I can tell you right now, it's been over 2 weeks and I'm still not even done with the shape...much less any animations, textures,etc.... And don't get me started on the cockpit... FastCargo

Hey guys, got a short fuse on this one. I have a Dell XPS m170 laptop with a EIDE interface for the internal HD. The BIOS has a 137GB limitation (didn't know this at the time). WinXP SP2 however does not. I used imaging software to copy from my internal HD (120GB) to the new HD (250GB) (no problem...I've used this before to upgrade...works perfectly). Install the new HD. Everything works perfectly (as I expect). I start filling the drive with other stuff I have and eventually shut down after a total of about 170GB. Try to boot the drive today...won't boot. I yank the drive out and put it in the HD caddy. Everything looks intact...I run diagnostics and there appears to be no fragments, or bad sectors. Now here's the question. I can fix the 137GB limitation software-wise...that's not the issue. My question...assuming I pull everything off the new HD, reformat it with software to step around the 137GB limitation, and reinstall it...what's needed to do? Can I simply make it 'bootable'? Reinstall a basic version of the OS and then just copy all the stuff I pulled off it back onto it and be good to go? Or am I totally screwed? FastCargo

I thought the model was the same. FastCargo

Does anyone have a scan of these illustrations ?

I don't have scans...but I have the book (the English version). How bad do you need the scans? FastCargo -
change SPECULAR and GLOSSINES level of LOD models
FastCargo replied to wingwiner's topic in Mods/Skinning Discussion
Heh, slight misunderstanding my friend. The 'MiG-17 PFU radar nose' is not a PART of a aircraft LOD. It is a LOD file that's part of the weaponspack and is considered a pod. I wouldn't be trying to change part of a LOD file. But good info nonetheless...thanks. FastCargo -
Carrier Won't Appear in WoE campaign
FastCargo replied to bcyc's topic in Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Actually, if you just use Kreelin's Mission Editor (located here at Combatace) you can open up a terrain file. It will show the map of the terrain. Just run the crosshairs over the location you want the carrier. The coordinates will show up (I think at the bottom) on the editor. Write those coordinates down. Done! You now have the coordinates to place your carrier. Also, look at these threads carefully if you want to add carriers in the future. It's actually easy if you can handle a text editor. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=12137 <---- Knowledge base thread http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=19550 <---- Another example using WOE terrain FastCargo -
change SPECULAR and GLOSSINES level of LOD models
FastCargo replied to wingwiner's topic in Mods/Skinning Discussion
That's actually pretty useful. I keep thinking it would make Pasko's 'Mig-17PFU radar nose' look a lot better if you could up the gloss/specular to match what it's 'attached' to. FastCargo -
What scares me is that I've flown with his brother who is a LtCol in the USAF. FastCargo

USAF suspends some F-15 operations
FastCargo replied to BUFF's topic in Military and General Aviation
See Sparky, this is the kind of stuff you need to tell us first so we know if you're yanking our chains or not! So we know you just ain't some yahoo spouting stuff he knows nothing about... :) Approaching C-5 MICAP rates? Now, that ain't good either...C-5s aren't exactly known for being reliable. What's bothering a lot of folks is that the 30 day safety report still hasn't been released yet. That's usually never a good sign. FastCargo -
Our T-38Cs have HUD tapes which record all transmissions (both UHF/VHF plus Guard and intercom)...plus the HUD video of course. So I just took my HUD tape, and copyed it to a MPEG file (over 2 GB in size). I actually did do the script for the most part, based on what I could remember. But the video file is 2+ GB in size...I probably will use Windows Movie Maker to reduce it down, plus reorient it vertically. Due to weather, we cancelled our first couple of gos, so I ended up flying a 2 ship solo 3rd go. Thanks for the offer, but I really wanted ol shin_kazama there to provide me with...start contributing to the community instead of just always asking or wanting. FastCargo

You're assuming a 30mm gun doesn't already exist in the gundata.ini. If you've got WOE, the 30mm already exists (I'm pretty sure). It should be as simple as replacing the A-16 gun entry with the A-10 gun entry (just the type of gun)in the A-16 data.ini file. FastCargo

USAF suspends some F-15 operations
FastCargo replied to BUFF's topic in Military and General Aviation
A ploy is lobbying to get more F-22s. Aircraft crashing for midbody cracks is most definitely NOT a ploy. Now, you could use this to an advantage... You have NO idea the mayhem this grounding is causing the pilot force. Trust me on this one, the F-15 bros/safety guys have been giving me the info about it. It's not good. FastCargo -

Shin_kazama, There is a unique opportunity for me this Monday. I am solo in a 4 ship formation, so not only will I have communications for me, but for a 4 ship of military jets (plus HUD video). I mentioned a 'script' I would need to say in order to get authentic voice comm (including jet and mask noise). However, if you want this, you will need to do some work. You will need to provide me that script. Baltika, thanks for the info, that's pretty useful actually. So, what about it shin...ready to get your hands dirty to help put out a mod? FastCargo

"obviously bias inflamatory statement" - To you it is. To me it is not. I read it as he doesn't want to pay for a RF-4C, but prefers to wait to get a free one. FastCargo

Danger Will Robinson, Danger! Dude, will most games even recognize a gameport? Heck, can you even find a gameport card that fits in a semi-modern computer (using PCI slots...last gameport card I had was ISA only). I wouldn't man, you can buy a decent stick for not much more new. FastCargo

still looking for strike eagle sim
FastCargo replied to viperfalcon's topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
It's really about as simple as I wrote in my posts eariler in the thread. First, Janes F-15 looked best running in Glide. For you youngin's, Glide was a video API...similar (and in some ways superior at the time) to Direct 3D. It was only run by video cards that used the Voodoo video GPU made by 3dfx. However, Glide, the Voodoo chip and 3dfx have all been consigned to history. Therefore, there are 2 ways to run a game in Glide mode. 1. Find a 3dfx card and drivers and a old computer that can run them...good luck with that. 2. Run a Glide 'wrapper' program. A 'wrapper' is a program running in the background that takes the game Glide graphic 'calls' and translates them into Direct3D calls. It's additional overhead, but more than likely, the game you are trying to run doesn't need nearly the horsepower modern games do. The 2 Glide 'wrappers' out there I have seen are Glidewrapper (duh) and dgVoodoo. I use Glidewrapper for Janes F-15. I know dgVoodoo works for Jane's Longbow 2. Most Glide wrappers are 'auto detect' ie they will fire up as soon as it detects a game that needs it. Anyway, install Glidewrapper...play with the options a bit. I use 'high res' for JF-15 and Total Air War. Install Janes F-15...you may have to use Win98 compatability mode to get it to install. Patch it with the last patch (1.17f). Run F-15. That's about all I can remember...worked just fine. However, because JF-15 is so old, your results could vary. Good luck. FastCargo -
Sorry, been busy and almost forgot about the thread. Typically, I've been using the stated range reference (where I can find it), convert it to meters, and use that as the max range entry. Also, I usually increase the seeker range to 10% beyond that stated max range entry. The idea of course is that you probably get a 'lock' on the target before you get in range so you can launch at the farthest standoff distance possible. In addition, I use the typical cruising speed of the missile, multiply by the range to get a proper overall duration number...so it hopefully doesn't detonate before it reaches the target. This number is different from the booster and sustainer duration numbers. The thing I haven't used any math for is the acceleration parameters for the booster and sustainer values. I'm not sure what units those numbers are in, and don't know if they take the mass of the missile into account. I get the feeling those acceleration numbers in combination with the duration numbers yields an overall speed of the missile. FastCargo

You may want to tweak that ini entry I gave you with the pod model...I didn't put any ejection velocity on the chaff/flares because I wasn't sure what was good... also, the ejection point was totally a guess. Just my .02...them flares look REALLY close to the fuselage... :) . FastCargo

I keep thinking I should take a solo flight with a piece of paper with all the calls on it, turn on my HUD tape, then say all the lines. Pull the audio off into a file and let someone else parse it out to make a speech mod. Depends if my voice is good enough...otherwise, you've got the effects you need already (engine noise, talking into a O2 mask). Heck, I could even pull G's on some calls...so you get a 'realistic' voice under strain... Let me think about it... FastCargo
