+WhiteBoySamurai Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 The second of the Izumo class helicopter carriers, Japan's largest warship since WW2, was launched a few days ago, and given the name of one of the IJN's most infamous fleet carriers. http://www.navyrecognition.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3048 Her flight deck is actually longer and wider than WW2 Kaga. While the Izumo class are not intended as offensive weapons, I'm sure the choice of name will rustle some jimmies in certain countries. 3
+daddyairplanes Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 1. Not a US headline until it sails to Pearl for an exercise :p 2. Is this what your buildung after the long deck Essex? :)
+WhiteBoySamurai Posted August 31, 2015 Author Posted August 31, 2015 It'll happen one day! Actually I'll be building the Hyuga next after the Essex, and eventually the Izumo. 2
MrGoTime Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 That is interesting. Are they allowed to have actual aircraft carriers as well? Or just helo-carriers?
TheWarrior Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 (edited) I don't think so they by their constitution. That is why they call them, destroyers. Edited August 31, 2015 by TheWarrior
+Wrench Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 wouldn't "thru-deck cruiser" be a better name? 1
+Stratos Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 The F-35 will be easily adapted to work from those decks, right?
fallenphoenix1986 Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 (edited) No need to adapt the F-35B to the ships... the ships themselves might need tweaked though. Cant imagine the deck is designed to be torched by a jet. Craig Edited August 31, 2015 by fallenphoenix1986
Do335 Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 A heli carrier can still give ASW a huge buff I reckon. Other than political reasons, proper CVs are way more expensive. Plus USN carrier wings and land based f-15s can fill in for top covered when needed. (just off the top of my head...)

MAKO69 Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 I'm sure it has been designed to take the heat of a VSTOL aircraft.

fallenphoenix1986 Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 WBS unfortunately hasn't been around these parts for quite a long time now, wouldn't get your hopes up. 1

Well I've became aware that someone is building a FSX/P3D version so I have a plan using ModelConverterX & more... problem is, it'll take some time to convert and that's if I get permission to do so. So that will go into V2 of my single mission pak plus more goodies. V1 ETA is 25 March 2019. Or earlier...
