  1. 21 years ago on March 27, 1999 A formation of 4 F-117As is about to take off for another strike mission near Belgrade... That night escort jammers EA-6B were grounded due to bad weather... So the Nighthawks had to rely exclusively on their stealth characteristics... F-117As were basically following the very same routes... The 3rd Battalion of the 250th Air Defense Missile Brigade managed to acquire and track the "Vega-31"... At about 8:15 pm local time, with a range of about 8 miles 2 V-601P missiles were launched... The first one passed very close but didn't detonate... and the second gets very close... The second missile detonates causing significant damage to the aircraft and causing it to tumble out of control... The aircraft crushed near the village of Budanovci... The shotdown of "Vega-31" was the first and only verified combat kill of a stelath aircraft and interestingly that kill was achieved with outdated 60s era surface to air missiles.
  2. I'm not sure if this is the only War Thunder topic but I was very curious to see if there other members here enjoy playing this game. I have tried WoT long time ago but I don't like the game (battle) interface. I feel its quite arcade. I agree with 76.IAP that WoT is more tactical compared with WT. For guys who enjoy playing ground forces games/sims I think WT is a must with countless vehicles dating from the 1930's up to modern ones. The player can select different vehicle types such as light/medium/heavy tanks, tank destroyers and anti-aircraft vehicles and even anti-tank missile vehicles on the higher ranks. It really impresses me that last post for WT was back in 2014... Any other WT fans here?
  3. Photoreal UK I guess... https://combatace.com/files/file/16274-photo-real-uk-terrain-v2/
  4. Athens, Greece here and as acesfakia said almost everything is closed. Super markets, pharamacies, gas stations and take away shops mostly work. Also many employees were encouraged to work from home if possible. Many people I know work from home these days. As of now, 387 have been verified as virus carriers and 5 people have died. In general majority of people have understood how critical the situation is. Personally, I am afraid a bit more cause I work on a medical center as radiographer and apart from some critical or emergency exams, there are some people who come for their annual check up ignoring guidelines for public health. Fortunatelly all these irresponsible people are minority. Take care.
  5. FAH Super Mysteres were involved in numerous border skirmishes with Sandinista Nicaragua SAAF Canberra during operation Protea
  6. Here are some pics from a conflict that as far as I remember I haven't seen any related mods about it: On October 1981 during Western Sahara War, Polisario fought against Moroccan forces to take control of the small town of Guelta Zemmur. Moroccan Air Force Mirage F1CH supported ground forces. Polisario had acquired heavy armament including 2K12 Kub (SA-6) air defense system. Polisario forces placed a single SA-6 battery in the area to protect rebels from Mooccan aircrafts. On the afternoon the SA-6 radar, 1S91 Surn acquired a Mirage F1CH that was approaching the area and started tracking it. Launch! Pilot tried to evade the missile deploying chaff... but it was not enough
  7. Seriously now, do these lines work? I mean this is the only modification required to rearm and reload ammo without ending the mission?
  8. Enhanced SAM trails effect indeed improves the stock effect but still lacks the sustainer exhaust fumes. At least in my SAM mods (SA-3, SA-6, SA-7 and SA-14) I use a pretty realistic effect which will make SAMs visible from a long distance. Avoiding these SAMs is an another subject.
  9. I guess there are certain procedures before a SAM operator pushes the button. Especially during 70s and 80s when NATO and Warsaw Pact operated a large number of Nike-Hercules, HAWKs, SA-2s, SA-3s, SA-5s etc, I can not imagine that all these dense SAM networks were operated without strict safety procedures. However things get more difficult on areas with an ongoing conflict. I guess tracking an aircraft on elevation, azimuth and range can give important information concerning its flight. Any radar or SAM operators around to share their knowledge?
  10. View File SA-14 Gremlin / 9K34 Strela-3 MANPADS Pack SF2 SA-14 Gremlin / 9K34 Strela-3 MANPADS Pack 1.0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This pack features the SA-14 Gremlin. It is a man-portable, shoulder-fired, low-altitude, infrared guided surface-to-air missile system (MANPADS) developed as a response to the limited performance of the earlier SA-7 Grail. The missile was largely based on the earlier Strela-2 and thus development proceeded rapidly. The most significant change over the Strela-2 was the introduction of an all-new infra-red homing seeker head. The new seeker worked on FM modulation (con-scan) principle, which is less vulnerable to jamming and decoy flares than the earlier AM (spin-scan) seekers, which were easily fooled by flares and even the most primitive infrared jammers. The new seeker also introduced detector element cooling in the form of a pressurized nitrogen bottle attached to the launcher. The effect of cooling was to expand the seeker's lead sulphide detector element's sensitivity range to longer wavelengths (slightly over 4 µm as opposed to 2.8 µm of uncooled PbS elements). In practice this made possible the tracking of cooler targets over longer ranges, and enabled forward-hemisphere engagement of jets under favourable circumstances. The seeker also had better tracking rate, enabling the missile to track maneuvering of fast and approaching targets. A negative side effect from the aforementioned improvements was increased missile weight, which caused a slight decrease in the kinematic performance compared with Strela-2M (SA-7B). Against relatively slow, low-altitude battlefield air threats the overall effectiveness was much improved. The new system was accepted into service in 1974. Strela-3 missiles have been exported to over 30 countries. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Known issues: - System has limited all aspect capability mostly against slow, low-altitude targets. - Helicopters have higher survival rate per hit because in some cases missiles hit the tail rotor without causing significant damage. I guess this is another game engine characteristic. - Low altitude (lower than 500 meters) performance is downgraded for current missile values. By increasing noise rejection the missile becomes capable of hitting targets in lower altitude but at the same time the single shot hit/kill probability is being increased to an unrealistic level. - Fuze distances are longer compared with the actual lethal and damage radius of the system. In SF2 world the real high explosive warhead quantity is big enough to destroy a fighter size target even in 10 meters! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As always open readme.txt first to see installation instructions and credits. Lot of research and hard work was made to make this SAM as realistic as possible. More than 2000 launches took place during testing! 12. SA-14 Gremlin MANPADS will be available within the next few days... Happy new year!
  13. These lines are taken from Mirage F-1C (81) data (F-1C_81_DATA): ... // Crew --------------------------------------------------------- [Pilot] SystemType=PILOT_COCKPIT PilotModelName=Ada_MF1C Position=0.0,3.80,0.63 SeatModelName=MK GW5 SeatPosition=0.00,3.78,0.695 MinExtentPosition=-0.25, 5.91,-0.215 MaxExtentPosition= 0.25, 6.99, 0.92 CanopyNodeName=Canopy CanopyAnimationID=7 ... The bold line is what you need to look at. The pilot model which is used for F-1C_81 is the Ada_MF1C which must be located at ...\Objects\Pilots. So, you open the aircraft_type_data.ini and you modify the PilotModelName=. Therefore you can replace the current pilot model with another one.
  14. Apart from what Yakarov says, I guess that since all ground objects (SAMs included) are classified as ground infrastructure (SAM_RADAR, STATIC_SAM, STATIC_AAA, etc) they can not be player usable, that's how game's engine is made. It was developed to control aircrafts not ground objects or ships. If we had the source code and a good programmer maybe... Edit: Merry Christmas to everyone!
  15. The overall design shows that initially it was built mostly for PVO needs, which means that the aircraft should take off, guided by GCI stations accelerating and climbing very fast reaching the intercept area in short time and then use BVR missiles to attack the target. Later versions (ML, MLA, MLD) were more maneuverable but still inferior to F-15, F-16.
  16. VVS Mig-23M found a target flying at high altitude and fired a single AA-7A Apex missile. The enemy F-4E tries to evade the missile but at high altitude its maneuverability is limited... AA-7A hit and destroyed the target
  17. If the goal of 25k is not reached, then what? In the page, there's nothing about returning money back in case the goal is not achieved. He should make a list of the features included on the possible new update. As many guys said, current SF2 runs fine on windows 10 and also new content can be made by modders. On the other hand he could dramatically improve current game by adding new features such as: - multiplayer, which is something that community always wanted, - more realistic Al behavior, - air to ground radar mode. It's extremely easy just pushing E and locking onto a ground target and then waiting for the AG missile to be within range. - more realistic radar environment. Aircraft and ground radars should be capable of tracking not only cruise missiles but all types of missiles depending on their RCS. - introducing anti-ARM capability. A ground radar station should have the ability to detect an incoming ARM and shut down in time making the ARM go ballistic. - air to air refuel, - fixing current bugs I'm not into software developing, so I don't know how much money are needed to make all these things happen but I think 25k can not be reached in two weeks especially in 2019 when SF2 players are much fewer. But again there's nothing concerning what will be included.
