My impression is, that the recent Photoshop acts strange sometimes. I am working with layer functions and recently it occured, that I deleted lines from a layer with a function and the effect was still there, although the actual line was deleted. Another issue was with transformations, where PS does not always use the actual border of something on a layer like previous versions. Instead it select some additional empty space around it on random sides.

There are more examples, where PS is either buggy or it was changed from the well known behavior of older versions...I am not sure which is it actually.

Are you using guide lines in Photoshop? They are common use with templates, they usually have a cyan colour. If you export a texture file in .jpg format or anything else, guide lines are still kept as info! They are not needed and only increase overall size, and might be the issue behind what you're dealing with. I've seen tons of skins with guide lines into them and that's a bad practice; they are not visible in-game or in a simple image viewer, but reopen them with Photoshop and guide lines are there as if they were in the template. Always double check and remove them.

I'm interested. Do you have a source for the info, that they might cause problems, although they are invisble on a picture itself?

As for the size-increase I was intrigued...I have run some tests (1 guideline, 10 lines, 30 lines, horizontal/vertical) and the actual size of 1 guideline is 5 bytes. I guess with todays HDDs this is manageable.

Bad practice? Yeah, maybe. They can be removed before exporting probably. But in the end most people won't ever notice their existence... Proper naming of layers on the other hand, is a thing, at least for me.

@Nyghtfall I saw you reacted with a "confused" emoji to my previous post. If it's not clear, I'll try to explain it better. Just open with Photoshop any .jpg skins you've released in the past, you'll see that guide lines are still there in some of them. They are of no use in a skin that is meant to be final, they just increase file size for nothing.

I took a look lately and you are correct. These things are in my skins. Actually I never noticed, that they are still in a jpg. I though PS removes such tings. So I stand corrected. :salute:

But...it changes nothing except a few bytes, if I'd removed them for the cost of a lot of time for all skins I've done. So feel free to not use my stuff, if you don't like such bad practice. I won't spent hours and days to remove guidelines for you. Sorry for that!

I don't like things also...for example changing my well-thought stuff to something not so well-thought. But each his own.

I just speculated without any clue that they might be behind the issue Flogger23 explained; he confirmed they are not related.

I totally agree about being ordered with layer names, that's what I do as well. You're misunderstanding my remark about bad practice; it's not a problem if those .jpg skins weigh more on the HDD, but it's a problem the moment SF2 takes longer to load countless custom .jpg skins for dozens of custom 3d models, especially on older PCs and hardware. So, any optimizations on this end should be taken into account IMHO. The same issue about loading times is clearly represented by the resolution used for specular maps; if those are saved as 4K (excessively), a mid-end system takes much longer to load a simple mission with the affected aircraft.

Yeah I tried it too and PS saves the guide with the JPG. you still can move it around and such, but if it doesn't appear on the final product then I won't worry about it either. I mean you just see them with PS and that's it, so no harm done.

I'm sorry you got offended and show such hostile attitude, that was not the point of my post. I don't recall I explicitly asked you to spend hours to remove those guidelines. I just wanted to tell the community about this oddity with .jpg and Photoshop. Up to you to consider removing them before exporting or not. If you do not, no problem, I can do it (and already did) on my own. Peace, man.

C'mon on, seriously? Why delete your post then? (The one I quoted)

I'm cool again, thanks. Learned a lesson or 2 on Photoshop and others. Over and out.

I had noticed you posted about the matter soon after that post, so it was no longer needed in my view as I was already replying to your latest with a more exhaustive post. Man, I never thought I would cause all these issues with this! My apologies to you.

Next time I'll mind my own things, it seems I only cause trouble.
