The behaviour of the german politicians is unbelievable. First they sent our soldiers into the war in Afghanistan. Then they say that there is no war, call it a stabilisation task or something .... . And if german soldiers come in dangererous situations and shooting back the politicians give the soldiers in the hand of the german justice. It is now 8 month ago that a german soldier opend the fire on a car that came with high speed to the checkpoint and wont stop. Unfortunatly he killed 3 civilists. With the next plane he was sent home. And when he arrived in Germany he came in front of a court of law and was accused to be a murder. Now, 8 month later it is declared that he has done correct on the Checkpoint. It is no wonder that a lot of german soldiers deny to shoot on the Taliban. In the time of Frederic the Great it was that "A german soldier fears his officer more that the enemy" today you must say "The german soldier fears the lawyers more than the enemy". It is not astonishing, that the german officer who odered the air strike on the taliban captured fuel trucks is now also faced with a german court of law. What a shame!

Thanks for the new terrain, Stary!

Its only to replace the WW2 airfields by the WW1 style airfields. Its not a very big job. -

My 10 cents to this discussion are: Flandern terrain is not by me. I made BoB terrain (Battle of Britain) for SFP1. If you want to fly over the english channel (Ärmelkanal in german language) then you can use BoB terrain in FE. It works more or less fine, the only thing would be that the airfields must get a WW1 look. Generally spoken you can use terrain made for SFP1 in FE, but not the FE made terrain in SFP1. -
What`s wrong with the MiG's
Gepard replied to magic1104's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I think the F-104 flight model is overrated. The Starfighter turns and accelerates better tahn in reality. But we should not forget: its a game! -
The main reason for the big RCS of the Su-27 family was the fan of the engines. In head on maneuvres the radar of the enemy got a perfect view on the fan. Same problems had MiG-29, F-15 and in some aspects F-16. Coating of the air intakes are a big improvement. The americans did it with the F-16, the soviets tested it with the MiG-29M (i'm not sure wheter they have introduced that feature in real life service) The RCS of the MiG-29A was 15 square meters (nearly that of a Tu-16 bomber) the RCS of the MiG-29M was 1.5 square meters.

Low RCS versus airframe performance
Gepard replied to vanir's topic in Military and General Aviation
Why the people only want to fight yesterdays wars! Neither the Raptor nor the Flanker are usefull in our todays conflicts. You spent enourmous amounts of money for nothing. Its like building battleships between WW1 and 2. Worth for nothing. Today we need combat helicopter and planes like the A-10 or Su-25. -
Maybee they only want to give their pilots a cheap flying machine. If you see what it cost to hold a F-15 or F-16 one hour in the air, then you can understand that they will use the good old reliable and cheap Fishbed. High tech fighters are senseless in Iraq.

Sorry guy, that article is rubbish. There has someone looked on a warshaw pact map and saw all designations in cyrillic letters. And so the tale starts ...

The Tomcat was a very nice bird. No question about it. It was well promoted in the cinema with "Top Gun" movie. A lot of its reputation came from this movie. The Tomcat had an outstanding performance as interceptor. It was designed to defend the US carrier battle groups against soviet bombers. It was the first plane with lift body design but it was the last fighter with swing wings. And the swing wings are the weakpoint (not only at the Tomcat, also at the MiG-23 etc.) The swing wing design is heavy and potential dangerous for the pilot. Cracks on the swing wings grounded very often the entire Tomcat fleet. As a dogfighter the F-14 performed not very wellagainst german MiG-29s, while israeli F-15s made a much better job in test fights against the german Fulcrums. The design of the Eagle is much more reliable. This plane had an outstanding performance to withstand battle damages. In one case 1982 a syrian MiG shot a missile on an Eagle and the half wing of the F-15 was blown away. The F-15 managed the way home. In an other case a SAM destroyed a whole wing of a F-15 and also this bird came home safely. I doubt that a Tomcat would have survived such battle damages. A better reliability, better battle damage resistance and a great performace in combat. Thatswhy i vote for the Eagle. But the be honest: the Tomcat looks better ;-)

I think the Eagle was better. Its in service still today, the Tomcat isnt.

Have a small problem. I wanted to try out the LoFi outfit of the forum and now i find no way to reset the old HiFi style. -
Its a good point. And it would be nice to confirm the statement of the remark. That a western nation like France has broken the own embargo is not really surprising for me. Politicians say often one thing and do exactly the opposite. The german example would be that officially it is not allowed to sell german weapons to middle east. In reality West Germany sold Israel the M-48 tanks which fought in 6 day war.

Hot girl. But this is no R-73 missile.

An other picture from an israeli Museum i found in the net: http://www.airliners.net/photo/Israel---Ai...1399c12c90ba151 interessting is the remark: "501 (cn 1) Despite the official story that this is an IAI Nesher, a check of the aircraft ID plates in the wheel wells reveals that this is really the first production Dassault Mirage 5J. On display in the Israel Air Force Museum."

German Speech Pack Beta

All you cant understand is german. An update will come when my microphone is working again. At the moment it is striking and i dont know why. -
I made the tutorial "my way to make terrains" for the SFP1,WOX sims. It works with FE too. Simply look in the tutorials. try it out and if else problems, then ask again.
-
Normaly the fabrication numbers are placed in the wheelbay. At the MiG-21 it is in the main gear, but also in some cases in the front wheel bay. Its only a guess, but i think at the Nesher it could be placed at the same places. I would try to look at this places and try to find out wheter there are some sort of fabrication type shields with the name of the manufacturer or the "Made in Israel" or "Made in France" or such things.

The MiG-23MLD polk in the GDR (east germany) was left there in the late 80th because a lot of staff officers of the Soviet HQ in Germany were pilots and were only trained on the MiG-23. To keep their pilot licence they had to fly a certain amount of hours per year. They found simply not the time to make their staff job and at the same moment do a reschooling (hope this is the right term) on the MiG-29 or Su-27.
