  2. While testing Faroer terrain. MiG-17K squadron strikes british carrier A couple of hits with S-24 rockets sunk the ship. Further bomb attacks on escort vessels were not realy successfull Thatswhy the strike group headed home to the own carrier Home again
  3. This was only bulgarian. The soviets does not need such "maskirovka". In all squadrons with red tactical numbers were "red 10" or "red 12" planes. There were so many "red 10s" in the USSR that it would be enough to confuse the NATO analysts. The NATO developed a methode to analyse the numbers in size and distance between the digits. So it was possible to identify a single plane with a certain accuracy. BTW, the 2 digit tactical numbers were introduced during or short after the Korea War. In the time before the last 3 digits of the product identification number was used as tactical number. In my old military service the tactical number was given out randomly. It was no logical system in it. It could happen, that the number was used twice. As long the planes or helicopters were operated by different units it was no problem. Only when two planes with the same number came to the same unit one plane was renumbered. I know, that i have everywhere in my archiv an article about the soviet tactical number system. It was from early 90th. Perhaps i find it.
  4. The soviet serial numbers were always the same in all squadrons. Mostly 2 digit. Except the 13 (bad luck number). Very seldom 3 digit. If two or more squadrons were placed on the same airfield the colors of the numbers was different.
  5. Please correct the typo in the name of the system. Correct is "Shturm" not "Shtrum" Shturm is a russian loan word from german language. In original "Sturm". Sturm has 3 meanings, one meterological (engl. storm), second military (assault) and third sporty (forward). The russian word "Shturm" is used similar to the two last german meanings. For the meteorological phenomenon the russians have other words, like buran, burya or uragan.
  6. I think it is not released yet.
  7. Heading home final approach hook down Catch the wire
  8. Which version of Windows do you use?
  9. Hunter over the Shetlands (Faeroer terrain WIP). Final approach Some second to tochdown at Tingwall Airfield (Shetlands)
  10. German MiG's over the Faeroer islands heading to the Shetlands. The worst thing that can happen to us is a german in a MiG! Heading home
  11. The tasks i set myself. Finishing the Faeroer terrain. Finishing the Kuril islands terrain with new tileset and in 250m resolution.
  12. I think this should work. Delete the corrupted campaign and restart a new one.
  13. A squadron of MiG-21KST attacked the carrier Kittyhawk near Faeroer islands.
  14. Spitfire IXc recon flight over the Faeroer islands intercepted by Me-109G10.
  15. You should have in mind, that in reality a single important target like a bridge was defended by 80 Flak guns, following the soviet doctrine. The game engine allows only 16 Flak guns per target area. So my "heavily" defended targets are nothing compared with reality.
  16. View File Korea MiG-Alley terrain Korea MiG-Alley 1.0 ***************************************************** This terrain is written for SF2. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I. Short description: 2013, five years ago i decided to start work on a Korea terrain, especially for Korea War. As usual for me i wanted to creat a more or less 100% scaled terrain, in contrast to the 66% scales which the TerrainEditor is usually made for us. It was a slow progress work. Now, five years later, i release the first version of Korea MiG-Alley terrain. Korea MiG-Alley terrain does not cover entire korean peninsula. It is focused on the so called MiG-Alley. The MiG-Alley was an area in north west Korea which was controlled and patroled by MiG-15 planes, which were based on airfields in China. The chinese airbases were out of "reach" for the UN Air Forces. Out of reach meant, it was not allowed to bomb or straff this bases. MiG-Alley terrain is made for simulating the air warfare of the Air Forces, not the Navy, during the Korea War from 1949 to 1953. The terrains timeframe is set from 1949 to 1955. Active airfields you will find in China and in South Korea. Airfields in North Korea are in building stage, what means they cant be used by the red side. But they are targets for the blue guys. You will find a lot of ground targets in the MiG-Alley. Bridges, factories, railway stations etc. All are heavily defended by Flak artillery. You will find some ship traffic along the west coast and some truck convois in the MiG-Alley. There are also targets of opportunities, like fuel depots consists of fuel barrels. If you find one, bomb it! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ II. INSTALLATION: Unzip all files into your saved game mod folder ...ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 . To run this terrain properly you need to link it to an terrains CAT file. From stock the terrain is prepared to link with SF2 Israel If you dont have SF2I you must open the file KoreaMiGAlley.ini with Windows notepad editor. Look for the lines: CatFile=..\IsraelME\IsraelME.cat //CatFile=..\GermanyCE\GermanyCE.cat //CatFile=..\VIETNAMSEA\VietnamSEA.cat //CatFile=..\Desert\Desert.cat Add // in front of CatFile=..\IsraelME\IsraelME.cat to switch ot off. The TOD's, what means the trees and autogenerated houses on the map, are mostly taken from various tilesets made by Stary. The dam files were made by Swambast. The basic files for the taxiways, parking areas and quais are made by ErikGen. I cant remember who gave me the ponton bridges, the airfield tower and the locomotive files. Please contact me, that i can give you the proper credit. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ IV. This Terrain is Freeware. 19. The Top Gear helicopter of clumsiness Inspired by these old BBC Top Gear episode:
  20. For training the MiG's had so called "Schreiberraketen". I dont know a correct english translation. They were white and had 3 or 4 black stripes. The outer shape of this devices was like a missile without fins and rocket engine. As example here a rare shot of an east german MiG-23ML with this training missiles for R-23 and R-60.

  23. What if Germany would have bought MiG-29K instead of giving up Russia's debts.
  24. Nice pictures. One comment. The Bundesmarine was founded in 1956. ;-)
