I made a test tile for small city airfields.

It's a first attempt. I still have to play a little bit with PaintshopPro.

got a question, slightly off topic

is it possible to have a terrain that would encompass the Balkans and also reach up to Ramstein AB in Germany?

Menrva does have his beautiful Italy, Southern Europe terrain, but the furthest northwest it goes is Zurich (actually kind of odd to have a Swiss base in the mix i think), while to the Southeast it goes down to Greece I believe

while i know you could just generate Hercules and C-160 "strike/aid delivery flights' starting off map, it would be cool to be able to fly such a mission whole trip

NOTE: im not askin you to make one, im just asking if its possible. the one way distance iirc is around 1400km

At least Swiss and Austria.

All is possible. The Balkans terrain I made required years of work, especially in tiling rivers and lakes, it meant manually placing, one by one, over 10,000 tiles. If you want it bigger, it means remaking the terrain from scratch (we cannot enlarge already existing terrains, they must be redone from zero) and with even many more cities, roads, rivers and lakes, which may require even more years of work of manually placing them. So yes, it's possible but not worth it. A few hundreds downloaded the terrain I made and it's not exactly popular, most folks rather enjoy simpler terrains without correct placement of cities and airports, lakes and rivers. I really don't feel like spending years of unpleasant work for something only a couple of folks would enjoy.

If someone else wants to make what I did better and bigger, they're certainly welcome. I can assure it's no walk in the park. That's why I'd rather work with terrains having the same size of TW ones, they tend to be more focused and feasible to make. That's also why I admire Gepard for still working on new terrains, because creating and modding them burned me out badly.

Could be difficult. The AI can not really handle airfields situated in narrow valleys. The planes tend to crash into the mountains.

My Balkans terrain already features both Switzerland and Austria and I confirm that AI crashes into valleys in airfields inside narrow valleys.

and beleive me, i still freaking love yours, it one of the most beatiful terrains out there right now

for complete coverage, it could be a little bigger, and a little more to the north and west.

but i could also hush up and just deal will my "humanitarian aid strike" packages being generated off map

those are the furthest north i can notice in the current terrain. but neither i think was actively (militarily) invovled

I'm a little late to this party, but I think that Wrench's WW2 Europe terrain covered nearly all of Western Europe from the UK down to Switzerland, and maybe even Northern Italy. That would suggest map size isn't necessarily an issue and that it could be possible to make a similar slightly larger terrain that covers Italy and the Balkans too, enabling you to not only fly aid deliveries from Ramstein, but also fly B-52 & B-1B Allied Force missions from RAF Fairford all the way to Yugoslavia and back.

Not that I'm suggesting anyone should actually make such a map as I can imagine that tiling and detailing a terrain covering such a massive territory would be a huge project.

such a huge map exists. the "million meter terrain" or something like that, in the 1stGen downloads. It was never really completed, or worked on much

found it:

There's also Baltika's & my unfinished China/Burma/India theatre map for WW2. Goes from central India, east to Hong Kong, north (almost) to central China and south to Indonesia.

So, yes extensive landscaping is possible. It's when you get beyond a certain latitude north or south that things get weird due to planetary curvature
