Iran-Iraq War Terrain/Campaign

Included in this package is a brand new Iran-Iraq/Western Asia Terrain with 4 campaigns.

Three of the campaigns compose the three periods of the Iran Iraq War-

1st- the initial invasion which spans from 1980 through 81- Lots of CAS and Intercept as well as strike missions.

2nd The War of the Cities and Tanker War from 1982-1987-Many interdiction anti-shipping and strike missions similar to Rolling Thunder

3rd The Battle For Al-Basrah all of 1988- Lots of CAS, anti-ship and strike missions

The 4th campaign is a semi-fictionalized Project Dark Gene/Ibex campaign from 1970-77 with USAF and IIAF units conducting recon missions against Soviet Installations and protecting Iranian borders from Iraqi Incursions. Because the terrain doesn't extend to the Soviet Border the campaign was turned 90 degrees with northern Iraq-Mosul/Tikrit acting as our stand in Soviet area.

Includes all the required aircraft and skins including Ravenclaw's Beautiful new IIAF/IRIAF F-4's and Iranian weapons and new F-4D and RF-4E skins to match from Yakarov79!

A separate install is not required and will work best if incorporated into a big everything thrown in Mod Folder.

This mod package is meant to be an addition to Operation Darius or Operation Desert Storm and NATO Fighters 5 from Eburger68. Ground Objects from Mr Burgers packages are required for example Iranian Destroyers.

Here is a link to Op Darius- http://combatace.com/topic/74627-operation-darius-final-part-1-of-4/

And Desert Storm- http://combatace.com/topic/84643-operation-desert-storm-for-sf2-redux-part-1-of-3/

Nato fighters 5- http://combatace.com/files/file/13332-nato-fighters-5-part-1-of-8/

The Aircraft included in this mod are readily available here at CA and the thank you/credits list is too large to name everyone! See the credits list for NATO Fighters 5 that should cover everyone!

A HUGE thanks to Blaze for Letting me tinker with his new Western Asia Terrain to make it Perfect for an Iran-Iraq War Campaign!

This Mod is a combination of many people's work here at CA thank you everyone who helps contribute to the Community!

I am by no means an expert but I have had a blast putting this together over the last few months if someone can add more realism to the campaigns PM me and let know! I hope everyone enjoys this!

Well since I'm on duty tonight, I'll have this to make that time fly. Been looking forward to a new Iran-Iraq campaign for a long time. Thanks Spudknocker!

Great work, Spudknocker!

I would like to hear what terrain modders think about the new terrain. It took me a long time, I hope it was worth the wait. Standalone releases will follow for ODS and Operation Darius, but I won't update the campaigns, they need major rework and I'll leave that to eburger and others. But I can help a little in regards to historical accuracy.

it's very great one! thank you very much!

but I think maybe the type of aircraft and groundobject  should to be more , such as the F-7A/B/M, MiG-23MF/ML,Su-22M3/M4,H-6D and so on

maybe add this pack is very good:http://combatace.com/files/file/16303-iranian-air-force-support-aircrafts/

and I think maybe take it as a single pack is better.

the last, I think the map should be a NavalMap , so we can add the fleet to Strike

thanks for you great work!

Unless Spud changed anything, it should be a NavalMap. Better yet, wait for me to release the standalone versions of the terrain, they will contain more things, targets and a greater year span, including ODS and OIF.

Wow! It's amazing! I can't wait for that!

 After a test with 1980 campaign :

It seems that I have a loadout issue with the MiG-21 MF for strike missions : no ordinances are selected and AI flights are flying "naked"

- The F-14 is only loaded with Sparrows in A2A missions. Is that correct?

I merged the game with NF5 as advised and put ODS groundobjects in.

Historically, it should only be armed with Phoenix as the Sparrows and Sidewinders they had were USAAF versions : it took some times to adapt them without the help of the US

Note that there should not be ecm as "default" loadouts for iranian F4 as they were used in very limited number (The player can still have one)

Makes me think of a US Navy + French Navy campaign against Iran in 1988

The same goes for Fishbeds MF in air to ground : only... well nothing. But I can select the weapons and fly with them. This issue obviously is a concern for the AI.

Black means untextured.

Most likely Spudknocker didn't correct the entries in the terrain _data.ini. I prefer .jpg textures over .bmp for space conservation, but Spud converted all .jpg textures to .bmp. The _data.ini may be referencing wrong file extensions, .jpg instead of .bmp or viceversa, depending on what is effectively inside the terrain folder.

Also, I decided to remove various TODs for buildings and trees from my latest terrain versions (Spud's terrain still has the additional old TODs), since I don't like them very much, they are very old and I would love to see Stary or other artists improve the tileset someday.

So, wait for my standalone releases (it will take a while), the issues you are encountering are already fixed.

For teh specific station code we have in the F14 data.ini :

AIM54

and in the missile data.ini :

F14IRAN, we need  to change to the same name

Also, I have strike missions with Iran F14, it never occured

My install is based on ODS : no sparrow and no AIM9 available :(

But the Mig-21 looks ok

You're right Spud, in fact I am a bit stupid recently, you would have noticed about it after all, during all the campaigns' testing.  Makes me think that the terrain was not unzipped correctly. yakarov, try to unzip the terrain again from the mod package. If the issue shows up again, feel free to post screenshots. I can tell from them which are the tiles affected by the bug.

BTW, IIRC it seems that SF2 does have this bug sometimes; when too many mods and resources are being used, something shows up totally black, it fails to load the textures. It happened to me sometimes with ground object and aircraft alike.

This mod is dedicated to BPAO, nothing would have been possible without him.
Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force seized 24 F1BQs and F1EQs flown over from Iraq, during the 1991 Persian Gulf War. As of December 2021, 12 Mirage F1EQs and 5 Mirage F1BQs were in service.
This mod is not 100% accurate, Iran used all the EQ versions but for more simplicity we decided to use only one version, the EQ-5, to cover all the IRIAF aircrafts.
There is not a lot of informations about the Iranian Mirage, so we did our best to make a realistic aircraft.
Based on Iraqi F1EQ-5 v4.0.1 mod with the following changes:
all the original Iraqi weapons and pods have been disabled as Iran did not get any of those P7 and sidewinder compatibility added (instead of R550) F5 tanks (underwings stations only) instead of original F1 RP35 US bombs and rockets. Another data.ini version is provided for russians bombs and rockets use instead of US. Covered unit :

This addon is and will in all cases remain freeware.

      Hi everyone,
I'm trying to recreate the 1st Gulf of Sidra Incident with my F-14A Tomcats and my Su-22M3 Fitters, doing it extremely historically accurate, paying attention to every little detail.
So far i've done everything, and it's almost identical to the real one, but there's ONE issue i can't figure out, let me explain:
During the morning of the 19th of August 1981 two F-14A Tomcats intercepted two Libyan Su-22M3 Fitters in the Gulf of Sidra.
The Fitters were equipped with two AA-2 "Atoll".
Just before the merge, while nose-to-nose, one of the two Fitters fired a missile to one of the two Tomcats, but being the missile a very old and primitive heatseeker, it started tracked and going for the Tomcat, but as soon as the F-14 made a slight break, the Atoll lost its track.
      The PROBLEM IS:
There's no way i can make the Fitters shoot the missiles before merging, if only the AA-2, or any other equippable missile was all-aspect or radar guided just like the R-23, i think it would work.
I tried having a head-on merge with two Mig-23 Floggers equipped with radar guided R-23s and they shot at me before merging.
I tried all other available missiles and nothing changed, some didn't show either.
I tried copying and pasting the Data file from the Aim-7 to the R-60 Data file, and nothing changed.
I tried changing the loadout file to R-23, but the Fitters show up without any weapon since there's no R-23 option in loadout for Su-23M3s, so i think it's not possible to have them (and would be historically inaccurate too).
I tried changing enemy difficulty from Normal to Hard, but nothing changes still.
The only thing the Fitters do is shooting their guns just before the merge, but no missiles are fired when nose-to-nose.
Is there a way to fix this? A way i can make my Fitters fire at least one of their missiles when we're nose-to-nose, just like when i got nose-to-nose against Floggers equipped with R-23s?
Is it a problem with the enemy AI? Or with the missiles? Or maybe even with the Su-22M3 Fitter i'm using?
Thank you very much for helping me

      Notes about the installer
Beware, the mod is available only in the ISO format. You can either mount it on a virtual drive, burn it on a DVD like in the good old days, or unzip it with 7-Zip or equivalent software.
The installer will automatically detect your installation of the required Strike Fighters 2 games by reading through the registry keys. Game folders that are copied from or manually moved from where they were originally installed are not supported. You need all three aforementioned Strike Fighters 2 games and they must be installed with ThirdWire's original installers, not manually copied from other sources nor moved elsewhere after installation to other folders or drives. If you do not meet any of these requirements, installation cannot proceed and you are on your own. If you install all required games properly, the installation of the mod will proceed correctly as intended. The installer then lets you choose where to install the mod folder; you can even install the mod on a different drive or partition than the one where Strike Fighters 2 is installed. No further user input nor manual edits after installation are ever required; the installer takes care of creating all proper links to your desired path for the mod folder. After installation is over, simply run the mod by using the created Desktop and/or Start Menu links.
If you have a previous version of the mod installed, please use the uninstaller to remove it completely. Clean installation is mandatory. You might want to make a backup of the Controls folder, so that you can easily restore your controller settings afterwards.

      Suggestions on common issues
Make sure that you are using your dedicated GPU. By default, Strike Fighters 2 usually selects the integrated GPU you may have on your CPU, which is much weaker in terms of VRAM. In case you have frequent crashes or black/missing textures, I highly suggest you download and install the DXVK graphics wrapper (x86 DLLs) into your Strike Fighters 2 game folder: https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk. You need a Vulkan-compatible GPU. The wrapper can greatly improve the experience with the mod. With DXVK I can play the mod on a mere Intel UHD 710, whereas without it the mod would always crash to desktop. Go to Sound and set Sound Channels to 32. We got reports that 16 is not enough and will cause crashes on some systems, due to the higher quality sounds included within the mod. The mod is pretty heavy for the game engine despite huge optimizations. Strike Fighters 2's engine is 32bit only and apparently does not manage VRAM properly; consecutive campaign missions might show black/missing textures on objects or cause crashes to desktop because the game does not release the occupied VRAM from the previous mission you played, thus the more missions are loaded consecutively, the more easily you may run out of memory. Set Ground Objects to Medium or Low, Horizon Distance to Near, and Shadows to Medium or Low. These are the most troubling settings. Avoid Unlimited settings as much as possible. If the mod used to work and suddenly crashes to desktop, updating or reinstalling video drivers should help. Make sure that DirectX June 2010 Redistributables are also installed, they are included inside the ISO disk image of the mod. Inside the mod folder, you'll find some extra text files. "(Coalition Order of Battle)" should be of your interest; the mod's terrain covers the entirety of Iraq, at the cost of not having all of Saudi Arabia; this means that a number of important units are based on airbases that are beyond the in-game playable area. With those units you always spawn near the target area, you'll never get to start from a runway nor to land on the assigned runway beyond the invisible wall. You have an entire list of the affected units in the aforementioned text file. By pressing ALT+N, the plane returns to base automatically. The mod is fully compatible with the Campaign Customizer and Mission Editor DLCs by ThirdWire. The Campaign Customizer might be an alternative way to experience those off map units I mentioned previously, since it assigns you to a random airbase of the in-game flyable area. Escort missions are often broken, this is not an issue of the mod, but a bug of the stock game; sometimes the AI flight you escort does not engage its target and keeps flying in a straight line instead of following waypoints, thus the trigger for mission success will never happen. Abandon the mission or retry it if the issue happens, sometimes it works. Pray for ThirdWire AKA Tsuyoshi Kawahito to work on a 64bit version of Strike Fighters 2, maybe even with support for DirectX 12. With that done, any out of memory issues should become an old memory. View File [Fictional] McDonnell Douglas F-4M USAFE
McDonnell Douglas F-4M (USAF) Phantom for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2:Europe
This is a simple mod of the stock F-4M_75 to give a fictional USAFE Phantom F-4M with markings for all three squadrons of the 48th Tactical Fighter Wing based at RAF Lakenheath during the mid 1970's.

      BACKSTORY
During late 1966 with the USA getting more and more embroiled in the Vietnam war it was decided to re-equip several USAFE units with the British licence-built F-4M so as to release older tactical aircraft such as the F-100D and F-105D for Vietnam where attrition was now a very serious issue.
McDonnell Douglas had already brought together a UK sub-contracting team consisting of BAC, Hawker Siddeley, Rolls-Royce (for the Spey turbofan engines) and Shorts with final assembly and flight testing being carried out at St. Louis but, with one eye on the European market, McDonnell Douglas moved final assembly to Brough (North Humberside) with flight testing at Holme on Spalding Moor. This decision came a bit late for the Royal Navy whose F-4K aircraft continued to be assembled and flight tested in the USA but all F-4M's were produced in the UK with all odd production numbers being allocated to the RAF and all even numbers to the USAFE with Lakenheath and Bitburg becoming the first USAFE wings to re-equip with the type.
Entering service with the 48th Tactical Fighter Wing based at RAF Lakenheath in England in 1970 the F-4M's received a modest upgrade during 1973-1974 to emerge with the Marconi ARI18228 RWR mounted on the fintip and also gained 'slimer' formation-keeping strip lights. The USAF F-4M's had a relatively long career with USAFE and were eventually replaced by F-15E's during 1990 and just missed out on participation in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

      INSTRUCTIONS
      1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-4M_74 folder into your Aircraft folder.
      2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-4M_74 folder into your Decals folder.
      That's it!
