I might finish Sea Cobra J International for Iran and Gazelle for Iraq. Of course if needed.

Never created a campaign, but for a compile mod of course. Really needed!!

I discovered this. The work continues on the map. I'm close to completion now, but we lack the IRIAF F-4E, AFAIK we have the others.

Aren't there IRIAF F-4Es in the Operation Darius mod?

Well guys I have a problem here. I edited the original Wrench IR2003 map, and altought he knows that, but I not asked permission yet, I used tiles from him and from Stary too, so for a release I need permission of both of them, I'm asking for that permission.

But what to do now? When I finish the map we will have a slightly more beautiful map, but that's it. I never compiled a mod or created a campaign, so I'm asking what should we do now?

Also remember that Centurion was working on a full revamp including several campaigns, so maybe I should release only the map and let Centurion finish his mod?

I'd rather release the map at the moment if I were you, then we can all focus on the mod, maybe we should ask Centurion about it. BTW good job with the tileset, I saw your screenshots, good looking terrain.

In other news, I hope you don't mind if I resumed the work on my revamped map, I need to add the damned rivers and roads (btw I made new hi-res transition tiles for them just yesterday using JSF_Aggie's Alternative DS tileset), but overall, I managed to get the Caspian Sea right and the targets need some little fixing. Don't worry, for my map there is still a long way to, so your map is needed anyway.

EDIT: Centurion was working on the mod, while regarding the terrain he was just creating and expanding the original tileset, since he came to know about my revamp. Now I really decided to finish the terrain in my little free time, let's hope someone else gets interest in building a mod package regarding the 8 years war between Iraq and Iran.

Wrench, do you have a photoshop template (.psd file I mean) of the IR2003 terrain tileset?  I need to create some transition tiles for the sea. If not nevermind, I'll do it the hard way.

Test the terrain once, and then test it again and again during the time you may consider.

Here's my progress on the complete map revamp so far.  I've spent the last days making over 40 or more transition tiles, and hand-tiling the Caspian Sea, the Caspian Sea coast, Lake Urmia, Lake Van and some of the snowy mountain peaks.  Still a lot to do though, don't pay attention to the blue dots inside The Wall, those are placeholders..

Thanks guys!  I'll use this thread to keep you posted about it.  I'll see what I'll do in the next days, probably I'll start adding the damned rivers in Iraq.

Stratos, keep working on your terrain repaint, mine one is still in the works and will be for a long time, I think, due to RL.  Moreover, my new transition tiles use a mixture of Centurion-1's and JSF-Aggie's tiles, so I'd need their permission to use their work first, before releasing anything.

Aggie's should be ok to use -- he's a Freware Signatory. Centurion-1 I don't think is.

a note of rivers, especially in mountain regions ... yes, they're a frelling* nightmare. Depending on how "rolly" the terrain is, you can use the TFD tool to flatten out the water course. I've had to do the countless times on the WW2 CBI map. It can create gorges and vallies, but that's usually what happens via erosion in the Real World.

The safest way is to have a backup copy of the HFD ( copy/paste in the terrain folder, and rename with the current date. Example: 9-11-2015-IR.HFD. Then, work the TFD tool and check in game. If one doesn't like the result, toss the modded one and rename the backup back.

Thanks for the info, Wrench.  I once tried TW's Terrain Editor with the function Adjust Sea Level, it worked great on another WIP map of mine, although as the name implies it works only for the sea areas, IIRC.

I'll have to ask Centurion-1 about the tileset then. However it seems he is not around here recently.

Guys I'm going to suggest something. As the terrain HFD is the same for all the WIP , my suggestion is to create a common tileset for this terrain, and then ,make specific targets.ini and small modifications for each different era or conflict.

Stratos is just making his own tileset IIRC, while using the original .HFD of the terrain released by Wrench, that .HFD is unfortunately geographically wrong, damaged let's say.

So I decided to correct all the geographical inaccuracies, I created a new .HFD while depicting the area of the original terrain. I've been correcting the locations of countless targets and added more transition tiles (202 tiles in total atm), so I hope this is going to be the definitive terrain. As far as I can tell everybody is using the same .HFD atm, while I'm working on a completely new one (correct altitudes, Caspian Sea coast manually tiled according to satellite images and so on)

In other news, does anybody know the exact location of the Mina-al-Bakr Oil Terminal? Today it shoud be known as Al-Basrah Oil Terminal, as the Yanks decided to rename it after 2003. I've been looking all over the internet, still no precise info.

Good, I did not know that,  I think everybody should use your HFD as reference.

indeed, the original HFD has SERIOUS issues, many of which were/are caused by the flattening of airfields (the airbase west of  Terhan come right to mind)

didn't I place the terminal on that map? Or was it another one? Where I put was a 'best guess' based on the Kuwait/Iraq coastline and Falika Island, from GE views

edit: on the IR2003, it's at 689083 x 377313

Yes, I am using the coordinates above.  I was asking about the terminal because I have failed to find it in GE satellite images.
