Veltro2k WWII WIPS
Centurion-1 replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
Crazy nice planes there Veltro! -
Yes please send them to me, also if you have any of your F-5 or F-4 skins finished those would be nice as well!

Ok, finally got my moving business concluded last weekend, so I can now get back to modding again finally. For the moment I am mainly just waiting for the Su-20A for the first campaign, and working on the F.1EQ and MiG-25 for the later campaigns. Morteza did you get around to doing those F-14 serials? This project is still top prio for me along with the assets needed for it.

Well, I don't know about historical but I did do a what-if 1970 campaign featuring said planes, from my other thread: It never got past beta actually since some assets were missing but if you want to help Paulo finishing it would not be that hard actually! And making earlier and later version with different aircraft is not hard once you got the basics down.

Wow, that's cool! Some thing you just can't get from the net! I wonder what the combat efficiency of it was? AFAIK this is the only cluster-missile carried by US tactical aircraft, or am I wrong? -

actually, would a drivable jeep be that hard to do? Just four wheels, non retractable landing gear. Might be fun for giggles. Makes me think of the flying Trabant mod for Operation Flashpoint -
Hi guys I am back from my vacation now! I am in the middle of moving, however, just like Martin, so it will be a little while longer before I can start modding for real again. Man, moving is PITA...

That's great. I'm leaving for a vacation tonight, so I'll be gone for a week! See you all when I get back!

Well, I do not, at this time, have much reason to doubt Coopers research, and he is one of the few sources avaliable for the subject matter. Visavi the downed Libyan Blinder I do not think that he would make such a bold statement if it could not be proved. Regardless, advisors were present and they flew combat sorties for the IrAf. As for who flew what types that is pretty hard to answer without thorough documentation. This article has a picture show the downed Blinders landing gear. If they found that, what is to say they did not find any bodies? I know the importance of critically assessing sources, thank you, but so far I am not going to throw Coopers research down they toilet because the LSK did not fly bombers.

My Projects (EricJ)
Centurion-1 replied to EricJ's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Nice write up. I'd personally spend more time explaining photoshop and layers. Maybe a basic list of layers you most likely need, and in what order they should be. I could write something up if you want to? -
Soo... I am working on the TMF Mirage F.1 and for some reason max would not open the texture files / show them in the original files so I had to make a blank scene and import the model by the merge function and redo the materials. Now, for some reason, the material glitches occasionally very badly, like so: This mostly occurs when there are effects present like flak bursts or afterburner. Is there some problem with my 3ds max materials?

Nice read! It didn't seem like the Iraqis got a very long training before being sent to the frontlines, but that is to be expected I guess. I am unsure as to wether I should incorporate the MiG-21F-13s or F-7s into the campaign, as far as I can tell they were not used in combat in the Iran-Iraq war, what do you guys think?
-
Yes, Tom Cooper does give them very much credit for their Tu-22 Blinder ops, they fared just as well (or, rather, just as poorly) as the Soviet and East German advisers that also flew the type for Iraq. The Iran-Iraq conflict is really interesting from the standpoint of the huge support Iran had prior to the war, allowing the Shah to build and train an absolutely world-class air force with top-of-the-line equipment, and then respectively the huge support Iraq got from the USSR and France after the conflict started. It must have been seen as a golden opportunity for the Soviets to test their front-line equipment against a modern force with American equipment. The sometimes embarrassing result was probably food-for-thought for the Soviet defense industry. Nevertheless, the Iraqis did rather well all things considered.

Nice one Paulo! Interesting fact: In the Iranian Phantom book by Tom Cooper Strahi posted he stated that sometimes later in the conflict Iraq used MiG-21MFs equipped with Matra Magic missiles flown by french mercenaries to good effect. Had the source been anyone else I'd have doubted that seriously, but it is a cool factoid. @Martin: agree
