Thanks to Gerwin very speedy work and his superb editor (and also a little thanks to good ole' 3W TE) I have now come about one lightyear ahead when it comes to the terrain, and I have now been able to realize my dream: to make Iran a varied and interested place to fly over! It now feels totally different from the rivered flatlands of Iraq and that is how I always wanted it to be! Also the mountains are varied and do not feel like wierd shapes covered by a tile blanket. I could not be more pleased at the moment. Again, all the thanks goes to Aggie and Gerwin!

Also wanted to add that I had a pretty hair raising attack mission in my Su-20 straight into the heart of the Zagros mountains and Iraq, it was good fun to zip amongs the valleys to get in undetected. My faithful wingman finally nailed the target but unfortunately was not quick enough on his feet throttle and did not make it out of dodge. Finally I ran out of fuel just 20km from my base and performed a semi-crash landing into the contryside. Oh well, I lived to fight another day only to have my entire flight of 8 Su-20s slaughtered by flak on the next mission (which ironically enough was air defence supression)

Nevar!!1 There can only be one Wrench!bowdown2.gif.pagespeed.ce.hVyLpGCsBI.gif

Seriously tho, I would never have the patience to do what you do, targeting and tiling terrains from scratch. I merely did some clever copy-pasting here. I will be sure to give you the tileset plus tilelists and 256x256s for TE when it's done tho, you never know where it might come in handy.

One thing I have been meaning to do for a longer while now is update the F-5E templates, since the Tiger is of course one of the main stars of this conflict. So below are WIP pictures of my "new" 2048 templates with Paulos decal work!

Centurion,

here is maybe something helpful:

http://www.tailormadedecals.com/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=42&Itemid=34

should not be very different from F-5E markings.

When doing high rez skins, i always use only numbers as decals, everything else i paint on the skin.

That looks nmuch better in game.

IMHO the F-5 would look better if you did not overspray most panel lines with a dark color.

that could be the 'blurred' layer;

take the original panel line layer, duplicate it, use Gaussian (sp?) blur at 2, place under the original lilnes, and fade opactity to approx. 25% (or what ever looks best in the region)

Sometime they spread too far and wide; it's an annoying thing to have to keep fiddling with !!

IMHO Skin-modders should consider disabling that 'panel line blur' layer enterily, or use it very sparingly and locally.

Try to mimic the pro's instead:

Good point gerwin, though I'd like to say that it really depends on the service, aircraft type and paint, when was it last given a complete paint job et cetera. But to be fair the IIAF and IRIAF show their aircraft to be in excellent paint more often than not, especially "back in the day". I think I will also make some more heavily weathered "late" skins that simulate late in the war aircraft or modern ones. While the IRIAF seems to keep the F-4s and F-14s in good paint I have seen some F-5Es that are in a pretty sorry state, at least paint wise.

I however toned down the weathering, what do you think now:

IRIAF Camo TFB2

Carlo has helped the mod forward some more, this time some high resolution skins for the Hunters and MiG-21PFM!

What templates?

Stupid question but I don't suppose we have the F-5E 3ds max source retained anywhere?

Pls contact Crusader regarding F-5E source!

EDIT:

Don´t know if the source is still available,

but when Crusader is the man to contact.

Centurion-1: Looks much better now!

I wish weathering was as simple as blurring panel lines, but I am afraid it is not. It appears like pointless shadows.

Some things that worked nicely for the Silver F-5E was to make some panels differ in hue/saturation/brightness.

(Though this trick is rather silver specific.)

Then overlay a 'dust texture' layer. Add some smearing of a more rusty/oily color in the direction of movement (motion blur).  Paint chipping may be nice too but should not be overdone. Etc....

When I find some nice weathering effect in an existing skin I often try to transfer it over by using 'color-range selection'. Then try out with which filter it blends the best on the new skin: Normal/Multiply/Color burn/Screen.

The 3DS source? cool, so the shadow line, that comes from the cockpit when flying upside-down, can still be fixed.

Hello Centurion,

I'm a big fan of your work.

Its worth mentioning that ever since the Azarakhsh and Saeqeh (Iranian derivatives of the American made F-5) started entering service, IRIAF started phasing out the F-5 and to be used mostly as training aircraft.

      Mirage F1EQ5_Iriaf
This mod is dedicated to BPAO, nothing would have been possible without him.
Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force seized 24 F1BQs and F1EQs flown over from Iraq, during the 1991 Persian Gulf War. As of December 2021, 12 Mirage F1EQs and 5 Mirage F1BQs were in service.
This mod is not 100% accurate, Iran used all the EQ versions but for more simplicity we decided to use only one version, the EQ-5, to cover all the IRIAF aircrafts.
There is not a lot of informations about the Iranian Mirage, so we did our best to make a realistic aircraft.
Based on Iraqi F1EQ-5 v4.0.1 mod with the following changes:
all the original Iraqi weapons and pods have been disabled as Iran did not get any of those P7 and sidewinder compatibility added (instead of R550) F5 tanks (underwings stations only) instead of original F1 RP35 US bombs and rockets. Another data.ini version is provided for russians bombs and rockets use instead of US. Covered unit :
      102sd TFS
This addon is and will in all cases remain freeware.
      Released under CombatAce Fair-Use terms.

The Pilot career and the over all campaign designed into EAW is most playable on v1.2.
The EAWPRO has a set of files you can download extra, to give the v1.2 campaign while still using many of the effects and improvements in the FXEXE.

      https://www.mediafire.com/folder/l0g2lap23wi39/game-patch-fxexe
That link is to get the EAWPRO patch and the extra Career Target and FMs Files for it.
