    2. Sabre small pack.rar

Until Pasko release something new - here you are 2 mods "gap fillers" - there are quite some time on my HDD(amoungst many other - "sub mods"

      First Aircraft
This aircraft depicts an F-86F-1 Sabre of the ROCAF.All planes are later upgraded to F-86F-40 standard with 6-3 (F-40)wings and AIM-9 rails, many air to air victories are made by ROCAF pilots in 1958
      over PLAAF.

The Republic of China Air Force of Taiwan was one of the first recipients of surplus USAF Sabres. From December 1954 to June 1956, the ROC Air Force received 160 ex-USAF F-86F-1-NA through F-86F-30-NA fighters. By June 1958, the Nationalist Chinese had built up an impressive fighter force, with 320 F-86Fs and seven RF-86Fs having been delivered.

Sabres and MiGs were shortly to battle each other in the skies of Asia once again in the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis. In August 1958, the Chinese Communists of the People's Republic of China attempted to force the Nationalists off of the islands of Quemoy and Matsu by shelling and blockade. Nationalist F-86Fs flying CAP over the islands found themselves confronted by Communist MiG-15s and MiG-17s, and there were numerous dogfights.

During these battles, the Nationalist Sabres introduced a new element into aerial warfare — under a secret effort designated Operation Black Magic, the US Navy had provided the ROC with the AIM-9 Sidewinder, its first infrared-homing air-to-air missile, which was just entering service with the United States. A small team from VMF-323, a Marine FJ-4 Fury squadron with later assistance from China Lake and North American initially modified 20 of the F-86 Sabres to carry a pair of Sidewinders on underwing launch rails and instructed the ROC pilots in their use flying profiles with USAF F-100s simulating the MiG-17. The MiGs enjoyed an altitude advantage over the Sabres as they had in Korea and Communist Chinese MiGs routinely cruised over the Nationalist Sabres, only engaging when they had a favorable position. The Sidewinder took away that advantage and proved to be devastatingly effective against the MiGs.

The combat introduction of the Sidewinder took place in a battle on 24 September 1958 when ROC Sabres succeeded in destroying ten MiGs and scoring two probables without loss to themselves. In one month of air battles over Quemoy and Matsu, Nationalist pilots tallied a score of no less than 29 MiGs destroyed and eight probables, against a loss of two F-84Gs and no Sabres.

P.S. General Electric J47-GE-27/B (standard 27.10kN) installed in Taiwan kites is even stronger a bit (for short periods of time- 5mins or so- at 5468Rpm it can provide over 30KN of thrust on high attitude - I modelled that in Sabre FM)

      Installation:

Simply unzip the .rar file to into your Strike Fighters/Objects/Aircraft folder.

      Second Aircraft:
This aircraft depicts an F-86F-30-NA Attack Sabre of the USAF.Korean veteran and proof that Sabre can perform quite well as fighter/bomber.

      Installation:

Simply unzip the .rar file to into your Strike Fighters/Objects/Aircraft folder.

Many thanks to Zur, USAFMTL, Crab and Heck Mitchell,Pappy and special thanx (for friendship) goes to MoonJumper and Pasko
If I missed anyone...apologies in advance.

      Starfighter2

Ver. 1.1 Ravenclaw_007 made excellent CL-13B Sabre, I used silver skin with Kukulo's help to adopt it for Taiwanese F-86F-1,

thx goes to both of you guys - I scaled it down to 1024 as good compromise

Ver. 1.12 F-86F-1 ROLL control improved, some small skin improvements - mod is SFP1 compatible (2006 patch)

    6. MiG-21S

      MiG-21S (NATO "Fishbed-J")
Single-seat interceptor fighter version, equipped with an RP-22 radar and an optional external gun pod. (Incorrectly identified by NATO as the MiG-21PFMA); E-8, Type 88 Indian Air Force designation.

This was the first "third generation of MiG-21 Fishbeds".
Since the MiG-21R retained complete combat capability even if it wasn't actually used in practice, it was an obvious next step to produce a new fighter variant based on its updated airframe. After evaluation with prototypes designated "Ye-7S", the updated fighter was put into production at Gorkiy in 1965 as the "MiG-21S", or "I-95" as the Mikoyan OKB referred to it. It remained in production until 1968.

Aside from the new airframe, the MiG-21S featured some new kit, including a more powerful RP-22 Sapfir (NATO codename Jay Bird) radar with range at least doubled; an ASP-PF gunsight for the optional GSh-23 centerline cannon pod; and a link for the Lazur-M ground-control system. It could carry a range of heat-seeking or radar-guided AAMs, as well as rockets or bombs. Early on, the MiG-21S was qualified for carriage of a tactical nuclear weapon on the centerline pylon. The AOA sensor, the offset pitot tube, and the periscope was added in later production. This was the first version with four wing pylons.

Although the MiG-21R and MiG-21S incorporated many improvements, the weight increase meant that ceiling and climb rate had suffered. Worse, the hoped-for range increase with the increased fuel capacity didn't materialize, mostly due to fuel trim problems that made the expanded fuel capacity something of a fiction. Obviously the design needed some more rethinking, but that was going to take time and effort.

In the meantime, incremental improvements would have to do. An export version of the MiG-21S, the "MiG-21M" or "I-96", was built at the Znamya Trudaya factory from 1968 into 1971. It retained the older RP-21M radar, but featured a GSh-23L twin-barreled cannon in a flush belly installation, replacing the centerline GSh-23 cannon pod introduced on the MiG-21PFM. The flush cannon pallet carried a store of 200 rounds of ammunition and could be neatly winched out of the fuselage for servicing. The new cannon scheme not only reduced drag but permitted carriage of a fuel tank or other store on the centerline pylon. A steel blast panel was installed on the belly of the aircraft forward of the cannon muzzles. HAL of India license-built the MiG-21M, with initial production delivered in 1973.

This mod represent Soviet version MiG-21S with deleted cannon and IRM AA capability only, radar guided missles was only tested on "S" and fully implemented on MiG-21SM (none of "S" were exported). It differs from SM/MF engine wise too - it had weaker "R" type engine. Nevertheless it was large step forward compared to PFM.

      Installation

    9. MiG-21R

      MiG-21R (NATO "Fishbed-H")
Single-seat tactical reconnaissance version of the MiG-21PFM.

Developed after the Korean War, the MiG-21 very much mirrored the contemporary U.S. designed F-104. It was a lightweight, point defense interceptor that went on to perform a multi-role mission. It still remains in service in both its original build and in remanufactured versions. While not without its faults including poor armament and visibility, limited avionics, and short endurance, it also had many good features. Its small size made it very hard to see in combat, and while it has a high airspeed bleed off in a maneuvering fight, it retains the capability to point its nose at very low airspeeds. At least as important as those virtues, it was easily maintainable; an important factor for the many third world nations that flew it. While used primarily in the air defense role, they have also served in ground attack and reconnaissance missions. It was this last type of aircraft that I decided to model. The MiG-21R carried a centerline pod mounting cameras or Elint equipment and which replaced the 23mm cannon. While carrying this pod it was still able to retain a self defense capability of AA-2 "Atolls" and carry the vital, and ever present, external fuel tanks. Reference sources indicate that at least some MiG-21R's also carried wingtip mounted ECM pods, and Soviet no-export versions even have internal stronger ECM's.

This mod represent Soviet version of MiG-21R without ECM wing pods.(you have internal one's both passive and active - hit "Z" on keyboard to engage).

      Installation

    10. NF-104A

In 1963, three ex-USAF F-104As (56-756, -760, and -762) were taken out of storage at Davis Monthan AFB and modified as NF-104A aerospace training aircraft. All of the military equipment was removed and the original F-104A vertical fin was replaced by the larger fin that was used on the F-104G. The wingspan was increased by four feet (to 25.94 feet) and a set of hydrogen peroxide control thrusters were mounted at the nose, tail, and wingtips. A 6000 pound thrust Rocketdyne LR121/AR-2-NA-1 auxiliary rocket engine was mounted on the tail above the jet exhaust pipe. This rocket engine could be throttled from 3000 to 6000 pounds of thrust, and the burn time was about 105 seconds.

The first NF-104A was delivered on October 1, 1963, with the other two following a month later. They were operated by the Aerospace Research Pilot School at Edwards AFB, which was commanded at that time by Colonel Charles E. "Chuck" Yeager.

On December 6, 1963, the first NF-104A set an unofficial world altitude record of 118,860 feet for aircraft taking off under their own power. The official record at that time was 113,829 feet, set by the Mikoyan/Gurevich Ye-66A, an experimental version of the MiG-21 Fishbed. Later, the same NF-104A flown by Major R. W. Smith reached an altitude of 120,800 feet.

On December 10, 1963, the second NF-104A (56-762), with Chuck Yeager at the controls, went out of control at an altitude of 104,000 feet and fell in a flat spin to 11,000 feet. Yeager managed to eject successfully at that altitude, although he was badly burned on his face by the rocket motor of his ejector seat. The aircraft was destroyed in the ensuing crash. An investigation later showed that the cause of the crash was a spin that resulted from excessive angle of attack and lack of aircraft response. The excessive angle of attack was not caused by pilot input but by a gyroscopic condition set up by the J79 engine spooling after shut down for the rocket-powered zoom climb phase. So it wasn't Chuck's fault.

In June of 1971, the third NF-104A, with Capt. Howard C. Thompson at the controls, suffered an inflight explosion of its rocket motor. Although Thompson was able to land safely, the aircraft's rocket motor and half its rudder were blown away. Since the program was about to end in any case, this aircraft was retired.

The number one NF-104A is currently on display on top of aa pylon in front of the USAF Test Pilot School.

    11. MiG-23_WOI_modified_FMs_from_neles_data.rar

OK - here are 2 DATA.INI files that I've modded for MiG-23s in WOI.

They are modified from the stock WOI MiG-23BN_DATA.INI and stock MiG-23MF_DATA.INI and I've copied and pasted in the relevant FM parts from nele's MiG-23MF_DATA.INI at http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=4565 .

I've flown them a bit and they seem OK but use them at your own risk.

All credit for the FM content should go to nele who did all the outstanding work creating the data in the first place.

      To install:
      a) Copy the MiG-23BN_DATA.INI file to the Objects\Aircraft\MiG-23BN folder backing up any existing files before you do so.
      b) Copy the MiG-23MF_DATA.INI file to the Objects\Aircraft\MiG-23MF folder backing up any existing files before you do so.

      Cheers,

    24. LORAN F-4Ds in Southeast Asia Part 2

LORAN F-4Ds in Southeast Asia Part 2

This is part two of my attempt to represent every F-4D serial number which flew with the AN/ARN-92 LORAN-D "towel rack" antenna in Southeast Asia in 1971-72. These additional airplanes are really for the die hard like myself that just had to have every one, which now total 65 (68 total decal schemes that you can select). Just add the files supplied here to your existing F-4DLORAN folder from my Part One.

In addition I have added a few corrections which will over-write a few old decals, plus the 11 black-bellied "Night Owl" F-4Ds of the 497th TFS at Ubon are here again which were LORAN birds.
