WideSky V1.0

Widesky: all new environment for WOI/WOE/WOV (not FE!!!)

WHAT IT IS:

- all new 3D-clouds

- custom colors for sky, haze, fog

- custom colors for noon, sunset, dawn, night and everthing between

- custom sun-glare effect (lensflare must be ticked on)

- all new background textures

- new cloud layers

- much wider sky

INSTALLATION:

!!!!!!!!!!!! Important !!!!!!!!!!!!

Make a backup/copy of youre "flight" folder and name it to something like "flight default". In case you dont like

what you see, just delete it an rename the original folder back. Or do like I do: having different flight folders you can choose......

!!!!!!!!!!!! Important !!!!!!!!!!!!

Extract widesky.zip in youre main thirdwire directory. (WOI, WOE, WOV)

Or extract to a place of youre choise and place all the files in youre "flight" folder.

KNOWN ISSUES:

If you fly close to the overcast cloudlayer you will occasionally see some clipping issues. At least thats what I do with my ATI card.??

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:

Thanks to TK and crew for this fantastic series. And to all the modders making an outstanding game even more enjoyable!!!

Suggs and critics:

Thanks everybody :ok: gets me red ears

Hope it helps spoil the immersion-factor a bit. I tried to create a more real-life environmment. Dont get me wrong, I like the "cartoonish" approach of the default environment. But since the planes have evolved to a level wich is simply amazing (Kfir, A7 etc.), the environment is at a standstill. Wich is a shame IMHO, after all, thats what we fly in. I hope TK will some day improve here a little. It wouldnt take much effort with programming and and would come at almost no cost in performance. Cool dawn and hot sunset, occasionally cirrus-layers, cloudshadows and the like. But I think, thats not high on the list..............

You have done an absolutely outstanding job here. The visual effects and clouds are very, very realistic. Absolutely top notch and should be on everyone's MUST LOAD list.

I can hardly wait for your next project! What do you have in mind next?

"What do you have in mind next?"

WideSky for FE: But this one is hard. I still have to find some workarounds due to the different engine.............

(Z-Buffer and clipping) Not yet sure, if I will find some solutions.

Cheers, Marcel

That great news! I hope you can come up with something for FE. The horizon situation is a major detraction IMHO. Pre-EP it was fine. :dntknw:

Excellent work....I can appreciate the amount of time & effort it takes just to get the lighting right.

BTW the clipping issue with the cloud layer is due to the near tile count & size, and there are a few otherwise "unknown" options that one has when it comes to implementing overcast & inclement weather conditions that you might want to know about...
