We computer gamers forget the reason for -23 and -17 swing wing was to improve airfield performance so airbases would not have to be overly large and even more vulnerable. In that regard, even "early" -23 did okay compared to if it had, say, a fixed tailed delta wing. Granted, airfield performance is not "fun" dogfighting, but I thought I'd toss it out anyway.

Yes it does, at least for SF1. SF2+ may have newer avionics features that I don't know how they work. I have SF on D: drive. Also on D: drive are two folders called A and AA. Folder A is for cockpits. Folder AA is for loading bmps. In folder A, I have sub-folders for all aircraft that have unique aspects to their cockpit. For example, MiG-15, MiG-17F, MiG-19S, and SM-12 all use the same pit (mutated F-86Dora pit by DogSabreTeam). In these MiGs' cockpit.ini's and avionics.ini's, I point them all to D:\ A \ MiG-15 \ Cockpit. You MUST also point everything in AVIONICS to the new folder. Same with MiG-17PF, MiG-17PFU, MiG-19P, and MiG-19PM. All are directed to MiG-17PF cockpit sub-folder in folder A which uses the same Dora pit except with the radar showing. You may run into issues of very *slight* differences required between aircraft types. I'd like to change the fuel guage to show more fuel in MiG-19 than MiG-15. But that would require another cockpit sub-folder in A. Its a tossup and I may do that. For loading screens, I point each aircraft to AA....example: LoadingScreen= D: \ AA \ F-106A.bmp In the AA folder, there are just a ton of bmp pictures. No sub folders. I do this to make SF game folder as small as possible. I backup my stuff alot, and many of you will giggle at me for doing so until you join The List , and its fast to backup a small SF game if I don't add loading screens and cockpits in a while. Basically, splitting the game up like this allows selective backups of major changes. My aircraft have no Cockpit folders. At anytime I can change it all back if for some reason it does not work out in the long run, but I do like the small game size this allows now.

CPU, I use Athalon II X2 at 65 watts, and that's a year old now. New 45 watt models are coming soon, I think. Video, I have HD 4550 at what, 10 watts lol? They have "green" hard drives that are a bit slow but...well..."green." For desktop durability, use 2.5 inch "laptop" drives -- SATA only. I just got a half dozen 2.5" 40GB SATA drives for fairly cheap to use as multiple independent backups for my desktop stuff.

Thanks ezlead!! Good stuff Never seen anything I couldn't figure out. One turned out to be NAVY test flasher in geo orbit, the other I eventually traced to either rocket plume or chemical plume in very low orbit. But pilot and radar operator stories pull alot of weight for me. Its said the Soviet air forces had mind blowing UFO experiences, and Russians aren't as afraid of the topic as we are. Not sure. ...just don't report an *airplane* flying far above your ceiling. PVO pilots got transferred after 1956 for reporting airplanes. UFOs are "okay" I suppose. The bosses hated U-2s. Maybe, Old Testament~esque fallen angels, still-in-the-fold angels, or both, don't run around advertising who they are to Man. That's my take on what they are. I suppose in time they will step into the open.

Unfortunately, Enviro offers no way to tweak terrain brightness alone, as the methods available also affect lighting on other things in the game. But, think of what we are needing here. Terrain is what? Terrain is tiles, which are bmp or tga. You can brighten tiles in a photopaint type program. I've done it but takes some time if you have alot of terrain tiles. Make backup copies of tiles before doing this. **EDIT** that link is for old SF1 games, as with Patch 2008 TK has eliminated the realistic sunward sky glow, replacing it with blood red camera lens glare. That's why I'm stuck with SF1 2006 until maybe the Luthier Korea (?) sim comes out (and if its moddable). Otherwise the Old Enviro is much the same as the New Enviro.

One amazing thing I once saw on CNN, in 1994, about Rwanda. After the UN troops were told to retreat from the mass slaughter, CNN showed video of guys taking their knives and cutting up there blue berets in disgust. Wrench:: Good. Lets stay focused here. Remember, it that "new" external thing doesn't last a week, and they sometimes don't, and your old hard drive gets something happened to it, your butt is busted. Back up your butt again.

Nice, I just downloaded Core Temp 64, google it, and you can set it to start with Windows~7 and optimize taskbar to show the current cpu temp C or F on the taskbar at all times (change colour to taste for easy vis). They have a CoreTemp32 for XP I suppose. Just wish there was some way of showing the data during gameplay instead of having to tab out. There has to be a way. Doesn't FRAPS show game framerates on screen during game? Never tried fraps.

Wrench, make another backup, DVDs whatever, at least the more important stuff. I am afraid all hard drives. I am terrified of "new" hard drives until at least a few months of heavy use, at which point I become afraid of them. I tremble in fear of external drives at all times. Wrench, you will love Win~7. I use classical look, no aero baloney. Fantastic out of box. This will be a Good Thing in the long run, as long as that "new" thing works out, and/or your old drive is still usable. Its hard for us to guage since we were not there, and we post-modern TheSims players's think of single seat fighters, because our game developers do. I'd imagine the people who were there talked alot about it. You have to know the importance of watching the skies (and below) for situational awareness, using all the eyes you have, and then some if available, and then communicate it all through Triassic Period radios. Think single seat fighter wingmen and how they depend on each other for helping to watch what's going on around them during the heat -- well at least NAVY Loose Deuce wingmen. SA among professional wingmen is everything. The quote below is from a good paragraph of an interview... George Spangenberg:: At the start of that paragraph, Spangenberg says he considered the days of single seat fighters were over. At the time, he may have been right. But today, with advances in post-modern avionics and weapons, perhaps he was not right at the time anymore, as Baugher notes in his F-15 history quoted below. I'd also add the back seat "wing man" always has good comms with his pilot, assuming the intercomm between the seats works well. Did they in Vietnam era F-4s? Baugher:: The F-15's primary concept role was an attempt to mix long range BVR engagement and close dogfighting into one box. Compare with, say, dedicated small dogfighters like F-16. Things have changed even more since then, what with avionics and weapons now allowing single seat F-16 dogfighters to perform some BVR as well.
