  1. Your choices are either specialized AP ammo for the pistol that goes thru the canopy, or you could set up a shot where the pistol fires at something else first. Say, shoot a propane tank the helo didn't notice it was hovering near, causing the pilot to think they're facing a greater threat than they actually are. Or hit something that flies into the rotor, causing imbalance damage and a hasty retreat. While a pistol alone would normally be too small, if the pistol is used as a tool to leverage something else against the helo it becomes possible.
  2. Yeah, the Foxes weren't worried about bomber radars seeing them. They were up there as missile carriers to take out incoming bombers as far away from home as they could manage. They were never designed to go after fighters, and didn't want to...they were bomber hunters! Aside from the 25RB, of course, which likewise wanted to avoid fighters.
  3. It says something that the MiG-21 is retiring now, taxiing past the far "newer" MiG-25UB that's been a museum piece!
  4. I just hope you didn't take too long after noticing it to mention it to the doctor. The earlier you start treating something, the better off you are pretty much 100% of the time. Better to waste a day and some money on unnecessary tests! I waited a month after my sinuses started to feel congested before I found out I had a sinus infection. I could've taken the antibiotics 3 weeks earlier and saved myself a lot of pain!
  5. While I can understand Halloween, I don't get Black Friday there at all. The only explanation is your retailers have grown envious and want a mad start to the holiday shopping season as well now.
  6. Of course not. However, there is the chance someone could try and shoot HIM down for violating their ADIZ.
  7. This could go either way. It's all dependent on whether someone wants to buy what this offers.
  8. I guess I'm the only one who expected to open this thread and see "...the KRAKEN!"
  9. Maybe something on Steam, forget now. Oh, and I was buying food at Walmart Friday night, and I picked up the Bourne trilogy on BD for $12. And 2010 for $5. Big spending here.
  10. This is Libya's "Line of Death" for the 21st century. Hopefully China is more rational than Quacky Qaddafi.
  11. For the losers, the biggest mistake was getting involved. For the winners, it was also getting involved. It just didn't turn out as bad.
  12. Anyone else have trouble with my_little_scheme....marching up and down the square??!?!?!
  13. I don't often cry, but when I do, I do it over a video of animals. Stay weepy, my friends.
  14. Sinus infection...oh, lovely

  15. Let me know if their condition changes.
  16. This was on the DVD for T3 when it came out. I can't believe no one saw this before now! I always watch all the deleted, extended, and alternate scenes on the DVDs. Well, until the studios got all mad at Netflix and BB and made "rental only" versions of the DVDs that have ONLY the movie. Try and force people to buy EVERY film that comes out if you're interested in anything more than the film itself. Anyone remember when you could rent disc 2 of 2-disc films from Netflix, back in 2005-7 or so?
  17. In 1999, the South Park movie had a song nominated for an Oscar. It was called "Blame Canada." I believe it was written shortly after this country rose.
  18. Oh wow, that was a DI title? I honestly didn't know about them until the 90s.
  19. What I don't get is this: granted the place they landed didn't have a tower. So there was no one there to say "Don't land here!" But weren't they in contact with the place they WERE supposed to land? Didn't they say "here we come" and get a "uh, where exactly are you?" response? While I can accept that the pilots got lost and for some reason didn't pay attention to their GPS, I thought the purpose of ATC was to help coordinate these movements. If the plane is miles away, he's not on your radar, how can you give him permission to land? Did he land without it? Were they sleeping at ATC?
  20. It seems like even the "experts" are completely missing that it was called the "Joint Strike Fighter." Not Joint Dogfighter. Not Joint Air Superiority Fighter. Strike. That is the primary mission. It's not supposed to get in turning battles. It's not supposed to fly at Mach 2+. It was designed to do something that precluded it being able to do EVERYTHING for a decent budget. The budget overruns are indeed ridiculous, but the price doesn't imply it's supposed to be 90% of the F-22 for 90% of the price. It was supposed to be more like 75% for 50% of the price. The fact that it's grown to 90% price while still being just 75% doesn't mean it's horribly deficient. If Apple sold iPads for $3000, they'd have far fewer users. They'd be just as capable, but overpriced and criticized for it. They do what they were designed to do, but that job isn't worth $3000. If the F-35s were costing what they were SUPPOSED to cost, the criticisms would have far less teeth. Just because we're paying Ferrari prices doesn't mean it's a Ferrari that is sub-par, it's just a Lexus at a Ferrari price.
  21. The problem is I think damage modeling is more art than science. For every war anecdote of the 2 hits taking down a bomber you have one of the tiny fighter with 1000 holes making it back to base. I don't think even modern PCs have the speed needed to break down modeling to the point where hitboxes can be inches in size. As a result, we get homogenized damage modeling which means in order for the players not to be knocked out of the sky with a single bullet every time they're fired on, the enemy has to be equally resilient. It's imperfect, certainly, but as long as missions are balanced properly (no "you and wingman taking on an entire squadron, and you MUST knock them all down in 10 mins or LOSE!") it makes missions both more survivable and more interesting to fight. If every mission was either insta-death for you or your targets, it would lose its power after a short time. I often get irritated at how easily I get shot down in SF2 ("he barely hit me!!"), and DCS errs the other way.
  22. The Russians are replacing Su-33s with "new" MiG-29Ks, based on the work paid for by India. Remember the biggest problem with the 33 is it's too big for that carrier. In order to take off with any sort of weapons load it has barely any fuel...and no AAR assets available. The 29K will allow a fighter to be launched that packs a punch AND has the legs to do more than re-enter the pattern.
  23. I thought it wasn't until Northrop's bomber was test flying that the lower RCS was first noticed. I don't think the Germans had the luxury of watching test flights on radar, they were too busy watching for Allied raids.
  24. One does not simply "walk" into Mordor!
  25. Yet the number killed with the chems was a small fraction of those killed overall, on both sides. I don't get it. It's like the concept of a "hate crime". So, if I kill you because you piss me off or you slept with my wife or stole my stuff, I get one sentence. But if I did it because I dislike your race or your ethnicity or your sexual preference, I get a harsher sentence?? WTF? A premeditated kill is a premeditated kill. A spur-of-the-moment kill is a spur-of-the-moment kill. Killing your people with bombs and bullets is bad, but using chemical weapons to kill a handful is somehow SO much worse? Seriously? A few hundred out of the multiple thousands were killed that way, does it matter if they were gassed, strangled, or knifed? Why does the manner in which they are killed matter so much? They're just as dead.
