Extract widesky.zip in youre main thirdwire directory. (WOI, WOE, WOV)
Or extract to a place of youre choise and place all the files in youre "flight" folder.
KNOWN ISSUES:
If you fly close to the overcast cloudlayer you will occasionally see some clipping issues. At least thats what I do with my ATI card.??

INSTALLATION:
Just copy all to Desert Terrain in your SF:P1 folder.
NOTES:
In order to see newly made water effects put the Textures, Effects, Densities and Resolutions to High (specially Water Quality). If you find it choppy then lower all settings gradually
until satisfied. Avoid Medium Water Quality as it produce not too
appealing look.
Thanks for all who made this Project possible, especially Gepard for providing inspiration by producing his outstanding Israel2 terrain. Also thanks to Deuces who helped as usual with TEROBJECT_BUILDINGS. This version of Tiles has no TODs with trees as those will follow in later revision.

1.Requirements - Wings Over Europe are required in order for this mod to work!!!
2. Installation.
Un-ZiP "GermanyCE" folder into terrain folder(X:\....\Wings Over Europe\Terrain) of your Wings Over Vietnam installation.
As before with my VietnamSEA repaint I offer trees and objects in separate folder to enable simpler instalation for users that either don't want it or can't take the performance hit :)
To install the trees and objects, simply copy all the files from "Objects" folder to x:\...\Wings Over Europe\Terrain\GermanyCE.
2. Overview.
The tiles are made with help of satelite imagery taken mostly from central - west Germany, mountain tiles were taken from Alps area, and shoreline tiles...well, from German coast lol. Nothing was hand drawn, all those shapes exist in nature but were violently connected together so they fit...
3. Known issues
First ofcourse it will have some errors, however the number of those is on par with default terrain if not even better, if however you do find some eye-poking errors please report them with a small image in file announcment thread.
Again same as with VietnamSEA, I didn't work much with the cities, you will notice some improvement in transition city texture but nothing dramatic, it is planned for future update though I simply didn't have time for it now and didn't want a completely functional mod sit on my HDD for maybe months at 99% completition

This is a set of new bitmaps and .TOD files for Germany map in Wings over Europe.
It's aim is to create new, realistic looking ground environment, still maintaining acceptable framerate.
Adds lot of trees in woodland areas, some new farm buildings in farmlands, powerlines along the roads, and other little features on the ground.

"Green Hell" VietnamSEA map modification

This is my second attempt in giving default map a better, rich-environment look.
This mod adds thousands of trees and bushes in the open farmlands, new, dense jungle in the mountains, little vietnamese huts (ok, not really), paddy-fields, ruins, temples, buffalos and so on.
I focused my work on variety of trees and bushes, not the buildings. City set WILL be released later.

Green Hell 2

This is version 2.0 of my Green Hell mod for WoV. Main goal of this mod is to add dense tree coverage to the Vietnam map. New in the 2.0 are the heavily populated city tiles. Most of the files from 1.0 have been remade, adjusted or added.
Quick summary:
-Three levels of detail for you to choose from.
-All new jungle graphics
-Cities, the way they should be. More or less :-)
-Objects numbers per tile vary from x2 up to x4 more than in GH.
-All foliage graphics replaced by new, better blending with the terrain textures, and in higher resolution.
-More detail added to the villages, as an attempt to create better looking settlements, but still limited to what Terrain Editor can offer.
-Generally nicer views, lower framerates ;-)

Bombing Range Terrain

This started as a post by Aladar on the SIMHQ forum and quickly turned into what I would consider a very important add-on for Strike Fighters. The difficulty in weapon delivery for this era screamed for an area for virtual pilots to practice and hone their A2G skills.
There are two versions of the terrain, one for friendly aircraft called Bombing Range and one for enemy aircraft called Red Range. Both are installed when you run the installation program. It is important to remember that only friendly aircraft such as NATO forces can be flown on the Bombing Range and only enemy aircraft such as Soviet forces may be flown on the Red Range.
The Range Terrain consists on an airfield and main range complex. A variety of targets are available for bombing. Intercept missions against a drone aircraft are available when flying the included pre-built single missions.

Enhanced Hi-res Terrain Set for Wings Over Europe

This terrain set is based on the Wings Over Europe default terrain tiles. It maintains the layout of the original terrain, and leverages many of the base textures. However, the overall color scheme, graininess, and shading of the original has been improved, along with many tweaks here and there. In addition, the tiles have been converted to 512x512 tiles, which improves some of the jagged edges and allows for some additional detail.

1: This is an update of version 2.0 to make the airfields compatible with the October 08 patch.
The other rason to make a new version is that Capun requested to remove his files from this mod. Thats pity, because his static aircrafts were a nice feature of my airfields.

Formosa Strait Terrain version 1.0

FORMOSA STRAIT TERRAIN

I.
Formosa Strait terrain is made for "Wings Over Europe" WOE.
With certain limitations you can use it in WOV, WOI and SFP1 too.
(See PS on bottom of this file.)

II.
Formosa Strait Terrain covers the island of Taiwan, a part of the coastline of the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) and the Strait between which has different names like Formosa Strait, Taiwan Strait or Taiwanhaixia. All names i use are taken from an old german atlas and it seems to be that there are a lot of different transcriptions of chinese names in german or english language.
Formosa Strait Terrain is a nearly 100% terrain, what means, that the distances are not cut down to 60% as in the GermanyCE standard terrain.Certain differences are caused by warp while converting GOTOPO30 satellite height data into WOE format.
The position of the runways should be more or less correct, their direction is not always as in reality. The airfields themself are made by using variations of WOE standard airfileds and by using the 9 airfileds i made for Deutschland terrain.

A:
1. Open file Formosa.ini
2. Look for line CatFile=..\GermanyCE\GermanyCE.cat
3. Replace this line with:
for WOV: CatFile=..\VietnamSEA\VietnamSEA.cat
for WOI: CatFile=..\IsraelME\IsraelME.cat
for SFP1: CatFile=..\Desert\Desert.cat
4. Download a WOE capable terrain replacement tileset via Internet. Such tilesets you can find at www.combatace.com
Limitations are caused by the fact, that certain objects which are standard in WOE (power plants, bridges) are not always included in WOV, WOI or SFP1.

Israel 2 terrain

Israel Terrain INSTALLATION instruction:
1.) unzip all files into your Strike Fighters folder
2.) If you use WOV open WOV folder and copy file Israel2.ini into Israel2 folder
3.) If you use WOE open WOE folder and copy file Israel2.ini into Israel2 folder
For WOE and WOE you must download a desert terrain tileset seperatly!

The first versions of Israel terrain for SFP1 were very successfull. They were downloaded in high numbers from C6, Combatace, Avsim and other sources, but i was never really satisfied with it. The reason was, that the size of Israel terrain was only 60% of reality.
With the new terrain editor tool TK offered to the community i was able to make a terrain that is nearly correct scaled. But i had to rebuild the terrain completly from the scratch.
As promised i release the new terrain now short before Christmas.
What is new?
*Completly new terrain with enlarged size. It covers now also Cyprus and Lebanon
*additional terraintiles (Canal, Mountainwoood)
*airfields with multiple runways
*new designed SAM fence along the Suez Canal
the SAM Complex west of the Bitter Lake (Osiris) i designed using a report about the big air to SAM battle in 1970 between the Israelis and the Egytians. So Osiris should be more or less historical correct. The positions of the other networkes (Ra, Isis, Sala Uhudin) are more or less fiction. I also reduced the number of SAM sites, as requested by some players.
*number of target areas is now 292 (212 in the preview, 128 in Israel v1.5)
* I include a smoothed terrain height data file in folder Israel2/Smooth. Personaly i prefer the more rough standard terrain, but if you like a smooth terrain copy file Israel2.hfd from folder Israel2/Smooth into Israel2 folder
* I included also updated Panzer files. The T-34,T-54,T-55,T-62 have now coaxial machineguns and their performance is now a little bit more real.
*The SAM Fence along the Suez Canal now consits only between 1970 - 1976. In 1977 the Egyptians changed their AD startegy from area defence to point defence.
I want to say thank you to all guys who supported Israel2 terrain with ideas, hints, files and good wishes. Thanks to Polak for the Pontons and the Pyramids, Gecko6 for the Coolingtowers, thanks to the guy who made the factory complex some years ago (I forgot his name) and of course TK for the terrain editor and the great SFP1 flight sim.

Bering Straits Terrain & Targets Upgrade

Bering Straits Terrain Upgrade for SF, WoE & WoV
This is a rebuild of Major Lee's Bering Straits Terrain from his superb !!! DBS mod.
The terrain has been fully updated to the latest standards, as needed by the 9/08-10/08 patch for SF/WoV/WoE/WoI. As it stands, it really needed very minimal editing, mostly to the targets and types inis, to remove the 'fixed static' parked aircraft, and the extraction and renaming (with some editing) of the new Desert airfield inis to allow for in-game generated parked aircraft. Some new targets and target areas have been added; mostly some small items, dressing up a few places, and the additon of US air defense batteries. The airfields have been 'cleaned up'
somewhat, but to a large extent, remain pretty much as Major Lee built them.
The mod is designed to completely replace the terrain as originally issued. Or any other variants thereof.
This is the FULL terrain, plus the 'tweeks', as seen in the DBS Total Conversion Mod, with no changes to the dogfight BUT some additions to the movements inis. The Types ini has been expanded substantually, with the additon of lots of new ground objects. As you can expect, there ARE Easter Eggs at various places on the map...you'll just have to find them for yourself...and there's a LOT of them. Water effects are active, but this should pose no problem for Vista users, in the post-patch world. Playing on the 'safe' side, I've left the instructions for commenting out the shaders in the sections below. For those that haven't patched up yet. Not that you can really see the water, what with all that ice and all...<grin>
Included are several 'new' ground objects; most of which are available in several other terrain mods I've done (basically, the NIKE batteries from SoCal) BRAND NEW Nike units, by ErikGen. New planning maps, although I've kept (ie: reused) Major Lee's US Flag and Soviet Star style icons for the airbases on both sides on PlanningMap3.
=This map is designed ONLY for use in SF/WoV and WoE.=
= It is NOT reccomended for use with WoI What with it being frozen and all=
As expected, there is a HIGHLY detailed readme -- I'd reccomend reading the document all the way through before installing; it might make you life just a bit easier. Expecially the 'General Notes and Other Nonsense' sections.

Tree Mod For WOE's GermanyCE Terrain

The .tod files contain positioning information for trees and objects for each terrain tile type. This mod will give you a much larger amount of trees to look at, as well as a higher res tree texture.

Siberian Sun

By introducing additional camera lensflares, I created a very hard and brilliant tiny sun surrounded by a large glare. In optimizing the brightness of the sun and glare, I was pushed to deeply modify much of the Enviro file more than I thought was needed. One result has been the development of a different philosphy on aircraft lighting and its relation to terrain, sky, and cirrus clouds, appropriate to early Cold War strategic operations at high altitude. Another result has been a focus on improving terrain shading at low sun elevation angles.
Included are a number of Enviro files with varying levels of changes, two grafix tga files, and instructions to get started. This is an experimental mod and will be continually developed for my own use, but with some work can be adapted to any taste for any use by anyone. I don't know where to start here, as this goes far beyond just the sun effect. I've started a thread at the ThirdWire webboard with screenshots and will try to describe what I'm doing. If any are interested, it would be helpful if you poast your changes to your Enviro system and screenshots in the ThirdWire thread.

Several topics will be covered as listed below; all of them related to each other which requires a tricky balance among them to optimize the overall environmental effect.
Sky colours.
Intense sun and large sun glare.
Terrain shadowing at low sun elevation angles.
Sun glare effect on cirrus clouds and new contrails.
Ambient lighting, and direct sun lighting and sun reflections on aircraft.
Appearance of aircraft, objects, and exhaust/weapon effects against the terrain and blue sky.
Moonlight effects on all the above.
* INSTRUCTIONS *
The project assumes the latest SF1 version (currently, v.08.30.06) and the WoV/WoE equivalents.
Extract into a seperate folder for downloads. Then copy the 3 Enviro files and the two tga files into the sim Flight folder. To select an Enviro file to test with, rename it Environmentsystem. In the game grafix options menu, Camera Lens Flares must be turned ON for the Siberian sun to work, although in each Enviro file listed below at the location of the lensflare data, there are instructions on how to turn OFF the normal camera lensflares if desired while still using the new sun effect. The included Enviro files are...
Environmentsystem-0 --- Fully modded Siberian Sun Enviro file as developed currently, with full functionality of the stock Enviro file except the old sun.
Environmentsystem-1 --- the stock ThirdWire Enviro file with only the Siberian sun added, and the ThirdWire sun taken out. The hard intensity of the Siberian sun effect is rather washed out by the bright sky colours of the stock Enviro file, so...
Environmentsystem-2 --- the above Enviro-1 file with my current changes to the sunheight environment colour blocks (...[Day], [Day1], [Twighlight2], etc...). This offers darker sky colours so allows a relatively more intense sun effect.
In the fully changed Enviro-0, I use a new star tga file (ss-Star), and added changes to the stock [stars] data block. One may easily return to the stock Star tga file or the stock star Enviro data if desired. If you are now running a modded Enviro file, re-name it Environmentsystem-sav or otherwise BACK IT UP so you still have it.

Suez 2 terrain

SUEZ 2 TERRAIN Version 2.0

Suez 2 terrain is a version of my Israel2 terrain with the borders pre 1967 Six Days War and with enhanced tilesset. The main difference between Suez 2 and Suez terrain is, that Suez 2 is now sized nearly correct, while Suez terrain size was only 60% of real. The number of target areas is increased from 94 to 346. New areas with targets are the Golan heights and the Westbank.
In Suez 2 terrain you will find Lebanon as neutral contry, Syria is holding the Golan heights, Jordan is owner of the Westbank and Egypt rules the Sinai and the Gaza strip.
The SAM fence along the Suez Canal is not installed, because it was built between 1970 and 1972. Only some point defence SAM you will face over the Sinai, close to Kairo and near Beni Suef Airbase.
Suez2 terrain is more smooth than Israel2 terrain. If you want to have the same roughness like in Israel2 terrain simply copy files Israel2.hfd into Suez2 folder and rename it into Suez2.hfd.

Enhanced Cloud Top Layer

The default overcast and inclement cloud top bitmaps in any of the Thirdwire series (SF, WoV,WoE, FE, and now WoI), always seem to lack "depth". So, this is my attempt at rectifying that issue.
Installation is quite easy. Simply extract the four bmp files contained in this zip archieve (CloudLayerTop2-CloudLayerTop5.bmp), into your sim's "Flight" folder. And that's it!
To test, simply fly above the cloud deck under either overcast or inclement weather conditions.
To remove, just delete them and the game will revert to using it's original (and protected) cloudlayertop bitmaps.

Battle of Britain terrain version 1.4

Version 1.4
After a long periode of silence i thought, that BoB terrain was dead. BoB was forgotten. But then i found the BoB Campaign at www.combatace.com and it was a great campaign for my forgotten terrain. Then the campaign builders contacted me and this was the kickstart for me to improve BoB terrain again.
- I updated some terraintiles. Mostly the cities, the villages and the airfields.
-Then i invested some time in making target areas in France. You find now industrial targets in Paris and other french towns. Some new airfields i added and i made the Port of Brest.
- The Convoys are made by Steven for his BoB Campaign. I added them in my terrain too, after a very small modification.
- there are now 229 target areas, this are 65 more as in Version 1.3.
- german fighter bases (Fliegerhorst) also got a new face.
I tested the terrain as intensive as i could and found no bugs. If you find bugs, then please contact me via PM at SIMHQ Forum or at COMBATACE Forum.
Finally i want to say thank you to all guys who supported me in building this terrain with files and hints.

Major Lee's DBS Bering Straits Terrain

This is Major Lee's Bering Straits terrain that was posted at his site before it went down. People have been asking me for this terrain. So I've decided to post it for everyone to have fun with. Any of the terrain.cat files from SFP1, WOV, WOE or WOI seem to work equally well, though the terrain was originally set up for Strike Fighters. You'll either have to add that cat file into the terrain folder or point to it in the terrain's ini file.

Cuba V2.0
Esta es una nueva version del terreno de Cuba, originalmente creado por Tonix. Los cambios en esta version son principalmente visuales, con un nuevo tileset basado en parte en el trabajo de Stary para el terreno de "Formosa". Proximamente estaran disponibles nuevos updates, incluidas campañas.
Hemos decidido cambiar el nombre a "Cuba_2011" pues ya existe
otro terreno de Cuba (OTC), para evitar el problema de que ambos se sobreescriban. Ademas, pensamos que ambos trabajos son compatibles. Uno representa Cuba en 1962, y el otro en la actualidad. Esperamos que lo disfruteis.
Para instalarlo, simplemente descomprime el archivo y lleva la carpeta "Cuba_2011" a la carpeta "Terrain".

IL2 clouds for WOV and WOI series 1

Ive been working on this mod for quite awhile and I think I have finally
got it working without any bugs or kinks you know the unusual pink or
green cloud floating around here or there on the horizon.It makes the
scattered and broken clouds look great as far as the inclement clouds they
look good from the top but,from the bottom not so much.There has always
been a problem with the bottom of inclement clouds no matter which cloud
mod you use at least that's what I have found.The CLOUD1 TARGA
file comes from the Clouds big mod for IL2 by MANYSH and has been heavily
edited by me for use in the SF 1 series by Thirdwire,I hope he approves of
the effect his file creates for this game and I greatly appreciate his
original work and thank him for it.I have forgotten where I got the
ENVIRONMENTSYSTEM ini it has been along time and so much editing ago the
author of the original has slipped my mind,so if you see your work in here
I hope you approve and I thank you.As far as impact on the FPS I haven't
experienced any loss or if I have it's barely noticeable.This mod has been
created around Cellinksy's "Widesky" Environment Mod so if your not using
it,you may want to get it.The clouds have been tested in WOV
1st series and WOI 1st series it may work in the other 1st series titles
to you'll just have to try it and see.I do not guarantee it will work in the SF 2 series.

Madasgascar Terrain and Campaign

Here is it, in all it spelndor and glory. Prepare to be amazed by the terrain. The campaign is just a small one so you all would have something to play with. It is nothing big as I have bigger plans for this little terrain.
You need:
AD's Su-17 and A-7B w/Column5 VA-93 skin.
The AV-8C by Russ with the VMA-231 skin by me.
The Mig-17 skin from Volks is included.
Just put the campaign in your campaigns folder. The win,lose,stall.txt files go in the main campaign folder of your SF install. Put the terrain in your terrain folder, make a copy of the desert.cat file and rename it to AE.cat.
Put Volks Mig-17 skin in the main Mig-17 folder and add this to the mig-17.ini
