The Double D's
Slartibartfast replied to hgbn's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
G´day again... 2 A-4G Rockets Rockeyes and 2 Aim-9B´s the last ones why dont ask me... Well after that taster... straight in to do some ground work... me and my wingie where tasked with Flak Suppression... Not my favourite I will admit but hey someone has to do it might as well get on with it and enjoy it... Anyways take off and form up which was nice and smooth nice clear skies with not a lot to worry about. The advantage on the roll in was we had a hill to cover our approach... Climb up and dive over 3 miles downstream hit the guns and out... Oh the best laid plans and all that... coasted in at 500ft staying out of the way of Mr SAM... this was followed by some screaming round the mountains... with my wingie singing "She´ll be coming round the mountains when she comes Yeeehaaaa..." Anyway shortly after this we realised we where now a 4 ship!!! Now how did that happen??? The glint of silver gave them away they where Mig-21s... They where looking good I will say with the red flash down the fuselage... The second of the pair dropped back and fired an Atoll at me which I evaded easily and my wingman took exception by dropping his air to ground ordnance and taking off after the Mig-21 still singing his head off... Thus the Migs distracted allowed me to get back to job in hand and I screamed over the last mountain 500knots 500ft and prepared to drop my rockeyes followed by a follow up with rockets and guns... rockeyes came off silencing a twin 23mm and a large calibre gun all the while there was smaller tracers flying about... away I screamed round another mountain and to attack from a different direction only one problem I was up against 3 multi barrelled guns and a couple of large calibre guns hey ho... in we go... Went in firing my rockets hitting a everything else but the guns who hit me a few times but the jet was still flying no red lights up and over and unleash the last of my rockets killing a big gun and got hit again by the small guns as I silenced one of the smaller guns... My wingman was on his way home so I decided to follow out of ammo and with a shot up bird... when one of the earlier Migs came to play only one thing for it take him on a tour of the mountains at low level and high speed. He got the message and went home, I couldnt turn fast enough to fire a Sidewinder so I brought them back to the boat... 20 holes in my Jet!!! from 14.5mm and 23mm Oh and the boss thought it might be a good idea to get me a medal... One times Distingushed Service Cross and they pay me to do this I am trying to work out who gets the better deal!!! -

The Double D's
Slartibartfast replied to hgbn's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
G´day Bruces and Sheilas, Well its a new campaign now that I have retrograded back to SFG/WOE as my laptop has some problems with SF2 e.g. not enough room on the hard drive... So I have decided on a Campaign with a Difference I am using the rather interesting but nevertheless excellent Timor Mod from A-Team Skunkworks... Pilot is Bruce "Bush" Arnold RAN flying A-4Gs of HMAS Melbourne 805 Squadron 1975. Midshipman Bruce has been welcomed aboard the old Girl. After my first Carrier Quals we had been at see about a week when we where advised that Timor had been invaded and that we along with others of course where to go to her aid. The enemy was Indonesia who had a formidable array of weapons to throw at us from Badger bombers to Mig-21 fighters along with SAM´s. Anyway the Admiral advised that from this date on we would have a 4 ship cap above us at all times. I drew the lunch time slot and dutifully took off about 45 minutes into the flight we where advised that we had 2 inbounds at 25000ft doing 320knots... We where directed to intercept and as you could imagine 100 miles to intercept wondering what you may come up against. Our targets turned out to be a pair of Badger bombers who as soon as we came within one mile opened fire on us which could have ruined my day as I was the unlucky one to do the close inspection and I was just reaching down for my camera to photo them for the int boys!!! Instead I switched the Master Arm on and fired my guns as the 2 sidewinders would have taken too much time to heat up so to speak... I got lucky hitting the lead Badger with 20mm and watching it then tumble from the sky... the other Badger was lucky we all fired at it from long range with Sidewinders as the Badger was spewing out 23mm everywhere... not safe to get within a mile I was thinking... Anyway after the Sidewinders where fired we where ordered back to base as all of us where near bingo fuel. So here I am a shiny thing and I am the only one with a kill!! Turns out the other Badger was intercepted by the RAAF in their go faster jets Mirage III to everyone else... So looks like its going to get warm out here East of Timor... -

Harpoon Commanders Edition...
Slartibartfast replied to Slartibartfast's topic in Naval Combat Information Center
Okay I have been playing this for about 2 weeks now and its just as good as I remembered... Plus Holds a whole lot of Units Land Sea Air... dont ask how many I havn´t counted them and I dont plan too as you can also create your own units !!! There are the latest ships as well as ships from the Vietnam era... Played with the mission editor and oh boy you could have lots of fun with this... China and Russia take on the entire Pacific no problem... 4 US CVBG´s fully loaded and looking for trouble no problems... Raid on Kamchetka no problems... you want land units M1A1´s fighting T-72´s with support from ships off shore yeah we can do that... for a Naval Warfare game its straightforward point and click and with the addition of the Pacific you get a whole lot more fun... Some of the Scenarios are best played when you have a few hours spare oh and your brain is in first line thinking mode... Negatives The AI isn´t too brilliant sometimes but it does try... but saying that that sometimes comes down to whoever programmed the Scenario... Basic Graphics... Anyone who has any relevant questions let me know and I will answer them as best I can... -
Interesting find I think this will be worth a good look... I will post my comments when I have had some time on it...

Slartibartfast replied to ThePlainsman's topic in WWI Flight Sim Discussion
Me I have voted OFF simple because it doesnt have the nasty idea of having to be online all the time that ROF does though that may have changed now... Also I vote OFF for its immersion and the dedicated work done by its creators... and I am glad that I wen through everything to get it... Also because I enjoy it so much... -

Me I have the latest X3 Terran Conflict modded to the nines... and it rocks space trading with attitude when you have a carrier with nearly 100 fighters in support with destroyers and support... leaves for epic space battles... Best fight I had was 5 destroyers with about 40 figthers 8 corvettes vs a whole mess of Xenon bad guys it sure made my PC work that night Saying that David Brabens been working on a new Elite for about a decade if it ever meets the light of day...
