Hi

So this is an idea I've been toying with lately, whose main purpose is to facilitate cockpit making, especially for people new to the game and engine. As it stands now we have a couple of outstanding cockpit makers like Brain32, Stary and Julhelm just to name a few, whose work is excellent. We also have many up-and-coming modders who are just now making their first works in SF2, like me or Sophocles. For me making a cockpit has not been difficult because of aesthetic reasons but technical ones, setting up all the instruments and so forth.

To bridge this gap I was hoping we could, as a community, create a set of MAX files with instruments freely available to the community complete with commented INI files. This means creating a cockpit would mostly be about creating the mesh, then the aspiring modder could just open up the instrument max file and pick all the appropriate instruments and place them in his cockpit. Over time the library could be expanded to include most common US, Soviet and French instruments, as a lot of the instruments are standard on many different aircraft or at least very similar.

So now I would ask you, the experienced modders, to give us newbies a hand by giving your instruments :salute: . I'm willing to do all the compilation work, basically you would just have to open your cockpit file, delete everything except the gauges and needles (and other assets you are willing to part with that might be of use), save as a different file and send it to me. I will then compile all the gauges to a file which I will put up for download. Regarding the textures these can be sent in any way you please, I will then cut out the unnecessary bits (if any) for minimal file size. And be sure to also send the INI files of your cockpits so that it is basically a cut'n'paste affair to make them work. If you care to comment the files, all the better! I'm hoping this project will enable more modders to make more high quality cockpits for the flying pleasure of us all :beach:

If you have any input please share it here!

With hope of co-operation,

Cnt

i think we have something like that in the Modders Repository (you can find it in the download section) with the cockpits from Stary , Fast Cargo , EricJ and my self for example

- T-38 Cockpit = Fast Cargo

- Yak-23 cockpit = Stary

- Super Hornet cockpit model (beginning) = EricJ

- F-16C Cockpits = ravenclaw_007

- RF-4E Cockpits = ravenclaw_007

the only requirement is you have to be a Modder to get access

aaahhh..... and this is not only for cockpits you can find vehicles , weapons and aircraft models as well there

i know but there is a reason why there is only a limited access to this library otherwise we could put up a sign " piracy allowed "

for the new 3d guy´s we have to find a way so they have access to the files or we Modder are providing it to them on a personal basis but under the mandatory limitations for the library

Great idea...we can extend it to models too...I dont mind if a fellow modder uses say landing gears from one of my donated models If I can use his gauges in a pit im doing lol

thats easy cocas...only modders get the repository \thread password.

Speaking for myself, I really appreciate your gesture cocas :victory: . The vets on this forum have already been extremely helpful and forthcoming with any help I have requested and I am sincerely grateful .. this is a great community!

That said, I am actually looking forward to when one of my projects is released so that I can "earn" modder status. I really do not expect any priviledges that come with the "promotion" before then.

Centurion's ideas are great and I would be more than happy to contribute my stuff to fellow modders in order to avoid duplication of effort.

Regards

I don't see why that cant/couldn't be done, on a case-by-case basis. One of the modders with access, passes on the MAX files to Centurion or Sopochles, if the file is needed. Once modder status has been achieved, they'll get their password.

Can be done via PM or email.

just keep it 'nice and tight'. Piracy has been an issue in the past (but I'm sure the 2 aforementioned are honest), so security is paramount. Even with freeware items

Ok, but since there is this issue for all the new modders maybe it would be a good idea with an instrument repository like this available?

The value of a bunch of gauges for pirates is very limited but could be gold for aspiring modders. I understand very well the hesitance of anyone putting up a complete cockpit without limitations, that is not what I am suggesting! Think of this as a sort of create-a-cockpit toolkit where you just take the bits you need to rapidly have something that works. Not everyone is tech/ini savvy enough to easily implement the various instruments, neither familiar enough with aircraft instrumentation to make all the stuff work as it should.

PS. I didn't even know of the modders repository before you guys mentioned it just now

We can ask Daniel (Kesselbrut), he made a lot of cockpits.

I´m pretty sure he will give out his source files....

what Wrench and Russo said, it's not that we have 100 new skilled 3D guys wanting some help daily... as for Centurion and Sophocles, they already proven they do have skills and pardon me for puting it this way, "good will"

relatively new members simply missed the drama we had here in the past relating to "good will" and models usage

I WILL add to the depo reworked/updated Mig-15/bis/17F pits too when it's ready (2013) aswell as other WW2 ones

Hi folks, I'm new to both 3D and cockpit modding, but I'd like to learn it... Is there some help files tutorials, examples etc out there? I want to make such things noone is willing to make, I have to make myself. And I'm happy to make it myself instead of asking nagging others to do it

      Hello everyone,

I am  re-creating the posts after hte ideas came up about the name of proejcts and what it is about.  This project is to be known as  SF2 Avionics Community Pack (SF2:ACP for short), because the purpose of this projects is to create the assets for anyone to usse  for our mods, as well for customizing our SF2 installation.  You will need to put them into aircraft folder and customize the .ini   files, in order, for them to appear in-game.

This is what I find so enjoayble and I noticed that not many simulation does this.  This s project aims to bring the realistic, immersive expereicnes in cockpits with actual textures for radar scope, RWR, HUD, and any avionics that is currently moddable in SF2 and aircraft mods.

I will exlpain the limitation of SF2 engine, so we can get better pictures of what we can and can't do for now.  I said "for now, is becauuse I have the hope htat someday, somehow, someone manage to make it possible to make avioincs further moddable in SF2.

      1) Texture issues:  What can be done is chan ging radar scope texture.  But the problem is that, the radar symbols / lines colors can not be changed.  We are stuck with default green SF2 radar symbosl /lines / circles.  And eve with new textures, the radar lines / symbols/ shapes will be applied on top of it.  So it mean, if you have 'black line' on top of radar scope like A-4s as an exampe, the radar still overlap it.

Another issues is that, most of SF2 default aircraft does not have texture-able radar scope for 'turned off' radar, so it seem strange how CRT (texture) would suddenly show up when turnig radar on. I wished that the radar scope woudl be texture-able, so that it seem taht only radar lines / symbols / shapes would appear, therefore preserving the immersive experiences.

      2) Lighting, after attempting to use the actual colors of radar scope based on the pictures, as an example,  they usually show upup too bright comnpared ot another instructments / avionics in cockpit. So they need to be darken, in order to blend naturall in cockpits.  And another issue is radar colors of green, it need to be readable, therefore further darken the texture.  So they might will appear  darker compared to the photo.  (I am currenlty wokring on this part on both F-89s and A-4s radar scope and RWR new textures).

      3) Avionics DLLs, there are only two DLLs I believe, that we can use either one of Avionics DLL for early and modern aircraft.  But I still have the hope.  The reason why I have hope is because, I am part of the community that is modding Jane's series simulation.  That simulation is almost 30 years old and people still mods it.  It amazes me, therefore gives me hopes.

Besides the lmitation, it does not stop us from wanting to create the mods that would improve the experiences in avioincs.  What inspired me to do this, I was customizing SF2 installation for early cold war era (My favorite era), in Asia, midddle east, and other theatre, along with later cold war era, I noticed that there is always room of growth and improvement for cockpits.  That is when I came up the awy to improve F-89 series radar scope, as you can see it in another theatre abou Stary's F-89 cockpits.  Then here it is, SF2: Avionics Community Pack!

What would be great help if we can share the pictures and information on the avioinics for various planes, so we can get busy with the  avioniocs improvement.

If anyoneo have the requests for radar scope, or any avioinics improvement, it would be great help if the resources can be provided too.

The next posts will cover what I am doing with both F-89s and A-4s  gunsights, radar scope, and rwr, along with F-89's radar scope.

      Hello!
So, about a year and change ago, I posted about the horrible frankenstein of an install I used to make Wings Over Europe, the Steam version, run on Windows 10. You may be delighted and/or terrified to hear that it both runs and runs well, and is stable.
However, I have encountered a different issue.
I would like to fly the Hawker Hunter. The vanilla engine noise it ships with is absolutely horrible, to the point of making the aircraft unflyable. Being the spiffy little autodidact that I am, I went into the game's root folder, into the objects subfolder, and within it, tried to locate the sound folder so that I may replace the engine sounds. Yes, I checked the game's basic Sounds folder, and the engine sound for the Hunter specifically, among a few other aircraft, isn't there.
The HunterFGA9 folder contains only three files: RAFCamo1, HunterFGA9.ini, and the .bmp image of the aircraft in the hangar. I rummaged around the .ini file to try and locate a directory that it is pulling the sounds from, to no avail. There is a reference inside of said .ini to another .ini by the name of HunterFGA9_data.ini, but I could not locate this anywhere. Clearly, it exists, as the aircraft is flyable in game, but god help me if I can find it.
So, in the briefest possible terms: How can I replace the God-awful engine noise from the Hunter (and multiple other aircraft) with something less ear-bleed-y?

      Hi everyone,
I recently got into weapon modding and wanted to edit some missiles.
I went for the Weapons Folder with the Weapons Editor, and some weapons were missing, even tho i can see them and equip them in-game.
I wanted to edit the AA-2D Atoll for my Su-22M3, but there's no AA-2 folder inside Weapons folder, nor inside plane folder, even tho the missile is equippable and i can see it/use it in-game.
Since there's no Atoll folder, i have no idea how is it possible for me to have it in-game, and even less i know on how am i supposed to edit it through Weapons Editor, since i can't select the folder.
I thought it may be a sort of "built-in-game" missile and for this reason not showing in weapons folder (idk i just made an hypothesis).
So i tried using the CAT Extractor, but seems like not working... no matter which CAT file i select, it says "error opening this .CAT file, no files can be extracted", how's that? How do i fix it? Am i doing something wrong?
Thank you in advance for helping me fixing all these issues or helping me find what i'm doing wrong

      Hi,
after seeing the TMF F-14 has wrong and inaccurate speed and fuel indicators, i found out the default Third Wire F-14 has working and accurate ones, but i dont wanna use it cause the TMF Tomcat is better and the cockpit too more realistic too, so can you switch the speed and fuel indicators on the TMF F-14 with the default Third Wire F-14? And for fuel too? Do you need to 3D model and/or do something else other than edit some text files?
And is it or it's not possible to do?
Down here are 2 pictures from the correct cockpit in the default Third Wire F-14:

And 2 from the TMF F-14 (the inaccurate one):

      Thanks for helping.
