Now that I could "debug" Operation Modular, by SpudKnockers, I really enjoy it

A short and fun campaign, with tough support missions

Low altitude flight is important:

Elements of CVW5 begin a series of probes of Chinese activity in the South China Sea...

large.img00282.JPG.7f75a1c534b990bef672f

Running in low and fast, the plan is to get some good imagery of each island and then egress before the Chinese can react...

March 27, 1999 - A group of 4 F-117A stealth aircrafts are ready for take off from Aviano to strike targets near Belgrade

33trqfc.jpg

Usually F-117As were escorted by EA-6B Prowlers but that night wasn't the case... Due to bad weather Prowlers were grounded and F-117As were finally ordered to strike their targets without escort because their structure made enemy air defense radars very difficult to detect them

33k9c9k.jpg

Yugoslav spies acquired this critical information and transmitted it to Yugoslav Army

ne80t4.jpg

Formation of F-117As followed the usual flight path and dropped paveways at its targets

3343cs4.jpg

However the 3rd Battalion of the 250th Air Defense Missile Brigade of the Yugoslav Army commanded by Lt. Colonel Zoltan Dani operated S-125M Neva-M (SA-3B Goa) SAM system had relocated and had been waiting for enemy aircrafts to reach the area. Zoltan's unit successfully acquired one of the targets

6pt0li.jpg

After some seconds the 82-0806 callsign "Vega 31" was tracked by unit's fire control radar. Missiles were ready on their launchers

PUCK !!! (Launch)

F-117A was hit and crushed shortly after. The rest is history...

Bad guys during operation Askari (1983):

I made several modifcations to SpudKnocker's campaign :

No Mig-23ML (they were not operationnal at this time accoding to Tom Cooper)

No SA-8 neither

Added some Mig-21 PFM

I could also have added Su-20M (very close to Su17M3), which were operationnal from 1982.

Of course, my date are only hypothesis as we know very few things about the Angolan Air Force at this time, let alone which aircraft or unit actually fought at that time.

We have better information for operation Modular
