  1. Any comments from your experience flying against SA-14 gentlemen?
  2. Glad to see some feedback posted. From your comments I feel that you enjoy that mod. @yakarov79 This is a well known issue... Unfortunately gunner can not distinguish between various types of targets. They only fire against every target the missile can track when in range... I wanted to make the system able to launch at longer ranges as there are verified Strela-2 kills against low speed aircrafts flying at 10,000 ft (3000 meters). But increasing the maximum launch range, the target can avoid the missile easier and hit probability decreases dramatically. So we need a good balance between launch range and hit probability. For the time being you can reduce max launch range to 2 km. I think this value is the best we can use. @Nightshade/PR Strela-2 is very effective against Skyhawk. IDF actually lost some Skyhawks from SA-7 missiles between 1969-73. @Stratos As in real life, this system (as every MANPADS) is a nightmare for choppers. Deploy flares as long as you operate within the engagement range. However during testing I have experienced a weird issue... Choppers had higher survival ratio (when hit) compared with aircrafts. For some reason many missiles were hitting the tail rotor without causing significant damage. There were cases when choppers had been hit 2 or 3 times and they were still flyable. Have you experienced something similar? @Gepard Yes... flying very fast and dropping flares are the safest ways to deal with SA-7 since its IR seeker was not designed to counter flares.
  3. Ok guys it's almost 2 years since Strela-2 mod was released. I just wanted to know if there is some feedback out there from players who flew missions in which this mod saw some action. I'm looking forward to receive your feedback.
  4. @strahi New Galeb and Jastreb models planning?
  5. You can always combine different mods as long as the contents of each mod do not conflict each other. Take a look on both mods and read carefully the read me files. Stary's HR tiles can replace only stock tiles if I remember correct. That means that if Wrench has put additional tiles then these tiles will be displayed along with Stary's HR tiles (resulting in two different tilesets being displayed in game). Also terrain_data.ini is of critical importance. If every mod has its own, then you must be able to choose which one must be used according to how you want to combine these two mods.
  6. Can't see visual difference between bmp and jpeg with maximum settings. If you want to decrease the total size then jpeg is the choice.
  7. Rheinmetall 20mm... Early 80s over Ovamboland...
  8. During a recon mission, light flak caused damage at landing gear... Right wheel was damaged. Luckily the pilot landed safely with right wheel destroyed... Things like this can happen when you underestimate AAAs.
  9. I think that you should also increase the fuze distances in order to simulate the hit but not kill situation. Almost 100% of stock missiles kill an aircraft when impact.
  10. An interesting detail about stealth technology concept in general is that back in 1962 the Soviet mathematician Petr Ufimtsev published his research about the scattering of electromagnetic waves from two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects. At the time his research was considered to be of no significant military or economic value. A stealth engineer at Lockheed, Denys Overholser, had read the publication and realized that Ufimtsev had created the mathematical theory and tools to do finite analysis of radar reflection. This discovery inspired and had a role in the design of the first true stealth aircraft, the Lockheed F-117. Northrop also used Ufimtsev's work to program super computers to predict the radar reflection of the B-2 bomber. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petr_Ufimtsev
  11. @streakeagle Excuse me but it was just a general conclusion I have made after so many years of flying in SF2. Yes... there are few cases like AIM-9B or Shafrir-2 where in game performance comes close to real life. Concerning AIM-7E wikipedia states a Pk of less than 10% in Vietnam. In SF2 I usually get one kill out of 4-5 shots against easy targets with AIM-7E. Later Sparrow versions such as 7F or 7M seem to have far superior performance. Everytime these missiles are fired and the target can not jam or deploy chaff, then usually it's a kill. I get at least 3 kills out of 4 shots with 7F (Pk=0.75) compared with the 0.55-0.59 which wikipedia states for 7M which is actually better than 7F. I don't know what other users experience with Sparrow but in my experience in SF2 the missile seems to be much superior than the real one. I agree that TK made some things easier for the blue side player and not only speaking about air to air missiles. Stock SAMs are quite ineffective compared with what they can actually do. @Crusader So, if I have understood correctly, if a missile has Seeker Gimbal Limits +/- 40 then FOV is 40*2 = 80 ?
  12. I always considered air to air missiles of the game (both blue and red side) as hyper effective. Short range IR missiles can be launched from long distances, from very wide angles and sometimes their kinetic energy is quite superior. I think that this project is badly needed.

  14. Congratulations guys! Keep up the good work!
  15. I guess that happens only when these air defenses fire from fortified positions like this one: This is the only case when I have experienced what you described. There were many cases of AAAs or MANPADS which malfunctioned during launch but only when they were "protected" by infrastructure like that. Well... it seems that the game engine can not understand that the ground based rounds/missiles can hit the fortification if the shoot angle is below the fortification height. But I guess that's normal... stock game does not feature "protection" for air defenses.
  16. Good news... Interestingly it was South Africa (and not France) who requested a mobile SAM system back in the 60s. Finally South Africa paid 85% of the development cost with the system being operational first with South African Armed Forces in 1971. 19. I don't know if TODs from EAW can be imported to SF2. EAW used a file format with the extension .TER for each tile. I don't know if this .TER includes trees, buildings etc.
  20. Yes it's easy This is a tileset I use for an upcoming terrain.
