  8. B-70 Valkyrie Beta (Version 0.97)

B-70 Valkyrie (Beta) by FastCargo and friends.

    ********************** Version 0.97 ***********************
(Note, this release includes the XB-70 beta released in November 2010)

SF2 Version for Dec 2010 Patch.

Models, some decals, most ini adaptions by FastCargo
Textures and most decals by Sundowner
Dyess AFB serial numbers by Dave from B-1B Redux
3D Rocket Effects by Lexx_Luthor (Lord of the Analog)
    B-1B Cockpit by Dels
    Engine Effects by Deuces, Fubar512
    Any errors are mine...

    Package contains:

XB-70 aircraft in prototype markings for AV/1 and AV/2.
    B-70A aircraft in 28BMS and 62BMS markings
    RS-70B aircraft in 337BMS markings
    B-70C aircraft in 9BS markings
High Resolution versions of the textures and bump maps
    Original Readmes
    This readme

    Notes:

This release is a beta, and as such, is somewhat incomplete. The cockpit is from the B-1B, and there are no damage textures. However, almost all other features of a full release have been included.

    Aircraft include:

XB-70 - The original research aircraft in it's actual configuration...not really set up for warfighting.

However, this set also includes semi fictional versions of operational aircraft:

B-70A - This is most probable version of the Valkyrie that would exist had it gone into production. It is done in 2 paint schemes, the high altitude anti-flash white, and a version painted in an odd silver coating designed to reduce the IR signature (as proposed by the USAF). This version also includes the wing pylons for the Skybolt ALBM, and projected pylons for the smaller nuclear gravity weapons available at the time.

RS-70B - Proposed version of the Valkyrie in an attempt to save it from the budget axe. Similiar to the B-70A in capability, but with additional reconnaissance ability similiar to SR-71. This is simulated by an internal camera window taking the location of the forward weapons bay. I projected that the RS-70B would come into existence during the late part of the Vietnam war, using the camera bay to carry the targeting laser, and dropping PGMs since conventional bombing at 80000 feet and Mach 3 would be very inaccurate. As a result, the first LGB drops in Vietnam are done by the RS-70B, not the F-4.

B-70C - Completely fictional version of the Valkyrie. In the history where the Valkyrie was produced, most of the B-52 fleet was retired very soon after the Vietnam War, only the G and H models remained to carry the AGM-86B cruise missile. The B-1 was never proposed, with the B-70A being the main gravity nuke delivery system and the RS-70B being the PGM bomber. The F-111 and FB-111 remained as the medium range, low altitude conventional and nuclear penetrator. The B-2 was designed at the outset to be a low altitude penetrator, avoiding the costly redesign the actual B-2 went through, bringing unit cost down. As it was, the B-70 and RS-70 were expected to be retired at the beginning of the 1990s as high altitude, high speed SAM systems became more and more lethal. However, after Desert Storm, the lesson was learned that big, long range SAM systems are vulnerable and expensive, but anyone can have AAA...so the doctrine was adjusted for more medium/high altitude operations with PGMs. So all Valkyries underwent a modernization to the B-70C standard, with the ability to carry all PGMs, including the JDAM, JSOW, JASSM for employment in regional conflicts.

There are a few bugs that we haven't been able to solve and may not be solvable due to simulation limitations. The main one is the AI will not take advantage of the high speed and altitude capabilities of the aircraft. Even if you create an actual mission with waypoints dictating altitudes and speeds, it will not fly those parameters (tends to fly a maximum of Mach 1.7). We are still working to squash the remaining issues...and one day we will have a proper cockpit for this machine.

This is a long range aircraft, you can hit a few of the 'walls' on several of the stock maps so give yourself plenty of turning room when planning your flight.

Have fun...report any crippling bugs (except trying to use it in SFP1/WOV/WOE/WOI...you're on your own) in the release thread at CA.

  9. Republic F-103A Thunderwarrior

    Republic F-103A Thunderwarrior by FastCargo

    ********************** Version 1.0 (Initial Release) ***********************

SF2 Version for Jan 2011 Patch and later.

    Aircraft Model - FastCargo
    Aircraft Textures/Templates - EricJ
    Decals - Wrench
F-106 Cockpit - Kesselbut from Pasko F-106 package
Some textures and FM work - FastCargo
Weapons - Bunyap, adapted for SF2 by 331KillerBee

    Any errors are mine...

    Information on XF-103:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_XF-103

The Republic XF-103 Thunderwarrior was an American project to develop a high speed interceptor aircraft to destroy Soviet bombers. Despite a prolonged development, it never progressed past the mock-up stage.

In 1949, the USAF issued a request for an advanced supersonic interceptor to equip the Air Defense Command. Known formally as Weapon System WS-201A, but better known informally as the "1954 Interceptor", it called for a supersonic aircraft with all-weather capability, intercept radar and air-to-air missile armament. Republic was one of six companies to submit proposals. On 2 July 1951, three of the designs were selected for further development, Convair's scaled-up XF-92 that evolved into the F-102 Delta Dagger, a Lockheed design that led to the F-104 Starfighter, and Republic's AP-57. AP-57 was an advanced concept to be built almost entirely of titanium and capable of Mach 3 at altitudes of at least 60,000 ft (24,400 m).

A full-scale mock-up of the AP-57 was built and inspected in March 1953. A contract for three prototypes followed in June 1954. Work on the prototypes was delayed by continued problems with the titanium construction, and more notably by continued problems with the proposed Wright J67 engine. The contract was later reduced to a single prototype. In the end, the J67 never entered production and the aircraft it had been chosen for were forced to turn to other engine designs, or were cancelled outright. Republic suggested replacing the J67 with the Wright J65, a much less powerful engine. The project was eventually cancelled on 21 August 1957 with no flying prototypes ever being completed.

The design was given a brief reprieve as part of the Long-Range Interceptor - Experimental (LRI-X) project that led to the XF-108 Rapier. Part of this project was the development of the advanced Hughes AN/ASG-18 pulse-doppler radar and the GAR-9 missile. Republic proposed adapting the F-103 as a testbed for these systems, although it wouldn't be able to come close to meeting the range requirements of LRI-X. Some work was carried out adapting the mockup to house the 40 inch antenna, which required the nose section to be scaled up considerably. Nothing ever came of the proposal, and testing of the ASG-18/GAR-9 was carried out on a modified B-58 Hustler instead.

    Information on F-103A (this release):

This aircraft is based on heavily on the mockup at the time of cancellation, with 6 of the smaller AIM-4 Falcons and 36 FFAR rockets.

Performance is based on reasonable speculations and closely matches what was in the offical USAF proposed Standard Aircraft Characteristics document.

Some specific things to note include -

This is a point interceptor...designed to give you enough gas for maybe two passes at bomber type targets. It is recommended to be between 250 and 500 knots indicated for your attacks, as your FFARs and AIM-4s will tend to aim exactly at what the nose is pointing at within those speeds (this includes the AI).

To activate the front 'viewport', cycle through your radar modes...be advised while you are using the 'viewport', the radar will not work.

To extend the periscope on the external model, use the 'Arresting Hook' key.

The front missile bays are automatic, the rear missile bays/FFAR pods are manual...you must open them with the 'Bomb Bay' key before you can fire either the rear missiles or FFARs.

This model uses the newest ThirdWire exporter, and as such, the LOD files (except for the lowest 2) are not compatible with any version of the sim older than Jan 2011 (Exp 2 with the Jan 2011 patch). You have been warned...

This will be a difficult aircraft to fly and be successful on a regular basis in 'Hard' mode. If you want an air-to-air challenge, this aircraft will give you one.

Good luck and report any 'serious' issues (ie game crashing or grevious errors) to me at CombatAce.

  10. F-105D Thunderchief, "Aerodrome Defense Force"

    F-105D, Aerodrome Defense Force

    -- For FULL-4 Merged SF2 (Prefered) and/or SF2:E/V =ONLY!!!=

(it can acutally be used in any SF2 install that has the access to the F-105D_66)

    A "just for fun" mod . . .

This package represents aircraft from the fictional Post-WWIII world of the novel series "The Wingman", by Mack Maloney.
These are F-105D Thunderchiefs, as flown from the Free Territory/Trade Zone know as 'The Aerodrome', based at what used to be Syracuse, New York, as owned/operated by Mike Fitzgerald.

This package comes with 2 skin sets; one Natural Metal for the 'deconstruction era', after WW3 and during the time The Aerodrome was established and Fitz began building up business (so to speak), and a 3-tone camo, most likely used during The Circle War and and beyond.
All are based of stock 3W items. New decals are supplied with Fitz's trademark "Shamrock"

This mod creates a new, stand-alone aircraft (not exported, with no other user). It is best used in a stand-alone mods folder that is based on the post-WW3 world of "The Wingman". Although, it may fit into the 'alternate' world of the Global Sedition vs the North American Alliance. (as do many of my terrain mods)

Loadouts have been adjusted to reflect the ADF role in air convoy escort and so forth. The canopy has been set to use a manual animation key. Use Shift/0 to open and close it.

As always, =READ= the enclosed readme for full, detailed instructions. This package has been broken down into the various folders that SF2 needs, to make it a LOT easier to install (read: drag and drop).
Again, as usual, the expected "Notes & Ramblings of a Mad(Wing)man" section for fun.

    Enjoy!!

Those wishing other skins are advised to extract the USAFSilver1 and drop it into the main skin folder. Other, more "unusual" skins may be forthcoming. Depends on End User ™ demand, and my free time. Other than the 'pirate' badges, there are no other markings.

This is a COMPLETE aircraft package, including the Zipper's cockpit and the hi-rez repaint by Batman1978; all is ready to just unzip, install and fly. The avionics ini has been modified to give you an 'audio-only' RWR.

  14. [Fictional] Hawker Hunter F.6M (Falklands)

Hawker Hunter F.6M for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
Requires SF2 DLC 001: Hunter F.6 (60) Royal Netherlands Air Force
This is a very simple mod of the above to give a fictional Hunter F.6M in service with RAF South Atlantic Command with markings for No.1435 Flight. You will need to have the new 'DLC' Hunter as this mod will not work with any Hunter that isn't DLC 001 although you are welcome to reverse engineer it to suit what Hunter(s) you have in your install.

    BACKSTORY
The introduction of the Lightning F.1 and F.1A into RAF Fighter Command in 1960 and 1961 began to free-up Hunter F.6's most of which were earmarked for conversion into ground-attack aircraft for the RAF (as the FGA.9) or for export. But the Falklands Crisis of May 1961 led to the decision to base a detachment of fighter aircraft at RAF Stanley and a batch of 8 Hawker Hunter F.6's were urgently converted into F.6M's a minimum-change conversion armed with the Firestreak missile and improved navigation and radio equipment. The first four Hunter F.6M's were dispatched as deck cargo arriving at Port Stanley in September 1961 to form No.1435 Flight who quickly christened the aircraft Faith, Hope, Charity and Desperation. The second batch of Hunters arrived in December 1961 but, with improving diplomatic relations, they were basically used to keep the original four aircraft airworthy until a rotation policy was adopted. The Hunter F.6M's served until 1972 when they were replaced by Lightning F.2A's.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the HunterF6M folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the HunterF6M folder into your Decals folder.
    That's it!

    CREDITS
As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim.
And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community.

  15. [Fictional] IAI/Mikoyan Gurevych MiG-29I Shu'Al (Fox)

IAI/Mikoyan Gurevych MiG-29I Shu'Al (Fox) for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 (Israel or Merged)

I modded the MiG-29 from The Mirage Factory to make it look like a fictional fighter and recon plane for the israeli air force.

    BACKGROUND
During the first Iraq War in 1991, a group of iraqi MiG-29 decided to desert trying to escape the fate their comrades faced against the overwhelming power of the USAF, US Navy and their allies. Their escape ended over the Golan Heights, where they were intercepted by a entire squadron of F-15 Baz and F-16 Netz patrolling. Due to some misunderstanding between the deserters and the defending pilots, two MiG-29 were shot down and the remaining ones got escorted to the Ramat David Airbase.

Israel handed the pilots over to the US for further interrogation and kept the MiGs for studies. The capabilities of the plane convinced the commanders of the IDF. Israel offered Mikoyan Gurevych a offer for the license they could not refuse to accept, since MiG suffered a lot financially after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The MiG-29 was modified by IAI. Two years later, the first MiG-29I Shu'Al did it's maiden flight on the 24th of June 1993.

  16. Boeing B-52K Stratofortress B.1

Boeing B-52K Stratofortress B.1 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a very simple mod of the stock (non-flyable) Third Wire B-52K to give a fictional and flyable B-52K Stratofortress B.1 in service with No.9 Squadron attached to RAF South East Asia Command.
Also included are fictional 'Flail' and 'Flambard' bombs with Flail being especially useful against soft-skin targets (or fuel tanks if you get tasked against these in Strike missions) and Flambard being a particularly nasty incendiary bomb. You can, of course, convert it to use nukes but bombing from 12,000m with conventional ordnance is a real challenge but great fun. As we don't have a proper B-52 pit you'll have to make do with the one supplied or go your own way and I mainly prefer to fly this one with cockpit toggle off.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the B-52K folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the B-52K folder into your Decals folder.
    3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop the FLAIL and FLAMBARD folders into your weapons folder.

    CREDITS
As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim.
And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community.

  17. A-16A 'Attack Falcon'

    A-16A 'Attack Falcon'

    -- For SF2, Full-4 Merged (Prefered) and/or SF2:I ONLY!!! --

As stated above, you =MUST= have a Full-4 Merged install, or at the VERY LEAST SF2:I to make use of this mod package, as it references all stock items for the aircraft and cockpit lods that are ONLY found in SF2:I or Full-4 Merged game installs. If you have neither of these, don't download this, as you'll not be able to use it.

This is a modification of the F-16 Netz into the proposed A-16A 'Attack Falcon', a specalized ground support aircraft intended to replace the A-10 Thunderbolt II. Those wishing more infromation on it, are encouraged to Google it, and also look at F-16.net.

The aircraft has been completely reskinned in 3-tone Euro 1, from a new home-grown template. Markings represent those based a Nellis AFB, Nevada (for weapons testing and integration). All basic inis, skins and decals are included, as is new green painted version of the AIM-9P Sidwinder (just for this mod/skin pak). All markings are decals, with the exception of the Nellis tail stripe. Serial numbers are spurious; taken from another source.

In the Loadout ini, several alternate loadouts are listed. These can be accessed from the 3rdWire mission editor screen (for post-Expansion Pak 2 users). With the exception of the green 9P winder, all loadouts use stock items.

As always, =READ= the enclosed readme for full, detailed instructions. This package has been broken down into the various folders that SF2 needs/requires/should have, to make it a LOT easier to install. Also, as usual, the expected 'Notes and Other Nonesense' comments by me. Any and all inaccuracies are mine, as we only have the Netz to work from

  18. [Fictional] MiG-29EE Ejército del Aire

Mikoyan Gurevych MiG-29EE Ejército del Aire for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

I modded the MiG-29 from The Mirage Factory to make it look like a fictional fighter for the spanish air force.

    BACKGROUND
The cooperation with IAI in developing the MiG-29I Shu'Al demonstrated the Mikoyan Gurevych OKB the possiblities and rentability of exporting the plane to the West with some modifications.

As a modern and at the same time relatively cheap fighter compared to other western planes, the MiG-29EE was the result of the adaptation of the plane to the needs of the western air forces. The abbreviation EE stands for 'Europe Export'. Since the cold war was over and the "enemy" was no longer existing, Mikoyan Gurevych OKB had no problems in offering one of the best planes of the former Soviet Union to european countries.

Spain did not hesitate to equip the 462nd squadron of the Ala 46 stationed on the Canary Islands with this fighter and relocate the F-18s to the mainland.

    1. Drop the folders into your MODS Folder. If asked to overwrite, click yes.

  19. Yak-141 for SF2

Hi, this is my adapt for the Yak-141, i just put things together and made it to work in SF2 standard, everything has been made to put it in the respective mod folders, if you are prompted to overwrite, please do so, the only part you need to work with, goes to the Soundlist.ini which you need to extract and place it in the flight folder, and add the following lines:

SoundFileXXX=GSh301................ XXX standing as the next number in the sounds sequence.

    [GSh301]
    Priority=NORMAL
    Looped=TRUE
    NumBuffers=4
    3DSound=TRUE
    DopplerEffect=FALSE
    MaxDist=1000.000000
    MinDist=50.000000
    InsideConeAngle=360
    OutsideConeAngle=360
ConeOutsideVolume=0..............this goes at the very bottom
    of the sounds list.

I used a modified Su-27 Flanker cockpit, since it`s the closest one to the real plane, based in pics i found, also the avionics are more modern, just to think as a what if this plane would have entered in service, she would be active as of today.

    VTOL Operation Checklist:

    1) BE SMOOTH AT ALL TIMES....Deploy air brakes (required to raise forward lift engine intake screen)

    2) Set flaps to full

    3) Set nozzles to full down position

    4) Release wheel brakes

    5) Apply throttle SMOOTHLY. You will start lifting at approx. 87% throttle. Under no circumstances should you apply more than 89% throttle when in VTOL mode, or you will loose control when the AB kicks in.

    6) As you're gaining altitude, dip the nose forward slightly while still in VTOL mode to gain forward momentum.

    7) Raise the landing gear, and begin swiveling the nozzles back (as smoothly as possible), as you gain forward speed.

    8) Retract the air brake/intake screen as you pass 80 knots, raise the flaps all the way at 170 knots,

    9) Did I remind you to be smooth as often as I should have? : )

    10) Practice makes perfect!

This mod is uploaded using the Freeware Licensing Terms by the Forum, but i want to thank to the following individuals:

-Gabilon, the creator of this beautiful plane.
-Oliver, BPAO Anguille for the Cockpit (thanks wherever you are)
-Lindr2, who tweaked the cockpit in his MiG-29 beta release.
-The Trooper, for the fabulous pilot.
-Fubar512 who made some modifications to the FM, and they are noted in this read me.
-Deuces, for the MiG Afterburner effects and fuselage vapor effect.

If i forget someone here, pelase let me know and i will credit you, my apologies in advance.

I hope you enjoy this mod and if you have any questions, don´t doubt to ask me here in the forum, or via PM.

  20. [Fictional] Lockheed Martin F-35E "Lobo"

    [Fictional] F-35E Lobo (Wolf)

This is a mod of FastCargos F-35B to make it look like a plane from the spanish navy air arm.

    BACKGROUND:
After having taken the F-14B "Lion" out of active service, the 8th and 9th escuadrilla from the Armada received the AV-8S and the TAV-8S. The arrival of the new spanish aircraft carrier "Principe de Asturias" made it necessary to have planes with jumpjet capabilities, which the "Lion" did not have.

With a unique offer from Lockheed Martin for the F-35 Lightning II, the Armada decided to replace the Matadors from the 8th escuadrilla with the F-35B, which had VSTOL-Capabilities.

Although the plane was called Lobo, which is a land-based predator, this name refers to the Seawolf. But seawolf would be lobo marino in spanish and aircraft do not have two part names.

    INSTALLATION:
Simply drop the Folders into your Strike Fighters Mods Folder.

    CREDITS:
Thanks to FastCargo and all other people involved in the creation of this plane.

    Enjoy.

  21. [Fictional] BAC Lightning F.53H

BAC Lightning F.53H for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a very simple mod of the stock Lightning F.53 to give a fictional Lightning F.53H of the Hungarian Air Force.

    BACKSTORY
The revolutions of 1989 generally had a domino effect across Eastern Europe and Hungary soon followed Poland and in March 1989 the government bravely declared the anniversary of the 1848 Revolution a national holiday and this was soon followed by the reburial of former Prime Minister Imre Nagy (executed after the 1956 Revolution) and calls for Soviet forces to leave Hungary. Popular opposition to the Communist regime continued, eventually leading to Mátyás Szurös declaring Hungary a republic on October 23rd, 1989 and the free elections of March 1990. However. with Soviet forces withdrawing fast the Hungarian Air Force (Magyar Légiero) was soon short of equipment and spares and when the Soviet MiG-29's departed from Tokol in 1991 the air defence of Hungary rested with literally a handful of poorly maintained MiG-21's.
During the late 1980's British Aerospace had bought back many of the surviving Saudi Lightning F.53's and had hoped to sell them to Austria (whose air force were hard-pressed to intercept a business jet) but the deal fell through and the Lightnings had continued to lanquish at Warton prompting a tentative offer to sell them to Hungary at a knock-down price. In May 1991 the UK Government bought 26 of the ex-Saudi Lightning F.53's and gifted them to the Hungarian Air Force in a move believed to have orchestrated by President George H. Bush.
Arriving in August 1991 the Lightnings were operated by the 59th Tactical Fighter Wing at Kecskemét AFB and served until 1998 when they were replaced by MiG-29's donated from Germany and Poland.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the LightningF53H folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the LightningF53H folder into your Decals folder.
    That's it!

  22. Dassault/Convair F-114A "Mirage'

    Dassault/Convair F-114A "Mirage" (A What If...)
    -- For SF2, Full-4 Merged (Prefered) and/or any combination with SF2:E & SF2:I --

It =REQUIRES= a Full-4 Merged install -The PREFERRED Way ™, or at the very least, SF2:I for the various and sundry bits used herein. To, wit; the SF2E Mirage 3C and/or DLC3, and SF2:I for the Shahak (MirageIIICJ) Cockpit. If you do NOT have the minimum required game installs, DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS MOD, as you won't be able to use it.

This is a mod of the SF2:E/I Mirage III as seen in the SF2 "What If Forums", fully extrapolated into a production aircraft as used by the USAF Air Defence Command and Air National Guard units (supplimenting and replacing the F-102 in many cases, until the F-106 arrived a bit later than is historical). You can read the backstory there (with additons by me in the "Notes" below)

This is a complete aircraft, with 4 skin sets.
    The skin sets are:

    119th FIS, New Jersy ANG
    196th FIS, California ANG
    317th FIS, Alaska ADC
509th FIS, USAF, PACAF, Southeast Asia 3-Tone

Skins are based off the stock NM Mirage 3C, from new partial templates I created. All inis included reflect it's Primary Usage as an Air Defence Interceptor; however, all ground attack capabilities and mission statements are retained.

All new serial number decals have been created, extrapolated from the end-of-production run of the F-102s. The "FM" buzz number code is a real code, once assigned to Fisher P-75. I thought it would be fitting, what with it being a =M=irage. (a name it keeps, as I couldn't think of a good 'D' name to fit with Delta Dart and Delta Dagger. Delta Dirk?? Just don't sound right!). All markings are decals, thereby making it easier for other skinners to create other USAF/ADC/ANG/etc units by simply making new unit marking decals. The PACAF skin makes use of stock, in-game decals for the serials.

Basic armament is 'standard' for early/mid 1960s USAF Interceptors; the AIM-4 Falcon and nuke-tipped AIR-2 Genie. Sidwinders will load automatically after 1972. Alternatively, for non-nuclear missile carriage, a revamped (read: repainted and ini tweeked) conventional warheaded AIM-26B Advanced Falcon is included. For mission builders, there is a Conventional Loadout statement in the loadout ini. All A-G loadouts use standard, USAF in-game weapons. I've also supplied the AIM-4G from the GunnyPak, for those poor unfortunates that might not have it.

As always, the canopy is activated via a manual animation key. Use Shift/0 to open and close. Landing lights have also been added, as well as corrected positioning for other running lights.

As always, READ the enclosed readme for full, detailed instructions. This package has been broken down into the various folders that SF2 needs, to make it a LOT easier to install (read: drag and drop). As expected, the usual "Notes and Other Nonsense" section, that lists the changes/modification/improvements/whatever that Convair did when 'Americanizing' the Mirage.

Have fun with it!! I sure did building it!

  23. [Renewed] Hispano-Suiza HS.304 Trueno (Thunder)

Fictional mod of the stock MiG-21MF to make it look like a fictional fighter plane for the spanish air force.

YOU WILL NEED BOTH SF2:E AND SF2:I AT LEAST TO GET THIS PLANE RUNNING!

    BACKGROUND

In the end of the 1960s, the HA.210 Hidalgo got outdated due to the appearance of new fighters and weapons. The new Semi-Active Homing-Technology made the Hidalgo a easy target for medium and long-range attacks. A new fighter, able of carrying the allied equivalent, tha AIM-7 Sparrow, was needed. Hispano-Suiza and CASA competed in the production of this new plane.

Hispano-Suiza won the competition with the fighter called "Trueno". The design was sleak but robust. The maiden-flight of the plane was on the 21st of January of 1971 and the 111th and 113th squadron were supplied with this plane in December of the same year.

  24. [Fictional] MiG-17PF 'Fuerza Aérea Argentina'

MiG-17PF 'Fuerza Aérea Argentina' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a very simple mod of the stock MiG-17PF to give a fictional export version for the Fuerza Aérea Argentina with markings for Grupo 6 De Caza.

    BACKSTORY
The Argentinian elections of 1958 saw Arturo Frondizi become President and with some support from Peron's followers to introduced various policies to encourage investment and make the country self-sufficient in energy and industry. One major issue was Argentina's chronic trade deficit and in early 1960 Frondizi cancelled the order for 28 refurbished F-86F Sabres on cost grounds and announced the procurement of 36 MiG-17PF interceptors from the Soviet Union for an undisclosed sum "to be funded solely by beef exports". Entering service with Grupo 6 De Caza in 1961 and armed with the indigenous 'Espada' radar-guided air-to-air missile the MiG-17PF's served in frontline service until 1979 and thus played no part in the 1982 Falklands/Malvinas conflict but did remain on reserve status until 1983.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the MiG-17PF_FAA folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the MiG-17PF_FAA folder into your Decals folder.
