  1. [Fictional] McDonnell Douglas F-4C Phantom 'VNAF'

    McDonnell Douglas F-4C Phantom 'VNAF' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

    This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-4C to create a fictional Phantom in service with the Vietnamese Air Force in the 1973 to 1975 timeline.

    BACKSTORY

    The end of the Linebacker campaign on October 23rd, 1972 coincided with the US Government's 'Project Enhance Plus' - essentially the building up of the Vietnamese Air Force (VNAF) to an adequate level to sustain effective operations after any final ceasefire and, more importantly for domestic politics, to continue the fight after the complete withdrawl of US forces. In a rush effort, 288 aircraft were transferred to the VNAF including 116 F-5's Freedom Fighters, 90 A-37's Dragonflys and 28 A-1 Skyraiders. Not content with that, South Vietnamese President Nguyen Van Thieu specifically asked for F-4 Phantoms explaining that he felt that the VNAF was being issued with aircraft that were short on range and unable to carry the fight to the North.

    Initially refused, US President Nixon later added an amendment to 'Project Enhance Plus' by allowing the transfer of 36 F-4C Phantoms from USAF stocks. The war-weary F-4C's began to arrive in early 1973 to equip two squadrons of the VNAF based at Tan Son Nhut airbase seeing sporadic action during the uneasy truce and scattered skirmishes of 1973 and 1974. However, when NVA forces burst through the crumbing South Vietnamese defences during April 1975 they quickly captured Bien Hoa airbase to the north of Saigon and immediately swung west to capture Tan Son Nhut airbase catching most the surviving 27 F-4C's of the VNAF on the ground. The Phantoms were inspected and overhauled by Chinese technicians before entering service with the 927th Fighter Regiment of the Vietnam People's Air Force (VPAF) who operated the type until 1982 when they were grounded by a chronic spares shortage.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-4C_VNAF folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-4C_VNAF folder into your main Decals folder.

    3. (Optional) From the PILOTS folder drag and drop the PILOT_VNAF1 and PILOT_VNAF2 folders into your main Pilots folder.

  3. [Renewed] F-4K Phantom II - Royal Australian Navy

    This contains three F-4K Phantom IIs in the markings of the Royal Australian Navy. 724, 805, and 808 Squadrons are portrayed. 805 Squadron is portrayed operating from HMAS Melbourne, while 808 Squadron is based on Sydney. 724 Squadron is portrayed as a training squadron operating from HMAS Albatross, a Naval Air Station at Nowra, New South Wales.

    The three time periods of TK's F-4K DLC are represented, original, 75, and 80.

    For all, a standard US Navy Gull Grey/White skin is provided, and for the F-4K 80, a two-tone grey camouflage is also provided for 805 and 808 Squadrons. The latter is similar to the camouflage seen on some RAN A-4G Skyhawks near the end of their service life.

    Modified F-4J loadouts are used.

    Please note carefully: You cannot use the inboard pylons and the AIM-9 rails simultaneously. If you load one, the other will empty. This is not a bug per se, this is simply an inbuilt limitation for the Spey Phantoms.

    The aircraft has been tested in a merged SF2 installation, patched to August 2012. I have included paulopanz's F-4K DLC enhamcement.

    I have included a squadrons.ini. This is not necessary for this mod, but is necessary for the RAAF and RCAF F-4M Phantoms.

    Incidentally, I'd suggest also getting Wrench's HMAS Australia (SCB-125 "What If") located here: http://combatace.com...cb-125-what-if/

    Backstory

    The RAN proposed the acquisition of Essex class carriers to the Government in 1964 to replace the Majestic class HMAS Melbourne. The aircraft the RAN proposed was the F-4B Phantom.

    Operating an F-4B from the relatively small deck of an Essex class carrier is problematic, to say the least. On the other hand, the F-4K Phantom modifications would enable the operation of a Phantom from such a small deck.

    For further on this (including the RAN proposal itself) see the following:

    For an alternate backstory, see this page on my wikia site:

    Installation

    ***********NOTE: TK's F-4K Phantom II from the DLC Store is required for this mod***************
    Copy the contents of the Objects folder into your Objects folder.
    Copy the contents of the PilotData folder into your PilotData folder.

    Overwrite all files when prompted.

    No new weapons are offered. During the timeframe of this aircraft, the Royal Australian Navy used standard US Navy non-nuclear weapons.

    Credits
    TK - For the SF series of games, and the F-4K DLC
    Sundowner - For the skin templates, and for the Spey nozzles.
    Spinners - For the squadron decals from his RAN F-8E Crusader, and some additions to the skins.
    paulopanz - F-4K DLC Enhancement
    ravenclaw_007: High resolution AIM-7 Sparrow missiles
    Olivier ANGUILLE: EMI Reconnaissance Pod

    P.S. Anyone who believes they have been left out of the credits, please contact me at once so I can correct it.

    Backstory

    The idea for this aircraft comes from my alternate history site. It was first operated by this alternate Royal Canadian Navy in 1968 (in this timeline, there was no unification in the Canadian Armed Forces)
    The aircraft was meant to serve on Canada's two Essex class carriers, HMCS Bonaventure and HMCS Magnificent in the fleet defence and strike roles. In order to get the performance required for such small carriers, a new turbofan was developed by Orenda, the Orenda Huron. Redesign of the Phantom airframe to accomodate the larger engine was done by Avro Canada.

  5. CF-110M Phantom II - Royal Canadian Air Force

    The CF-110M Phantom II for the Royal Canadian Air Force.

    There are three versions of the F-4M in this mod.
    TK's F-4M: ADC Grey, SEA, RAF Green/Grey, Olive Drab.
    TK's F-4M (75): ADC Grey, SEA wrap around, RAF Green/Grey wrap around, Olive Drab, Euro 1.
    TK's F-4M (80): ADC Grey, SEA wrap around, RAF Green/Grey wrap around, Olive Drab, Euro 1.

    The following squadrons are provided:
    409 Squadron
    410 Squadron
    416 Squadron
    425e Escadre

    Modified F-4D loadouts are used. It is impossible to use the Sidewinder rails and the inboard pylons simultaneously. This is a built-in limitation of the F-4K and F-4M.

    Back Story

    The idea for this aircraft comes from my alternate history site. It was first operated by this alternate Royal Canadian Air Force in 1969 (in this timeline, there was no unification in the Canadian Armed Forces)
    The RCAF originally did not want the Phantom, being content to stick with the Thunderchief and the Voodoo until the TFX (CF-111C) and FX (CF-15) were ready during the 1970s.
    Canadian participation in the Vietnam War changed that. Canada committed Voodoos to defend the social democratic North Vietnam from Nazi German forces operating from the South and from Burma. The CF-101's inability to dogfight, and unreliability in the harsh tropical conditions of North Vietnam made early replacement necessary. The only aircraft available was the CF-4K, being introduced to the RCN as its strike fighter. McDonnell and Avro Canada devised a land-based version with minimal changes. This entered service in 1969 and quickly went to Vietnam. After the war ended in 1975, the Phantom replaced the Voodoo entirely in the RCAF.

  6. [Renewed] F-4M Phantom II - Royal Australian Air Force

    The F-4M Phantom II for the Royal Australian Air Force.

    There are three versions of the F-4M in this mod.
    TK's F-4M: This is intended as a strike aircraft (but is capable in all roles). In this scenario, it was operated by 2 Squadron, 12 Squadron, and 460 Squadron. It comes in the SEA colour scheme, a Green/Grey RAF-style scheme, and an overall olive drab (as on the CF-104).
    TK's F-4M (75): This is an interceptor operated by 3 Squadron, 30 Squadron, and 458 Squadron. It comes in an ADC Grey scheme, a wrap-around SEA scheme, the Euro 1 scheme, and a wrap-around Green/Grey RAF-style scheme.
    TK's F-4M (80): Again, this is an interceptor operated by 3, 30, and 458 Squadrons. It comes in the grey scheme worn by RAF Phantoms near the end of their service lives, Euro 1, a wrap-around Green/Grey RAF-style scheme, and a wrap-around SEA scheme. Low-visibility national markings are provided for the grey scheme.

    I have taken the SF2 Realism Mod SquadronList.ini and added 12, 30, 458, and 460 Squadrons to it, and numbered the decals accordingly.

    Back Story

    The idea for this aircraft comes from my alternate history site. It was first operated by this alternate Royal Canadian Navy in 1968.

    The RAAF's primary strike aircraft for the sixties was the F-105 Thunderchief. During the Vietnam War, the RAAF used its Thunderchiefs to strike targets of strategic importance to the Saigon Fascist regime. However, German air defences in South Vietnam had taken their toll on the Thuds. With the F-111C suffering serious delays, the RAAF took what was available, the F-4 Phantom. This aircraft had just been introduced by the Royal Australian Navy. In Vietnam, the Phantom enjoyed a high level of success, and showed its multi-role capacity.

    With the delivery of the F-111s, and their work up to full operational capability, the RAAF needed to find a mission for its Phantoms, or a buyer. The RAAF recommended early replacement of the F-106 Delta Dart. The Government accepted this option, and the F-4M served as Australia's air defender until the early 1990s.

  8. [Fictional] RAN, RCN, RAAF, RCAF F-4K/M Phantom update pack

    Contents

    This contains the following changes and additions:
    Capability to mount rail-launched AIM-7 Sparrow missiles on the inboard wing pylons. The F-4K 80 and F-4M 80 have their missiles mounted further forward to clear the chaff and flare dispensers.
    Grouping of the inboard pylon and Sidewinder rails together. This makes the loading screen neater, and preserves the inability to use the Sidewinder rails and inboard pylon simultaneously.
    Rail launched versions of the AIM-7 Sparrow (AIM-7E to AIM-7P are covered).
    An EMI Reconnaissance Pod adapted for the USAF and USN attachment types. This pod is carried on the centreline pylon. It will show up in the loadout under the name "F-4K/M Reconnaissance Pod"
    Auscam skins for the RAAF F-4M '75 and F-4M '80. This skin is a recolouring of the SEA wraparound skin using standard Australian vehicle camouflage colours(As seen on this M1A1 Abrams: http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k198/Phil_H_au/misc/abrams_camo_2.jpg ). For the F-4M 75, full colour decals are used, the F-4M 80 uses black decals for lower visibility.
    Renaming of the skins in TextureSet.ini for consistency.
    Fixed tail skin for the camouflaged RAN F-4K. The upper part of the tailplane now contains the correct unpainted portion.
    Various other skin fixes.
    Recoloured decals for the "LateGrey" RAAF F-4M 80. The new decals are significantly lightened for lower visibility.
    Removed "USN" from AttachmentType for the Sidewinder rails for RAAF and RCAF aircraft, and substituted USAF.

    Installation

    Copy the contents of the "Objects" folder into the "Objects" folder in your mod folder. Merge all folders when prompted. Overwrite all files when prompted.

  12. [Fictional] Thai F-4E and F-4J Phantom II

    Fictional mod of the stock F-4E_78 and F-4J to make them look like fictional fighter planes for both Royal Thai Air Force and Royal Thai Navy Air Arm.

    YOU WILL NEED SF2:V and SF2:E AT LEAST TO GET THIS PLANE RUNNING!

    BACKGROUND

    During the Vietnam War, thai troops assisted the US against the Viet Cong, losing more than 1,000 men in the fights. During the many battles in Vietnam, thai soldiers experienced the tremendous power of the US Air Force and Navy aircraft.
    Especially the F-4 Phantom with her J79-Engines roaring over the battlefields received a special respect from the troops.

    But not only in Vietnam, also in Thailand itself, where many sorties of the US Army and special forces were initiated from, the Phantom was an impressive and formidable apparition.

    As for being an important partner, especially in black op matters, the Pentagon granted Thailand the permission to purchase some F-4Js for their Navy, which were of great use during the hasty evacuation of Saigon in 1975, protecting escaping vessels and aircraft against potential threat from northvietnamese armed forces. As reward for their unconditional aid and sacrifice during the War, the Pentagon allowed the selling of 17 previously cancelled F-4E Phantom II (Serials 75-0638 - 75-0655)
    to Thailand at a much lower price than eventually stated at the contract.

  16. [Fictional] Curtiss P-40N Warhawk 'IDF'

    Curtiss P-40N 'IDF' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

    This is simple mod of Raven's P-40N20CU to give a fictional P-40N 'Warhawk' as it might have appeared in service with the newly-created Israeli Defence Force Air Force in 1948.

    BACKSTORY

    Following the Israeli Declaration of Independence on May 14th, 1948 David Ben-Gurion declared the establishment of a Jewish state to be known as the State of Israel. Within two weeks the Israeli Air Force was formed mainly using foreign volunteer pilots (including many World War II veterans) flying a variety of obsolete and war surplus aircraft sourced by various means. Among these were 36 P-40N Warhawk fighter aircraft delivered in crates from the United States and alongside the Avia S-199's and Supermarine Spitfire LF Mk IX's they formed the backbone of the early Israeli Air Force.

    Whilst the Warhawks were not ready to help in attempting to halt the Egyptian advance from the South during early June 1948 they were soon in operation in the close support role and also bolstered the air defences around Tel Aviv and were successful in shooting down several Egyptian Air Force DC-3's and Spitfires. The Warhawks were also tasked with escorting the handful of Israeli B-17 bombers but were mainly committed to the support of IDF ground forces. By December 1948 IDF ground forces were ready to commence Operation Assaf to take control of the Western Negev and the Warhawks helped in stopping an Egyptian counterattack and helped prevent another counterattack when a Warhawk flying an aerial reconnaissance sortie revealed Egyptian preparations and the IDF was able to launch a pre-emptive strike.

    Following the ceasefire the remaining Warhawks were gathered together to re-equip No.101 who operated the type until the end of 1956 playing a minor role in Operation Kadesh by escorting Israeli Air Force DC-3s dropping Israeli paratroopers behind Egyptian lines at the Mitla Pass and Et-Tur.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the P-40N_IDF folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the P-40N_IDF folder into your main Decals folder.

    3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop the AN-M81 and TANK75_IDF folders into your main Weapons folder.

    At this point it might be a good idea to change the pilot to whatever you've got in your install suitable for the early post-war period.

    CREDITS

    Thanks to Third Wire for the continuous improvement of a great little game/sim.

    Massive thanks to Raven for creating the superb P-40N20CU 3D model and, indeed, his other P-40 models. Thanks to Raven also for the shark mouth decals - compulsory on this aircraft!!

    Thanks also to the creator of the AN-M81 260 lb fragmentation bomb used here. It just looks so right.

    And thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community.

  17. CF-4E Phantom II - Canadian Forces - Part 1

    Introduction

    Here is McDonnell Douglas CF-110E Phantom II for the Canadian Forces Air Command. It is based on ravenclaw_007's new F-4E. This package contains the CF-4E, skins in Canadian Voodoo Grey and SEA camouflage.

    History

    During the 1960s, the Royal Canadian Air Force commenced a search for a more affordable fighter to supplement the CF-101 Voodoo, and the CF-104 Starfighter. The RCAF advised the government to acquire the F-4 Phantom II. The Canadian Government accepted the RCAF's advice, but McDonnell made a counter proposal. McDonnell's executives suggested that the Canadian Government order enough Phantoms to replace their entire fighter force, in exchange McDonnell would buy back the Voodoos, Orenda would manufacture J79 engines. The Government agreed to order enough Phantoms to equip nine squadrons, plus an operational training unit. The high rates of F-4 production at the time would allow for fairly rapid delivery beginning in 1968. The official Canadian designation for the Phantom was CF-110, but it was universally known as the CF-4.

    The Canadian Forces Air Command fielded four Phantom squadrons for NORAD, two for NATO at CFB Baden-Sollingen, three more NATO reinforcement squadorns in Canada, and an Operational Training Unit.

    In Europe, the CF-4 undertook the roles of close support, battlefield air superiority, and strike with nuclear and conventional weapons. Beginning in 1972, the reconnaissance role was filled by twenty four new RF-4E distributed among the NATO squadrons.

    In 1981, 414 Squadron was made operational with twenty CF-4G Wild Weasel aircraft.

    Canada's Phantoms saw combat in the Gulf War, and in Bosnia. After the Bosnian War, Canada decided to replace the CF-4 with the F/A-18C/D. The Phantom began to be phased out of CAF service in 1995, and was finally retired in 1998. Most of the surviving Canadian Phantoms were converted into QF-4 target drones.

    This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire Spitfire F Mk 24 to give a fictional Fuerza Aérea Argentina Spitfire with equally fictitious markings for Grupo 6 de Caza (sorry about the low number of serial number decals but it wasn't originally intended for release and is released 'as is' as a request).

    You will need to have the 'AI Plane Pack 2' DLC from Third Wire.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the Spitfire24_FAA folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the Spitfire24_FAA folder into your main Decals folder.

  25. The Other CF-105 (CF-105 Thunderchief)

    This is a what-if mod of the stock F-105D Thunderchief, with Sundowner's new high-resolution skins for the Royal Canadian Air Force/Canadian Armed Forces Air Command.

    Backstory

    During the late 1950s, Canada agreed to take on a nuclear strike role in NATO. The aircraft that took on this role would replace the Canadair Sabre. The RCAF considered several designs including the Grumman F11F Tiger, the Lockheed F-104G Starfighter, the Northrop N-156F, and the Republic F-105 Thunderchief.

    The F-105 variant offered to the RCAF was an F-105D equipped with an Orenda Iroquois engine. Two prototypes were constructed in 1959, using engines that had been constructed for the cancelled Avro Arrow. The marriage of Iroquois to F-105 was not a happy one. The Iroquois was an excellent engine when used operated at high altitude and high speed, the operating environment of an interceptor. When operated at transonic and supersonic speeds at low level, the engine proved unreliable. A catastrophic turbine failure at 400 ft and Mach 0.95 resulted in a fatal crash. This, combined with the escalating cost of developing the Iroquois forced the Government to cancel the Iroquois and opt for a standard F-105D. Canadian content was kept by having Pratt and Whitney Canada built the J75 engines under licence.

    With the Cold War heating up fast, the RCAF received its Thunderchiefs quickly. Five RCAF squadrons were equipped including 421, 422, 427, 439. and 441 Squadrons. For nuclear strike, their standard loadout was a Mark 28 nuclear bomb, two or four Sidewinders, and two drop tanks. The Thuds could also carry out conventional strike missions using a variety of bombs, missiles, and rockets.

    In 1965, the RCAF deployed 427 Squadron to RAAF Ubon in Thailand to operate beside the F-105s of 2 Squadron RAAF. Between 1965 and 1972, the Canadian and Australian Thunderchiefs bombed thousands of targets across North Vietnam.

    Upon their withdrawal from Vietnam, the CF-105 Thunderchiefs returned to Europe. The Trudeau Government removed their nuclear strike mission, leaving them as conventional strike aircraft only. For this reason, all the CF-105s were painted dark green, and given the new "symmetrical" marking scheme. The aircraft were refurbished after Vietnam to give them another ten years of life, and recently retired Thuds from USAF stocks replenished Canadian losses.

    The Thuds remained in Canadian Service until 1984, when they were replaced by the CF-18. The CF-105G Wild Weasel continued until 1987.

    Skins
    RCAF Natural Metal - Initial skin, natural metal with RCAF Markings. RCAF SEA Camo - Introduced in 1966 for Canadian Thuds deployed to Vietnam. Standard RCAF markings. CAF Natural Metal - Used in Europe & Canada after 1968. CAF marking scheme. CAF SEA - Used in Vietnam after 1968, and introduced in Europe during depot maintenance. CAF marking scheme. CAF Green - Dark Green scheme used in Europe after 1973. Symmetrical marking scheme. Remained until retirement.

    The F-105D has only the RCAF skins. All skins are offered for the F-105D_66

    Installation

    Copy the contents of ModFolder into your mod folder. Merge/overwrite when prompted.

    Notes

    This mod contains a Squadronlist.ini file. If you do not wish to alter your own, then you should add the following into your squadronlist.ini:

    [squadron569]
    Name=421CAF
    DisplayName=No. 421 Squadron
    Nation=Canada

    [squadron570]
    Name=422CAF
    DisplayName=No. 422 Squadron
    Nation=Canada

    [squadron571]
    Name=427CAF
    DisplayName=No. 427 Squadron
    Nation=Canada

    [squadron574]
    Name=439CAF
    DisplayName=No. 439 Squadron
    Nation=Canada

    [squadron575]
    Name=441CAF
    DisplayName=No. 441 Squadron
    Nation=Canada

    Should these numbers not correspond with those in your squadronlist.ini, then change the numbers on the file, and the filenames of the SQN decals accordingly.

    In order to get the correct roundel and Canadian flag, you can change the active date for Canada in your nations.ini from 1968 to 1965. This means that in the menus, you will see "Canadian Armed Forces" three years early, but in the sim, you will get the present Canadian flag and the stylised maple leaf roundel used today.

    To access nuclear weapons for Canada, I recommend making nation specific version of the various US nuclear weapons (e.g. Mk43_Canada), rather than making them exportable.

    To make your own F-105 skins, use Sundowner's templates: http://combatace.com/files/file/14427-hi-res-tw-f-105d-templates/

    No apologies for being cheeky with the designation CF-105.
