  1. Without wishing to hijack the thread, and I certainly don'twant to stray into any real world issues, your list above got me thinking Kevin. I know that you are 'modernising' one of the Pacific terrains at the moment. How about looking at the Burma terrain sometime in the future? Maybe wiyth a view to some sort of fictional UN intervention campaign? I took a quick look at the Wiki article on the Burmese AF here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burma_Air_Force We have a surpising amount of their equipment either in existence or in WIP. Here are the highlights: Equipment Fighters/Interceptors 52 × Chengdu F-7s equipped with French R550 Magic Air-to-air missiles) (PRC) 12 × MiG-29A/B (Russia) (Additional Mig-29s ordered in 2006 .) [2] Fighters/Ground Attack 16 × Shenyang J-6 (PRC) 48 × Nanchang A-5 (PRC) Counterinsurgency 12 × G-4 Super Galeb (Yugoslavia) 7 × Pilatus PC-9(Switzerland) 14 × Pilatus PC-7(Switzerland) Transport 6 × SAC Y-8D2/Antonov An-12 (PRC) 2 × Fokker F-27 (Netherlands) 3 × Fairchild-Hiller FH-227B (US) 3 × Beechcraft D-18S (US) Training & Maritime Survillence 2 × Mig-29UB (Russia) - more on order 10 × GAIC FT-7 (PRC) 4 × Shanyang FT-6 (PRC) 24 × Hongdu K-8 (PRC) 5 × Pilatus PC-7 (Switzerland) 2 × Britten-Norman Islander (Transferred by India in August 2006) Liaison Aircraft 4 × Cessna 180 (US) 1 × Cessna 550 (US) 5 × Pilatus PC-6A/B Turbo Porter Helicopters 11 × Mi-17 (Russia) 22 × UH-1 Iroquois (US) 20 × W-3 Sokół (Poland) 20 × Mi-2 Hoplite (Poland) ?? × HAL Dhruv (India - transferred in late 2006) 6 × Bell 206 Jet Ranger (US) 6 × SA-316B Alouette III (France) Serials and Markings Myanmar national insignia (white triangle with yellow field in the center and borders in blue) is usually applied on six positions. The serialling system of Myanmar Air Force aircraft is suggested to serve as both – unit and individual aircraft identity, this could not be confirmed so far, however. Most of the older airplanes carried the serials with the prefix “UB” and the numbers in Burmese. Sometimes the serials were outlined in white. Combat aircraft generally carry serials in black. SA.316B Alouette III: Dark Green overall, large black serial on the boom: UB6101 (unit unknown). UH-1H: camouflage colours unknown, serials reported to be 6201 through 6218 (unit unknown). F.27 Troopship: white overall, double black cheat line along the fuselage, black serial on the forward part of the fin: 5001 (unit unknown). PC-6B: Dark Earth on Light Earth over, Sky under, white serial on the rear fuselage: 50+04 (unit unknown). PC-7: Dark Grey or Dark Olive Green overall, black anti-glare panels in front of the cockpit, ruder checkered in black and yellow, serials in white, split by the national marking: 23+01 through 23+16 (two of original Swiss civil codes are also known: HB-HQA and HB-HQB), (Flying School). PC-9: like above; serials unknown (unit unknown). G-4 Super Galeb: Dark Olive Drab over, Sky under; white serial on the nose: 371, 376 (Fighter Training School/COIN Squadron). F-7M: Dark Grey and Dark Green over, Light Blue underneath, national markings on the top of the fin and on rear fuselage (over the trailing edge); serial in White split by the national marking: 16+22. A-5M: Dark Green/Dark Earth/Sand over, Sky under; black serial on the fin: 1503 (unit unknown, but could be the 1st Wing). W-3: Black or Dark Green overall, national marking on the fin, no serials visible. MiG-29: "Russian" Light Blue overall, with "Azur" Blue and Light Blue fields on upper surfaces; national markings on the fin and behind the cockpit; serial in Arabic characters applied in black on the fin, and repeated in Burmese characters of each side of the cockard: 27+09/2709. K-8: White over, red under; wings in white with red wingtips, rudder checkered in yellow and black, black serials on the fin, repated large around the national marking on the rear fuselage: 39+07 (Flying School). Modernization Programme In the early 1990s, The Burmese Air Force upgraded its facilities and introduced two new Air Base headquarters and existing Air Base headquarterss were renamed. It also significantly upgraded its radar and electronic warfare facilities. Consequently, Israel was contracted to refurbish and upgrade all the surviving 36 F-7s and FT-7s: these were to get the Elta EL/M-2032 air-to-air radar, Rafael Python Mk. III and even Litening laser-designator pods. The same equipment was then installed on the two-seater FT-7 fighter trainers as well. In a related deal, Israel delivered to Myanmar at least one consignment of laser-guided bombs, but no deliveries of any other (except mentioned) weapons are known. Since the Elbit contract was won in 1997, the air force has acquired at least one more squadron of F-7 and FT-7 aircraft from China, but these were not upgraded.
  2. I got fragged once by my wingman with bombs. We were Tornado GR1s doing an airfield strike in a NATO Fighters campaign. Target was the runway so a few miles from target I tell my wingie to hit my target and then roll away from him so I can make a run down the centreline with my 1,000 pounders while he comes in perpendicular to drop his stick of bombs across the runway. To cut a long story short, I'm running in low and fast and just getting ready to pickle when my plane blows up! It was only when reading the debrief that I found out that I got killed by my own guy. And so ended the first mission of my campaign!
  3. Don't know what more I can add here, but at least I got the continent right! :)
  4. I believe that an Indo-Pakistan terrain and campaign are WIP. Not sure how far along they are. More interestingly, the default Desert map is actually the west coast of Southern Africa (Namibia, Botswana?) rotated 180 degrees (I think). Now if that could be 'put right' we'd have a new real world terrain to play with.
  5. Just voted. Got them all: SF:P1, SFG, WOV, WOE and FE. Looking forward to the new one too!
  6. I was thinking more about the C-130 because those could now be officially added to WOV & WOE and their campaigns, with appropriate skins (and yes I know that there are plenty out there). Re. a name for the new sim, remember how everyone thought the Stealth fighter would be the F-19 as that was the next in the sequence, and then the USAF went back to an earlier sequence and called it the F-117? Well, how about Middle East Air War - MEAW (following on from PAW & EAW)? And it sounds like the noise I used to (still?) make flying my toy planes! Also, TK didn't follow the 'Wings Over...' sequence with FE did he?
  7. I take it that with the F-16 being included, TK has got over his difficulties with Lockheed? Definitely looking forward to this one....
  8. ALARM anti radar missiles would be nice too.
  9. Shana Tova guys.
  10. Can I or anyone else assist in getting them up? A Red Flag campaign with the Aggressor F-16s already out there would be nice possibility.
  11. I seem to remember wppsgt was working on some of these before he left for pastures new. Did they ever get finished?
  12. List updated for X Ray's IAI-27 Killer mod of the Su-27.
  13. I'll second that. I don't like posting in the file announcement threads unless it's a problem with a mod, so this is a great opportunity to thank scrapper and you too Baltika for bringing some great WW2 action to SF. Maybe TK will take note and bring out a WW2 version at some point so that these campaigns and all the planes, skins, tanks etc have a natural home?
  14. Er, did you check out my ongoing thread? http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=19806 I do need to update it for the IAI 27 fictional Israeli Flanker
  15. They are at Major Lee's site: http://www.majorleesaerodrome.net/
  16. That's not going to make a difference. If the aircraft has a set loadout in it's loadout.ini then that is what it will use in a mission if the ai is flying it. You can only change your's and your flight's weapons from inside the game. If you want the ai flights (whether they are friendly or enemy) to carry dumb bombs on strike missions so that they actually drop something then you will need to mod the loadout.ini of the individual planes. If you're then flying those planes at a later date and want something more exotic to blast the bad guys with, you can always do that from the hangar screen. Hope that helps.
  17. Never did get the Wingman books, I don't remember seeing them in the UK, but after 20 years I'm currently re-reading Thunder Alley, also by Mack Maloney, and intend to follow it with a re-read of it's sequel War Heaven. I'd call them a mixture of Top Gun/Iron Eagle/Rambo/X Files with plenty of dogfight action - just right for a Strike Fighters fan! The hero is called Ryder Long - does anyone know if he featured in any of Maloney's other books? BTW, the first chapter of War Heaven is set on a movie lot where they're making a movie about a mysterious pilot flying an F-16XL over a post apocalyptic landscape against loads of Russian planes, helos etc. How cool is that!
  18. Hasegawa made a set of Japanese weapons for their model kit ranges in both 1/72 and 1/48 http://www.hasegawa-model.co.jp/e-w/ITEMLIST/wep.htm
  19. Thanks for the reply and the permission fng. Here's what I did : 1 Copy contents of EAWEuro folder into each season folder (DO NOT overwrite) 2 Rename season folder to EAWEuroAutumn, EAWEuroSummer etc 3 Rename .ini, .HFD and .tfd files from EAWEuro to (for example) EAWEuroAutumn.ini, EAWEuroAutumn.HFD, EAWEuroAutumn.td 4 Add this line to the EAWEuroAutumn.ini CatFile=..\Desert\Desert.cat 5 Delete EAWEuro cat file from the folder 6 Delete setup batch files from the folder 7 Move EAWEuroAutumn etc into Terrain folder I don't know anything about setting up batch files, so I'll zip up the folders and upload. Then the end users just have to extract to their Terrain folder and go fly. This is what Kevin posted over at SimHQ back in February I "think" it's a missing line on the texture list/type/whatever.. it's in the terrain's data ini look for this line: SolidObjectTexture=TEROBJECT_BUILDINGS_euro.BMP try adding it to those that look like it's missing (probably some of the coast/river tiles. The items will look something like this: [Texture006] Filename=BNCoast2_180.BMP HasWater=0 HeightMap=BNCoast2_180_hm.BMP HeightMapScale=50.000000 Color=0.314850,0.335803,0.226161 SolidObjectTexture= AlphaObjectTexture= Try that and see if it works; I fixed some missing pier/bridge textures in Korea that way. I'll have a bash at this over the weekend I hope.
  20. Got it sorted last night. Thanks for the assist fng. There was a bit more to it than you thought. I'll post full details when I get home. I want to check some things re. compatabitlity with the other 3rd Wire games and sort out the issue with the white T's in the rivers (jetties?) - there's a post over at SimHQ that details how to correct it. After that, would it be OK to upload the terrains here either as a pack or separately as whatever version it's now up to (1.8?)? All the original readme's can be included (maybe in a folder within the individual season folders) and full credit will be given to those that have gone before.
  21. I'm using this terrain in my SFGWWIII install, but instead of the desktop shortcuts that come with it I'd like to be able to switch between the different seasonal terrains from the single mission screen like with any other terrain. What do I need to do in the terrain folder to get this to work? Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks
  22. This might help: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showt...mp;hl=one+pilot CL - As far as I know the Shiloh was fictional, and I don't think it ever mentions the squadron. Ditto with The Intruders, I don't recall it mentioning the carrier or squadron that Jake flew with the Marines. I know that Stephen Coonts once wrote that he tries not to use real world stuff too much as he got his fingers burned with one of his books when he had an attempted assasination on President Bush Sr and had Dan Quayle step in to take over (Under Seige)
  23. Looks great, as do the other WIPs on the Marcfighters site: http://marcfighters.combatace.com/Projects.htm
  24. List updated for Mannie's name for the F-16XL and also for the Mirage Factory WIP F-16s and RF-4E
