RAF Phantom FG.2 (No.38 Group)
By Spinners
McDonnell Douglas Phantom FG.2 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1
This is a simple mod of the stock Phantom F-4B to give a 'what if' J79 powered Phantom FG.2 tactical fighter with markings for No.6, No.41 and No.54 squadrons of No.38 Group of RAF Strike Command as they might have appeared in the late 1960's but I've also included some two-colour B-type markings for you to play around with.
In theory, this should work in any 'first generation' game that has the standard F-4B LOD's. As SFG and WOV does not have the RAF Letter codes I've made some of my own in yellow and white and included them here to help avoid bare fins although there's plenty going on in fin land.
BACKSTORY
The successful first flight of the McDonnell XF4H-1 (Phantom II) on May 27th, 1958 certainly piqued the interest of both the RAF and the Royal Navy and by 1959 both were granted official 'observer status' on the project. The realisation that only two of the Royal Navy's five aircraft carriers could operate an aircraft of the XF4H-1's size (and that only after extensive modernisation) soon cooled the interest of the Senior Service but the RAF could see a promising aircraft of obvious potential across many roles and not just in their search for a Hunter replacement. By 1960 McDonnell were scheming various tactical fighter versions of the F4H-1 Phantom II with J79 engines including a minimum change version of the baseline USN F-4B to replace the Hunter and Javelin in RAF service and supplement the Lightning.
The RAF had already bore the brunt of the 1957 Defence White Paper and had then suffered the ignominy of losing the UK's nuclear deterent in the planned switch from V-Force to Polaris. Following this heavy perceived loss of status the Air Staff were so determined to get the TSR.2 that in March 1961 they volunteered to forsake the supersonic V/STOL P.1154 strike fighter and STOL AW.681 tactical transport and replace both with off the shelf purchases of American aircraft. Both projects were declared as "too technically challenging to succeed in the current fiscal situation" but the early cashing-in of both projects did ultimately save the TSR.2 which went on to survive the 1964 Budget Review and enter RAF service at the end of the 1960's.
Meanwhile, back in August 1961 the UK Government became the first export customer for McDonnell's XF4H-1 with an order for 350 aircraft consisting of 150 interceptor-fighters for RAF Fighter Command and 200 tactical fighters for RAF Germany and No.38 Group. Designated by McDonnell as the F-4K and by the RAF as Phantom F.1 and Phantom FGA.2 the first F-4K rolled off the St. Louis production line in February 1963 with a ceremonial first flight on April 1st, 1963 to coincide with the RAF's 45th birthday celebrations. These early RAF Phantoms retained the AAA-4 infrared search and tracking sensor fitted to a prominent bulge underneath the radome housing the powerful AN/APQ-72 radar and were powered by two General Electric J79-GE-8A engines each rated at 10,000lbs dry thrust and 17,000 lbs thrust with afterburner.
The Phantom FG.2 entered service with No.41 squadron at Coningsby in January 1966 and eventually equipped no less than ten RAF squadrons at home and abroad.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the PhantomFG2 folder into your Aircraft folder.
2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the PhantomFG2 into your Decals folder.

The decals are contained within the skin folder but it is essential that you have my FGR.5 installed to get the common decals (national markings and serial numbers).

RAF Phantom FGR.5 for Strike Fighters 1
By Spinners
McDonnell Douglas Phantom FGR.5 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1
This is a simple mod of the stock Phantom F-4E to give a 'what if' Phantom FGR.5 tactical fighter with markings for No.6 and No.41 squadrons of RAF Strike Command as they might have appeared in the mid-1970's.
In theory, this should work in any 'first generation' game that has the standard F-4E LOD's.
BACKSTORY
The cancellation of the Hawker P.1154 in 1964 quickly led to the adoption of the LTV F-8E(RN) Crusader for the Royal Navy to replace the Scimitar and Sea Vixen and the adoption of the McDonnell Douglas Phantom for the RAF to replace the Hunter. However, anxious to improve the UK's trade balance with the US, the UK Government insisted that the RAF's Phantoms would adopt either the Rolls Royce Spey turbofan or the Anglo-French Rolls Royce/SNECMA Sequanna turbofan then under development for the proposed Mirage IVB and advanced Mirage III aircraft. The Sequanna was quickly chosen being lighter and slimmer than the Spey and fitted the F-4 like a glove whilst producing about 1,000lbs more thrust per engine than the stock J79-GE-15 turbojet but with a lower specific fuel consumption.
First flown in 1965 and entering service with the RAF in 1966 the Phantom F.1 supplemented the Lightning interceptors of RAF Fighter Command whilst the Phantom FG.2 re-equipped many Hunter and Canberra squadrons at home and abroad. The FR.3 was a planned version of the RF-4C that failed to materialise as the RAF adopted podded recconnaisance pods but the FGR.4 was the RAF's first true multi-role version of the Phantom taking advantage of the new F-4E airframe and a more powerful Sequanna RB.390 engine developing 19,000lbs with reheat. Only 50 FGR.4's were built before production switched to the FGR.5 with Sequanna RB.392 engines, slatted wings and more advanced avionics. The FGR.5's served at home and abroad, most notably with RAF Strike Command and RAF South East Asia Command before finally being retired in 2003.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the PhantomFGR5 folder into your Aircraft folder.
2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the PhantomFGR5 into your Decals folder.

Hawker Hunter FGA.9 - 1970's Wittering Wing for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1
This is a simple decal conversion of the sublime Third Wire Hunter FGA.9 to enable you to fly a mid-1970's era Hunter from the short-lived Wittering Wing that was created to keep RAF newly graduated ground-attack pilots 'current' whilst waiting for the Jaguar to enter service.
This will only work in 'Wings Over Europe' but you can, of course, also make it work in the other Third Wire Series One games by extracting and exporting all of the relevant files.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the HunterFGA9w folder into your Aircraft folder.
2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the HunterFGA9w into your Decals folder.
Your stock Hunter FGA.9 will not be affected by this mod.

Hawker Hunter FGA.9 - RAF Far East Air Force
By Spinners
Hawker Hunter FGA.9 - RAF Far East Air Force
This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire Hunter FGA.9 to place it in service with the RAF's Far East Air Force in the 1961-1970 timeline. That really did happen but not with the Hunter wearing 'SEAC' national markings! New decals are included including 26 new tail serials and 26 new underwing serials.
BACKSTORY
The growing threat to Thailand, Cambodia and South Vietnam from nearby Communist states saw the deployment of the Hawker Hunter FGA.9's of No. 20 Squadron to the Far East Air Force in September 1961 followed by No.28 Squadron in July 1962. The Borneo Confrontation of 1963 saw this ground-attack wing deployed to Kuching and Labuan to commence offensive operations against Indonesian forces seeking to infiltrate across the Malaysia/Indonesia border on the island of Borneo. The Commander of the Far East Air Force, Air Marshal Sir Hector McGregor, ordered the re-introduction of the wartime 'SEAC' markings to avoid any potential confusion with the Indonesian Air Force's red and white national markings. Both squadrons were successful in helping to repel the border incursions by the Indonesians, despite the difficult terrain, and stayed in theatre until the Borneo Confrontation was declared over in August 1966 eventually departing in January 1967 when No.28 Squadron was disbanded and No.20 Squadron returned to Tengah.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the HunterFGA9S folder into your Aircraft folder.
2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the HunterFGA9S folder into your Decals folder.
It goes without saying that you'll need the Third Wire Hunter FGA.9 from 'Wings Over Europe' for this to work but if you have 'Wings Over Israel' you can use a substitute 'stock' cockpit as the aircraft LOD's are in that game.
The folder designation FGA.9S is just to avoid conflict with the stock FGA.9 aircraft in 'Wings Over Europe'.

Boeing B-52K Stratofortress B.1 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1
This is a 'what if' B-52K in service with Royal Air Force South East Asia Command with markings for No.9 Squadron. I've already done this for SF2 so thought I'd make it available for SF1 with a little change of decals.

F-14A Tomcat - Ejercito Del Aire Ala 12 (What If)
By Spinners
Grumman F-14A Tomcat - Ejercito del Aire
This is a 'what if' F-14A Tomcat in service with the Ejercito del Aire with markings for 121, 122 and 123 Escuadrons of 12 Ala (12th Wing). The EDA 'Iberian Camo' is actually the stock Iranian Air Force skin by Column5 and Sundowner and it really does suit the Ejercito del Aire markings - especially if you use gepard's superb Israel 2 terrain (recommended).
BACKSTORY
By the late 1970's the Phantom F-4C's of 12 Ala (12th Wing) were becoming increasingly long in the tooth and the Ejercito del Aire urgently sought a replacement. McDonnell Douglas appeared to have the upper hand with no less than three products on offer;
The F-4E Phantom (still in low-rate production).
The F-15C Eagle.
The F/A-18A Hornet.
However, during 1978 the situation in Iran was becoming increasingly unstable and by January 1979 the Shah of Iran had fled in exile. An immediate arms embargo to Iran soon followed and Grumman were left with a considerable number of undelivered and now undeliverable Iranian F-14A Tomcats.
A formal approach to Spain was made by Grumman and agreement was soon reached for the supply of 30 F-14A's to replace the Phantom F-4C's of No.121 and No.122 Escuadrons with a small follow-on batch of 10 F-14R's to supplement and eventually replace the RF-4C's of No.123 Escuadron. The F-14A Tomcat gave good service to the Ejercito del Aire before being phased out during 2009 and replaced by Boeing Hornet F/A-18F's.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-14A_EDA folder into your Aircraft folder.
2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-14A_EDA into your Decals folder.
I've simplified this download by reverting to stock items so now go and fly the Tomcat in Ejercito del Aire markings!

Hunter FGA.9 - No.8 squadron RAF
By Spinners
Hawker Hunter FGA.9, No.8 Squadron, Royal Air Force for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1
This is a quick decal conversion of the sublime Third Wire Hunter FGA.9 to enable you to fly a No.8 squadron machine.
This will only work in Wings Over Europe but you can, of course, also make it work in the other Third Wire 'Series One' games by extracting and exporting all of the relevant files. Since originally releasing this I've added Syrinx's fuselage serial numbers for the Hunter and included a nice loading screen and tweaked the hangar screen to give it 1960's three colour roundels.

1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the HunterFGA9 folder into your Aircraft folder.
2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the HunterFGA9 into your Decals folder.

McDonnell Douglas Hornet F.2 (F/A-18F)
By Spinners
McDonnell Douglas Hornet F.2 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1
This is a 'what if' RAF Hornet F.2 interceptor with markings for No.5 squadron of the Royal Air Force.
Erwin_hans was good enough to release a blank skin so it was a easy to knock-up an RAF Superbug. This is a fine add-on aircraft for 'Strike Fighters 1' and 101tfs and Erwin_hans have created a true masterpiece - one of the very best add-ons available and I'd like to thank them for their hard work in bringing this aeroplane to us. Please note that in this revision I've simplified the effects and sounds to use stock files and you'll want to change the loadout.ini to suit the weapons you've got as, again, I've left it to stock.

Thunderstreak FGA.2 - RAF SEAC
By Spinners
Republic Aviation Thunderstreak FGA.2 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1
This is a 'what if' Thunderstreak FGA.2 with markings for No.31 squadron in a SEA Camo by whiteknight06604.
Regarding the Thunderstreak in RAF service then there is no backstory but perhaps the UK needed some muscle when the Supermarine Swift started going pear-shaped!
INSTRUCTIONS
1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the THUNDERSTREAKFGA2 folder into your Aircraft folder.
2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the THUNDERSTREAKFGA2 folder into your main Decals folder.
Please note that I've simplified things by using the stock F-105 tanks.
CREDITS
Special thanks to the guys listed below - great work and especially the flight model!
Thanks to whiteknight06604 for the SEA Camo for his Greek F-84F.

F-84I 'Sharav' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1 (WOI c/w Add-On)
By Spinners
Republic Aviation F-84I 'Sharav' for Wings Over Israel c/w Add-On
The Armee de l'Air received its first F-84F Thunderstreaks in 1955 and it was in French service that the Thunderstreak saw its only actual combat during the Suez Crisis of October 1956. French Thunderstreaks from the 3rd Escadre moved to RAF Akrotiri on Cyprus whilst the 1st Escadre were deployed to the Israeli base at Lyddia where they supported the Israeli forces that invaded Sinai on October 29th. Despite seeing intensive action only one F-84F was lost and the tough and rugged aircraft so impressed the Israeli Air Force that they ordered 50 F-84F-70-RE aircraft before the end of 1956. The F-84F-70-RE featured the more powerful J65-W-7 rated at 7,800lbs thrust which helped with the initial climb rate and the combat ceiling and these were among the last Thunderstreak's to roll off the Farmingdale production line in the Summer of 1957.
In 1962 the entire Israeli F-84F fleet was grounded due to the same corrosion of control rods that had affected the F-84F worldwide but they were soon restored to full operational capacity, eventually serving with distinction during the 1967 Six Day War and surviving in Israeli service until 1973 when stress corrosion eventually forced the retirement of the Israeli F-84F fleet.
Ignoring by own backstory I've given the 'Sharav' Suez stripes and a 1956 start date! I've previously released this in SF2 but thought it would be nice to release it in SF1 but please note that it does require both Wings Over Israel and the Add-On Expansion Pack.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-84I folder into your Aircraft folder.
2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-84I folder into your Decals folder.

Corsair GR.2 - RAF Strike Command
By Spinners
LTV Corsair GR.2 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1
This is a simple re-paint and 'ini' edit of Florian's (Amokfloo) superb TA-7E Corsair II to give a 'what-if' Corsair GR.2 of the Royal Air Force circa 1975. I did this skin back in 2008 and apologise for it being a bit rough but I just love the RAF camo schemes of that era and slightly later, especially with the 'B' type (Blue/Red) roundels. Apart from adding a screenshot for the downloads section I've just added some serial numbers.
Anyway, Florian's original readme is below and I'd like to thank him for his good work and also echo his thanks
to triplethr3at and Armourdave.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the CORSAIRGR2 folder into your Aircraft folder.
2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the CORSAIRGR2 into your Decals folder.
CREDITS

Hornet FGR.3 (F/A-18F) - RAF (No.4 squadron)
By Spinners
McDonnell Douglas Hornet FGR.3 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1
This is a 'what if' RAF Hornet FGR.3 with markings for No.4 squadron of the Royal Air Force.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the HORNETFGR3 folder into your Aircraft folder.
2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the HORNETFGR3 into your Decals folder.
P.S. Remember to set your Single Mission EndYear=2010,2020,2040 or whatever in your Options.Ini!
