Hello, I have been thinking about this for many years, but I have never spoken about it before. I want to create a major mod about the Beagle Channel conflict between Chile and Argentina in 1978. I would appreciate any help regarding vehicles, maps, or anything else.

It is a long way to creating a mod. First, you should collect all available knowledge and data regarding vehicles, maps, and everything else that might be useful in the process of creating a mod. Then find people whose hearts will beat faster when you tell them about your mod, and share your knowledge with them in the newly created inner 'Beagle' circle. And then all goes quite easily.

But I might be wrong. It is just my personal experience here in CA.

Never heared about that conflict. But no problem at all.

My 2 cents about that idea:

pro: there are enough airfields in that area to make a proper air war

Planes and camos for that conflict are available

Vehicles should not the big problem.

contra: making the terrain would be enormous time consuming, because the coastline is formed by hundreds of firthes, which must mostly created          by hand

As basic tileset, the IslandNA tileset would fit, but it must increased by a lot of new made tiles, what needs a lot of time

I guess it would need more than a year to make this terrain properly.

Long time since I last checked, but is not the area included in the Malvinas mod?

Nice to see you!

Hello, there was no war between Argentina and Chile in 1978. Both countries mobilized forces but there was never a war. It may be a what if mod of course. I was 13 and was there.

A terrain could look so:

Feuerland_screenshot_000.thumb.jpg.3ef3f3bcfec3a5ef886becb4c43f194f.jpg

While the east - west distances are more or less correct, the north south distances are to short. The reason is, that the DEM database, which covers the heightfield data of the world are warped. As closer you come to the poles the warp effect becomes bigger and bigger.

Quick made terrain. Only 2 bases, one for each side, plus a argentinian carrier station.

If there is an interesse on this Beta terrain i could release till end of the year. This could be a basic for others who could add more target areas and could create new tiles for towns or so.

A few years ago (almost 15....), when we were still flying SFP1, we, in the spanish forums, created a very similar map to fly online, carry out cooperative missions, and conduct virtual tactical exercises among the air forces of Chile, Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay. We also planned to include Spanish forum members with their F-18s and Eurofighters.

The terrain was in a beta–minimal version, but we actually managed to test it online. I even remember an “accident” while landing in Ushuaia because we hadn’t leveled the air base terrain yet… ouch!!

We kept working on it for a while longer, but when SF2 was released and online flying was lost—together with a drop in the number of interested people—the idea gradually faded into oblivion.

We had also evaluated the idea of a complete MOD, considering the possibility of creating three terrains: the SOUTH, a NORTH one that included the border area between Chile, Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina, and one for the central region.

We managed to do some work on both the SOUTH and NORTH terrains; the CENTRAL terrain was never started.

In any case, these ideas were always handled within the realm of “what if” fiction, so we used to exaggerate quite a bit and include some very far-fetched situations.

Some target areas on Tierra del Fuego. Only placeholders with one warehouse and a Flak each, to test whether Strike, SEAD, RECON, INTERCEPT missions will work.

You see the blue stripe in the middle. It is the place of a lake (name forgotten, sorry i'm not familiar with this part of our world). Here i must do still a lot of tiling and height setting by hand.

Some screenshots of Rio Grande Air Base.

Ushuaia Airport (left) and Ushuaia Naval Air Station (right)

Only the Airport is made operational in game. I doubt, that the AI can handle the mountains north of the Naval Air Station, thatwhy it is made only as eyecandy.

The runway of the airport is shorter than in real life, but otherwise it would not fit.

Indeed, the Ushuaia Naval Air Station was an air base where flying operations were particularly hazardous. Pilots and passengers

who flew there at a time when it was the only available airport recall that landing on that runway was an impressive—and daunting—experience.
