RAVEN replied to mue's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Mue, I dont think the game is (Case Sensitive) not 100% I've never had a CTD or aircraft not show up because of it, or any other problem because of Capital letters. Or a mismatch like Fuselage / fuselage. -

Just thought I'd add this Velo, I'm running Win 7 64 with the intel intergraded graphics, DirectX 11 and it shows up real fine, but I also installed the DirectX 9. Don't know if it makes a difference? I have the same problem on my XP Machine, with a Redon HD 4650 1gig card.. -
Aircraft Toughness
RAVEN replied to ShrikeHawk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
The aircraft, cockpit or any object in game is just eye candy. Everything else is defined by a data file, be it a FM or just a simple .ini. With the right _Data.ini you can make a brick model fly like a F-35 or a Camo-net launch like a SAM. With that said, I'd like to say Thank you to the people that spend long hours working on the FM's. Aircraft Toughness
RAVEN replied to ShrikeHawk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Just thought I'd throw this in. On ALL the aircraft I've made the Min/Max for the Engines, Guns and Fuel tanks is taken from Max output data from meshes I added to the model, then removed before export.. So they are correct for size and volume, too include location in the airframe. -
I missed #4 and #15.

Stage Two is Textures and weapons. I have an idea for a pit, but it's intended as an AI. Someone said they wanted a UFO to shoot down. Hee, hee! Good luck, their going to be hard to kill. At the moment I'm using the A-12 FM. I would like to Self illuminate the spinning disk, faster it spins it will get brighter. The cockpit (dome) will be a .tga, which can be more transparent, but I'm putting it at Opaque for now. -
Russ can you give me a quick and simple 'Flat Rotating Disk.' Explanation? Things I know about it. 1 use fake prop engine, no thrust. Thing I don't Spinner has to be exported? Disk has to be exported? -Data.ini entry, Don't know the Rotation statement to spin on the Horizontal Plane like your airborn Radar. can't find an example TIA Nevermind, I got it. Thanks anyway.

I had try several different ways to make it work. the black of a tga will stretch to fit the mapping of a mesh, taller black area will force it to compress, making the non transparent area display correctly. On the tga above, the letters are the correct size, but the black is 4x taller. At a guess for the Wildcat, I'd say increase the the hight of the Black by a 1/4, or less. Hopefully the distortion is liner, if not you'll have to play with the roundel shape also. Have fun, took me hours to get the Mk.20 decal correct. -

I just wish there was a way to get rid of the fues roundel warpage. ? Is it painted on or a decal, because if it's a decal, I know how to fix it. (Possibly) it's real simple. Invers warp the decal. Simple terms, make the decal a rectangle like 40 X 32 . The decal on the Nosegear door of the Canberra_Mk20 is 512X128 to make it look right. Took my a bunch of trys to get it right. -
There is a possible work around, but it would take some exact modeling. Destroy the canopy or canopy glass depending on the aircraft with a ini edit. Replace it with the canopy mesh you want with Fake Pilot. It won't open. And you need someone to create the addon in Max. If I get to needing a break from my current project, I give it a try on a F-4?

I just did a test. Keep in mind that I do all my lod viewing from a temporary folder (Easyer to navigate while modding with Max and PS) I changed a Canopy.tga from 1X1 px to 512x512. The canopy is still not transparent, but the texture shows up nicely. -

Wrench. If you right click the Texture name in the bottom left window, you get the export. Everything (every mesh) on that texture. If right click a mesh name in the top box you get just that mesh. If you already no this, disregard this post. :) Also if you create a bland texture, name it to match, you Git a great UV MAP I add xx to the original Tex name to hide it from the viewer. -

Pull Cockpit FOV Back Some
RAVEN replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Just thought I'd throw this in. On some of the pits I've made, I've had to cheat on placement and size of the meshes sometimes to make things look correct because of the FOV limitations. Don't know if it's somethi that can be corrected with an ini edit. -

I was in the 2bn 37 armor (1973-1976) and the one thing in the film that made me laugh was you don't go into a gunfight and leave most of your ammo outside the tank. Also, the TigerI could have just stayed where it was and dusted the Shermans. I could be wrong, but I don't think the Tiger would have gone into the field and exposed it's ass-end, Personal thought, bad remake of To Hell and Back.
