Mi-24 skin problem
Gepard replied to Ice Man's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I tested the installation procedure for my Paula again with SFP1, WOE, WOE and it runs fine. If you extract file Mi-24P Paula.rar you get a folder with name Mi-24P Paula In this is a Subfolder with the name Mi-24P Paula in this you find 3 Folders 1. Mi-24P 2. Sounds 3. Weapons. Move the folder Mi-24P into your aircraft folder. Then you need the file Mi24P-R0D.LOD which you get from Capuns homepage. Without this file you will see no heli, but only the armament without enithing else. Thats it. Mi-24P Paula is made for 1.st generation Sim. If the skin files would be corrupted you would see a white Helicopter. -
In the file environment.ini i found the lines: [Gravity] Acceleration=9.81 ForceVector=0.0,0.0,-1.0 Does it mean, that if i set Acceleration=0 i can make a space sim? Opens this horizons for a X-Wing mod or a Klingon vs Starfleet mod?

Unfortunatly it is not available.

Northop N-102 Fang
Gepard replied to streakeagle's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
Yeah, the Fang was a nice bird. Unfortunatly it came never in the air. It would have been a better choise than the Starfighter. By the way, the Starfighter is in game the most overmodelled plane. -
Nobody with a clear head will claim that the USA are unwilling to help. It is one of the most outstanding behaviors of that nation, that if somewhere in the world is a urgent need of help after natural disasters, the USA will send men, food and equipment. It does not depend on the government of the USA, it not depend on the president. Obama send help now to Haiti, Bush did the same after the Tsunami 5 or 6 years ago. And the other "western" contries are helping too, ouf course not with the big effort the USA is able to do. Perhaps the term western countries is wrong selected, perhaps the term "the old and the new world" is better. The help comes from the communist Cuba, South American States, over Russia, EU States, CANADA to the USA. A very wide range of countries. Help is enough, but it is difficult to bring them into a "failed" country. That the infrastructure is destroyed is terrible, but the most horrible thing for the people is that in Haiti is no working government, no really police, no military, no civil protection service ...

Mirage 2000EM
Gepard replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
I made an update to version 1.1. In is version of the Mirage2000EM i have changed the flightmodel to fit in the October2008 patch. With the old flightmodel the Mirage had the tendency to overroll and by using the autopilot to overpitch while landing approach. With version v1.1 the Mirage200EM had become again a very good dogfighter with acceptable handling capabilities. -
No. It was a Trainer or an ground attacker. Never a fighter. The west german intended to use the Alpha Jet as helicopter destroyer and trained it using CH-53 as mock up enemy. After the unification of Germany they tested it with a Mi-24. After this test the heli destroyer role of the Alpha Jet was more than dead.

I would set the (normal combat) weight of 10 tonnes as the border between light fighters and medium fighters.

They sold a herbizid and the US used it as weapon. A typical dual use problem. If would want to prevent dual use problems you not even could sell kitchen knifes.

Who knew P-3's were so threatening?
Gepard replied to DWCAce's topic in Military and General Aviation
The EU is far to be perfect. In contrary. The european unification may be a fiction. But it is the biggest peace keeping activity worldwide. If you remember back how often in history the europeans played their favorit game "kill each other" and how often they played it when became member of the EU (EC) then you would see the worth of the EU. Its far better to have a very suboptimal EU than to have one optimal war. -

Used the french Jaguars the metric system in the HUD or were all data displayed in knots and feet? -
Making ground objects from terrain folders
Gepard replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
The planes at the ground are generated at the airfield by the gameengine itself. (singlemissions and campaign) In a self scrippted mission you can use all ground objects which are placed in the groundobjects folder. For a static FokkerDRI you must create such a folder and place all neccessary files in this folder. That are all files you find in the FokkerDRi plane folder plus the LOD file, which you must extract first with SFP1E tool. Then you must edit the FokkerDRI_data.ini file in the way, that the plane cant start anymore and and and. If i remember right, there someone had make static planes for SFP1 for using in scripted missions. Perhaps you should look there how he had done it. In a similar way you can include Hangars etc in scrippted missions. But i think it would be easier to look for a place on the map where you find what you need. -

Jaguar A question
Gepard replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Thanks for the info. -

"War is continuation of politics by other means, conducted in a manner dictated by generaly accepted law and custom" This words are written by von Clausewitz in his book "Vom Kriege". Some, better said the most people believe that this famous word are the definition of war. And so our politicians make war as a continuation of their politics, in the kind they make politics. And this is one reason for the desasters of the "democratic warfare". Von Clausewitz definition of war is different. He wrote: "War is an act of violance with whom we try to force the enemy our will." (I hope this translation is correct. The german original text is: Krieg ist ein Akt der Gewalt mittels dessen wir dem Feind unseren Willen aufzwingen wollen.) I would hope our politicians would anderstand the big difference.

MiG-21MF-75
Gepard replied to Erwin_Hans's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Each east german MiG-21 had had a unique camo sceme. What means, you could make more than 250 original camo scemes. -
I will focus my words on war theory and on conclusion toward the war at the Hindukush. The term "War on Terror" or "War against Terror" show the problem. Its a problem of understanding. Terror is no opponent which you can fight. Terror is a tactic, its a strategy. "War against terror" is nonsens like "War against Blitzkrieg" or "War against Retreat". You can fight only against an enemy. Conclusion: Look who the enemy is. Name it. Then decide how to fight. This are the basics. The other basics are written in the book "Vom Kriege" by the prussian general Carl von Clausewitz. This book is standard in all military libraries all around the world. Its an old book (written 1832) but up today the best book about the subject of war. Read it and you know what went wrong in Afghanistan. Two basic rules by Clausewitz are called "Victory". 1." To achieve the victory you must fight with all power, with all ressources and with all methodes of warefare. If not you will lose the war." Ask: Is the west willing to fight following the first rule? If yes we should sent more men into Afghanistan. And if i say more men i'm not speaking of 30.000, but of 3.000.000. If no then we should retreat as fast as possible. 2 rule by Clausewitz:."The victory is achieved either if the enemy is accepting our will or if he is totally annihilated, so that he is unable to resist our will." Conclusion: Our enemy are the taliban. They are fanatic religious motivated guerilla fighters. It is impossible to break their will. Thatswhy they must be annihilated man by man. But as guerilla fighters the taliban were supported by the people of Afghanistan (Mao said: A guerilla is withn the people like a fish in the water. It is difficult, or nearly impossible to decide friend or foe) Conclusion: To annihilate all taliban it is neccessary to annihilate all supporters. What in reality means, that if one person in a village would support the Taliban you must annihilate the entire village, all men, women, children, even all animals. You must burn them out. You must break the resistance by all means. What means our forces will have to do warcrimes to win this war. Ask: Is the west willing to fight in this way? Is he willing to accept war crimes to annihilate the enemy. If the answer is yes, then send more troops. If the answer is no, then call back the boys. Final conclusion following Clausewitz: Make a war right, or let it be.

My two cents to this subject. It is unfortunatly impossible to expand an existing map. So you cant include London in Flanders terrain. It is outside the map (height data field) and then there is the "invisible wall" too, which is along the edges of a terrain which you cant penetrate. It is also true, that the SFP1 tiles covers an 2000x2000 meters area, while FE use 500x500meters. If you want to improve the look of my BoB terrain you have two ways. Either you increase the size (pixels) of the tiles (for instance use 1024x1024 pixel instead 256x256) or you retile the entire terrain with FE tiles which is an very time consuming procedure. By the way, perhaps it would be better to use the modern BoB70 terrain for a WW1 mod. Paris is completly new tiled there. A lot more targets and a Eiffel tower (not the best model i must say)

Its outstanding if i focus my view on the movie technology. I have never seen such a movie before. Chapeau! But the story! I dont know, its reminds me ... Lets say the old west german Winnetou movies, it reminds me to "Dances with Wolves" it reminds me .... I think better good copied that bad self developed.

Who knew P-3's were so threatening?
Gepard replied to DWCAce's topic in Military and General Aviation
Arroganz is the first step to underestimate an enemy. Underestimation is the first step in the mud. So it was in Korea, so it was in Vietnam, so it was in Iraq, so it was in Afghanistan ... Hopefully not in Venezuela. Nobody is forced to love Chavez. But call him a MF or ass..le or nuts or crazy or stupid does not solve the problem. In contrary. You give him what he need, the outside enemy. Its so easy for Chavez to wave with the fingers and call the old song of "old bad imperialistic US". And his people will believe him. Sometimes it is better to set on smart ideas than on the power of muscles. The war on the heads in the arabic world is already lost. And it are serious signs that the war on the heads will be lost in south america.
