye effect I thought it was something with the Alpha layer. Ok I can life with it..

So far Stary, excelent work!!!!!

Yes, an old bug TK seems not to care. There was fix by Fubar IIRC, posted somewhere.

But using the settings I provided with the data, you really shouldn't see the trees through clouds? Forgot to ask -DX9 or 10?

I searched for the mentioned fix, but no luck so far.

Try "mipmaplevel=6" added under [AlphaObjectTextureMaterial], but I really don't remember if it was it, ONLY for DX9 systems:

[AlphaObjectTextureMaterial]

EffectShaderName=terAlphaObject.fx

DepthBufferCheck=TRUE

DepthBufferWrite=FALSE

RenderedInOrder=TRUE

AlphaTestEnabled=TRUE

CullMode=NO_CULL <-try setting to CullMode=CLOCKWISE

LightEnabled=TRUE

SpecularEnabled=FALSE

EmissiveEnabled=FALSE

FogEnabled=TRUE

AmbientColor=1.000000,1.000000,1.000000,1.000000

DiffuseColor=1.000000,1.000000,1.000000,1.000000

ZBufferOffset=2.000000

BlendOp=BLEND_SRC_ALPHA

NumTextureStages=1

TextureStage[01].TextureName=

TextureStage[01].MipMap=TRUE

TextureStage[01].FilterEnabled=FALSE

TextureStage[01].StageColorOp=TEXTURE_MODULATE_DIFFUSE

TextureStage[01].StageAlphaOp=TEXTURE_BLEND_TEXTURE_ALPHA

Mipmaplevel=6

formosa strait is my favorite one..

high FPS, lot of mountains to hide behind, stunning sea, never boring single missions.

thanks for the update!

Stary,

Way over-due to thank you. EXCELLENT! update to Gepards Terrain. Thanks to all that was involved.
