The future of SF?
Icarus999 replied to streakeagle's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I fully agree on the cats .... and the ability to take a real look at the inner workings of the locked LOD based terrain system would lead to a new era in terrain development. -
Rest in peace Jug, you will be missed.

512X512 tiles for Rends Germany View File This is a simple 512X512 tile resize of Rends /Stary's 1024X1024 Germany tile set. All artistic credit goes to Rends and Stary for creating these beautiful tiles,I simply resized them. These are tiles only... you will need rends full terrain to make this conversion work correctly. If you do not already have it -get the original terrain here: http://combatace.com/topic/82151-germany-terrain-rework-part-1-of-3/ Install the full terrain as per instructions in the original readme. Back up your original GermanyCE folder in case you do not like this mod and want to go back to 1024. The GermanyCE folder should be located here: Saved games/ ThirdWire/StrikeFighters2 Europe/Terrains/GermanyCE Unpack this mod to your desktop Copy the contents of each( season folder) to its corresponding folder i.e.- Spring to Spring / Summer to Summer. Purpose of this mod? My SF2 settings are set to maximize Eye candy, and immersion at the expense of frames per second. I run detail mesh settings at 16 to 24 and in some patch levels I run increased horizon draw distances of up to 200000.0----- I have struck a careful balance that keeps my frame rates just in the playable range. Rends awesome, highly detailed Germany pushed the frame rates into the unplayable range with these settings, so I undertook some experimentation to increase fps. Thru tightening my RAM speed settings and using these resized tiles I have seen a small improvement that puts the FPS back into the playable range. However takeoffs at certain airbases can still be a bit choppy. I believe that RAM speed is very important with this terrain and its high object density. These resized tiles may be of benefit to those who have older computers, or those who run high detail mesh sizes. Icarus999 Submitter Icarus999 Submitted 05/12/2014 Category Tilesets for Terrains

So I have a resized tile set to upload, and I have secured permission from one of the authors, however the second author (Stary) has vanished from the forum. I have tried to contact him through facebook and had no luck. I have been holding off on uploading the file for a month or so until I get the go ahead from him. I'm pretty certain he would be fine with the tile size conversion... but I want to make sure the rules are followed. What is the protocol in situations like this?

Bigger smoke?
Icarus999 replied to Rends's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Yep that's the one I was talking about . I tried to combine it with Stary's old large oil fire from EE2 (pretty epic... huge flames and blasts - like an oil rig fire) but there were particle system issues in SF2. -
Bigger smoke?
Icarus999 replied to Rends's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I have one just like that from my gen 1 install, very impressive huge black windblown smoke. Tried to combine it with a large fire but had problems getting them to show in SF2. Not sure if it was the new particle system or the SF2 shaders or both -
Full day bloom mod
Icarus999 replied to Stary's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Stary what is the horizondistance setting used in those shots? It looks like you have found a way to increase the draw distance like we were able to before TK changed it for the new terrain engine. With older patch levels one could set HorizonDistance= to between 100000.0 to 200000.0 if they had a powerful rig. After TK made the change, any attempt I made to approach or exceed to 100000.0 mark induced visual artifacts into the horizon point. -

YAP has the Midways and maybe a Forestall -
Great movie, and a rarity in that the events were changed from the real story in a way that actually downplays the ordeal that the single man that survived went through. In reality he crawled on his belly with a broken back for miles through the mountains before he reached safety The seal in question did not want the movie to glorify himself at the expense of the memory of his team mates.
