That's going to be interesting. I have Discord so I may check it out.

Definitely. I already have a Discord account and I just entered the server. This was unexpected, in a very good way. Discord is powerful for indie developers. Project Wingman, an arcade flight combat game, uses Discord to maintain fans updated about further developments etc. You can find lots of other examples as well.

I feel a little guilty, for years I (and many others) complained about TK not listening to his true fanbase. This might change things for the better. Good move from him, I totally support this endeavor.

Well we'll see how it pans out as I joined as well.

Now I wonder if it will last long. Some joined just to despise it. If that's the attitude, I have no idea why they joined in the first place. You always have Twitter and Facebook to contact TW and spit on TK.

Also, a little note: I am sure TK removed hosting of old patches and the old forum site due to server costs, because these things don't come for free and I highly doubt he's rich. He's an indie developer producing niche (thus not so profitable) products, but saw even less profits due to illegal distribution of his games. In all of this, Discord is a free service (with some limitations) he can leverage.

Bottom line is, we do have reasons to criticize TK and how PC development ended abruptly. On the other end, the jerk attitude I've seen surely won't change things for the better.

TK promised a Win10 patch with a failed crowdfunding, claiming that through loans he would cover costs for development all by himself. Then the pandemic happened, and recently all of Texas became a snowball. Despite this, I also remember he gave away free copies of SF2 to those who supported the crowdfunding, something which was an unexpected surprise to all. Here at CombatACE I have made countless posts where I criticized TK and some of his design choices (and relative bugs) in Strike Fighters 2. But there's a limit to everything, I think. For once he's done something good for himself and the series, it's a small step but in the right direction; apparently someone wants to shoot him down, flying too much in the virtual world while forgetting there's a real one full of issues.

Feel free to enjoy the (unpolished as well) DCS products and/or those games from famous publishers, filled with cancer DRM and MTX.

My rant is over.

I think given the problems that TK has had, and fan expectation has created the negative environment seen on Discord already. I mean people see it as another place to vent and maybe rightly so. I have my own gripes about the game, but I guess my experiences have tempered my attitude towards the development and sustainment of the game. I'm sure that maybe since they created the Discord that they can finally address fan complaints in some way and hopefully work out the issues. That's my .02

I have my own gripes about the game as well, as I said previously. You have no idea how many game engine-related issues I discovered, most don't even know about them in detail. By being an amateur programmer, I can also figure out what is feasible to fix, what is not. But that attitude I've seen will make sure TK abandons PC development forever. Perhaps that's what they want to achieve. There are polite and constructive ways to express criticism. Resentment brings nothing.

In all honesty, I have seen much much bigger and richer companies do worse wrongs to their customers than TW. You don't like something? You get a refund. Go tell that to EA and the likes.

Seriously...the guy HAS more or less abandoned the game already. He came out of nowhere with the crowdfunding-thing und disappeared nearly as fast. I guess he wanted to keep open the possibility to squeeze out the last bit of money from SFx to keep his other (mobile) stuff running. It's his stuff, so he can do with it what he wants, but fooling customers only works once...and I still don't believe that he really had intentions in reviving/continuing/fixing/whatever SFx. And yet I was stupid enough to give him my hard earned money. ;)

Real interest in continuing SFx would need him to add atleast a tiny bit of new stuff or fix stuff, that is already known to need a fix. And I'm sure there's enough stuff, that even he would consider to need a fix.

Was there any form of support from TW for SFx in the last years? No bullshit here...I honestly ask that question, because I don't know. I cannot remember that anyone that contacted him about anything gamerelated, got an answer that was helpful in any way. So IMHO there's nothing to lose...as it is lost already.

P.S. I don't have Discord and have no plans in changing that. ;)

My suggestion is not to join that Discord server. It's abandoned by Third Wire aka TK. There is no kind of moderation in there, no moderators and the admin (TK) is not active in it since years. Anyone can spam pings and posts, verbally abuse other users and so on. I left the server when one user figured this out and began throwing out racist insults. There are better Discord servers by fans about flight sim games in general. The one by TW actually deserves to be taken down.

Ya, it's got a LOT of folks that know little or nothing about military aviation, to say nothing of some "folks" that are not nice. I know some have been banned from here.

It's not really worth it, very sad to say. If "owner" of that channel were to take a tighter reign on things, maybe it would be better (the Star Wars TieFighter Total Conversion discord channel is a perfect example of good folks running a tight ship; very cooperative and informative)

The SF discord ... well, it lives up to the name, don't it?

I've had one guy who was banned here trying to get my Super Hornet Package, and I flatly refused, because once you do it once, they keep asking.

If anyone wants to talk about SF2 (and other Sims) in a grown-up and enthusiastic space, the YouTube SF2 streamer Devin Horner made a discord earlier this year (at my suggestion), because apart from this place there's really nowhere else. You can find it here:

https://discord.gg/QRqnh9dU

I'm a moderator there and very active, so can vouch for it.

I'm a member of the TW discord and, while I haven't seen any really bad stuff yet, it isn't great for PC stuff. I also find it really weird the earnestness that people can talk about a mobile game!
