  1. 3D models require 3DS Studio max 2009 to build and export into game. as far as i understand newer versions will not work. as for skinning and decalling any photoshop program will work. i've been using Gimp to edit skins and make decals for last two years now just getting photoshop for school this fall. and ini edits are very simply done in Notepad. there is a thread by FastCargo about making 3d models in Blender but you still have to know someone with Studio Max 2009 and ask them nicely. with the right tools tho skies the limit. heck theres even a mod in Gen 1 of Snoopy on his doghouse.
  2. ok cool. my interest is mainly in the squadrons themselves at the moment. as i said earlier in this thread one of my criteria is that the sqquadrons flew a stock in game aircraft somewhere in its history. as for the placeholder, credit there goes to HomeFries. i was bangin my head on a wall everytime a new squadronlist came out as my Phantom mod is heavily dependent on that list. last update i only had to change 3 entries and 9 decals not the usual 75-90. it is a great tip, place holder itself should get entered into the KB i think.
  3. just to let you guys that are following know, i am not adapting the universal squadronlist to the newly released NF5. like the Falklands mod it is a seperate install (not to mix with other mods) and has plenty of placeholders to offset future TW expansion. however with eburgers permission i may add a couple of units from it to mine. however they will not be compatible. so far it looks good but still DL'ing and unzipping folders

  5. ya didn't go with Gripen? honestly think that would be best choice overall for a smaller air force right now. and i can see them zoomin 50 ft off the deck better than a Viper for some reason.....

  7. ok, No. 3 and 6 are F-2 operators, their version of the F-16. previous seems tobe WW2. 201-204 are F-15 units that also used to operate F-104s. prob Sabres too but didnt peek back that far. 601 is their E-2 squadron. not sure on that one as i want the room in case but its not a flat no. the E-2s are a good candidate for squadron decals, but there are many other iron dropping squadrons that will come first. should i presume the Kokutai's to be what-if?
  8. let me look em up. my main considerations for adding are 1. tactical units 2. historical units without double dipping (no 7th FBS, TFS, FIS etc) 3. i prefer to use squadrons that flew planes that are in game. not a concrete rule but one that i try to stick to. the Hakotais should be fine, the kokutais likely not and the test unit could be done as a seperate skin with specific decals, unless you were throwing them into a campaign. don't get me wrong i appreciate suggestions on units, but unlike Dave told me, i do over think this cause eventually i will run out of room. however for future mods and personal projects i am leaving the 900-999 block open. will have word on what i add after dinner, round bout 4 hours.

Sherriff, i have an updated squadronlist for you here. the numbers you used are now being used by new additions from the latest DLC. this list has over a hundred placeholder from stock units to the start of the non stocks. also for the name in the future Name=xxxCAF works best. i have that fixed for you in this. so you dont have to look the new numbers are 409Sqn/788, 410/796, 416/822, and 425/823. if you want to use the F-4SqTailL/R entries just number by the squadron and all should work. also dunno how much historical research you did on the squadrons but 410 flew Vampires , 409, 416 and 425 Voodoos and Canucks. all eventually flew or fly Hornets. just a lil fact i dug up while fixing.

  12. ok here ya go. had added ARDU but went ahead and pulled it back. special units like that are likely best done as a specific skin. Dhimar will be easier just gonna use Spinners decal pack and create sqaudrons. plus the unit markings will already be there just need renamed for use. Norway is proving a lil more difficult to match up, not much info in English sources. prob pour thru JonathanRL's campaigns. he didnt use a squadronlist but has a comprehensive campaigns going in his TSF mod. current is not so much the issue its the historical thats bein difficult.
  13. though many cry out against leaving em up i use the radar in the corner and arrows as a "virtual RIO". since most of my time is spet in the Phantom, a Phantom driver would have a RIOs help calling all this out. call it lazy if you will i just call it my second set of eyes...... just think of Goose sayin start doin some of that pilot $hit next time you follow the arrow!
  14. ok on ARDU. they would be possible in a Aussie v Indonesia title fight defending the home turf, but again for the most part i prefer doing tactical units. of course look at TK throwing VX-4 in the mix! not much change on the list right this second just delete the squadron for 616. its a duplicate for 194th FIS thanks to the latest DLC. its not everywhere yet but will be in the next patch so no need for it in the later blocks. in between classes today gonna see what most popular campaign mods are and match up units on those. Falklands i know i can leave off due to its set up it is a seperate install completely. also gotta add Norwegian and some Dhimari squadrons. but with converting major mod squadronlists and leaving open space at the end i think thatll help make it an acceptable universal list. that and almost every Phantom user known to the USAF!

  16. Tu-16 w/ 20mm turrets for use against smugglers! and no fair on the Atlantique. i never got it DL'd before it was yanked......... anyone up for a MH-64 SeaApache? similar in role to the MH-68 with FLIR and 50 cal pod. just a little more up gunned!
  17. give it run after homework (never thought i'd have to say that after high school!). history says they started as the 1st Air Performance Unit, but UnitName is seeming tempermental with the danes, and the Ozzies are xRAAF. gotta look up other Aussie units to add in that block esp with Mirage III and F-4E in play by them. Canberra too.
  18. he does but with squddrons on skin. my original F-4 skin pack has Sundowners skins (all 4 major schemes) blanked out but i have to update the decals and squadronlist. i'm waiting to complete my everybody squadron list befor updating that pack. personally i like using stock where i can and where it doesn't frustrate me too much. i'll use DLC skin in my install but rerelease my Sundowner based pack in two weeks time. shorter two weeks not longer.

  20. oh i know that STORM. my list adds on after the stock. i also am addin stuff that is strictly nonstock (like A-3 units) in Vietnam A&G Exp and NF4+ as add on at the end (900-999) but folks that flew stock planes are in the meat of the list (550-899). of course means i hafta DL all the majore campaigns to bounce em offa each other..........(grumbles off to his hole) also again i have roughly 150 place holders for TW expansion room. less headache for patches. there is a 90% complete one in the realism thread right now, a slight more finished one to be released with my DLC 21 mod later this week. and all the USAF iron droppers i could think of in block 600-699
  21. that or the classic advise.... be as sure as you can of your target before shooting. if your working w/o any kind of HUD then you're probably working in the earlier years with at most AIM-9B and more likely guns or rockets. do what Erich Hartmann did, get close enough the enemy is filling your windscreen. when he's that close ya can't fail to know who your shooting!
  22. yeah, need some of what that guys on. i have been havin trouble sleepin lately...... WE MISS YOU REDCROWN GIRL!!!!!!! and i agree with Crusader and Svetlin, SF2 has takin up the place of my plastic kit work. and i get to nuke things with em when i'm done. and (so long as i remember to back up) they are much more portable in a move than 72d or 48th scale!
