How did you get those? Is there any link or source? I'm looking for so long for infos regarding 1st and 2nd Gulf of Sidra Incidents and i can't find much, it's like the dynamics have already

Here the libyan view: https://warisboring.com/the-libyans-describe-a-different-version-of-their-1981-battle-with-the-u-s-navy/

It comes from a book by Tom Cooper Libyan Air Wars, Volumes 1 & 2.

These books are the next thing i'm gonna buy.

Even tho the "knownl" official version was the real one, it's still amazing to read as much perspectives as you can and know history from all of its sides, the more you know!

Thanks!

Not quite. I will divide into 2 SEPERATE activities.

1) When you use WE to change missiles, WE makes these changes to copies of the ini's and saves the copies for use. WE does NOT make changes to ini's in the cat files.

Edit AA-2 missile in WE and then save. This creates a folder called AA-2 (with edited ini's inside) in the correct place in the mods folder. That is all, you are finished with this missile change. Do not touch the ini's in the folder. In game the AA-2 has new parameter changes.

This is how you edit missile ini's - not manually in notepad.

If you want to make more changes or adjust your changes for the missile then again use the WE to make changes and WE will edit the copies.

If you want to reset the missile to default then just delete the folder with ini's inside. The game will use original ini's (which are actually in the cat files).

For your scenario; in the WE look at these parameters - Timer delay & min range (possibly reduce this distance). There may be others to change and experiment with.

Note: I got carried away. You just want to change AA-2 to all aspect. I got mixed up and gave info for if changed guidance type. So after you do above then that is it. You do not need to make edits to aircraft data ini's.

I left in the catextractor explanation below just for useful info.

2) The CE, however, makes copies of the ini's in the cat files and puts the copies in a folder, created by CE, called Extracted files in the Saved Games folder, next to the SF mods folder. Then user can edit the ini's in notepad and place in suitable sub folders in the SF mods folder. So all CE does is make a copy of ini - it does not edit.

You are editing copies of ini's made by CE and same for WE, it edits copies. No changes are permanent because you can delete the copies and game will use originals.

Hey i tried using the WE but when searching for the AA-2 Atoll folder i find out there's none, but the weapon in-game is still selectable and usable. There's no AA-2 Atoll folder in weapons. How's that?

How can i change the parameters of a weapon that is in-game but no where to find it?

And i tried using the CAT extractor, but when selecting a cat file it says "error opening this .CAT file, no files can be extracted", no matter what CAT i choose...

And btw i tried equipping the Su-22 with AA-8 Aphids, that if i understood correctly they're all-aspect, but even then the Su-22s didn't fire them.

Is it sure they would fire if i change rear to all-aspect for the Atoll, with some shootin distance editing too, and make the Sukhois use them instead? Or they would just pass by shooting guns like they already do?

Thank you

Go to the Objects folder in your install. Look for a file called WEAPONDATA.INI and make a copy of it in case you make a mistake while editing it. This contains the weapon data for the weapons included in the base install. You can search for the AA-2 by using CTRL-F. Individual weapons are overwritten by the folders in the Objects\Weapons folder. So, if there is no AA-2 folder the computer will use the data from the WEAPONDATA.INI file. It is the same data but in a long numbered list with over 100 weapons. In my WEAPONDATA.INI file the AA-2 is [WeaponData141]. Yours may vary. You can change the GuidanceType=10 or any other statement as you see fit.

Thanks for helping me.

I just checked and i have no "WEAPONDATA.INI" file.

I think i checked everywhere but there's none, that's very weird.

I never used that file but i know it should always be there. I'm pretty sure didn't delete it.

Is it hiding somewhere?

I must have gotten it out of the cat files with the cat Extractor. Here is mine. Just copy it to your Objects folder. I have also included the GUNDATA.INI file. It contains the information for all the guns in the game. Put it in the Objects folder as well.

WEAPONDATA.INI

GUNDATA.INI

Oh thank you very much.

How did you find those?

And how did you manage to make CAT extractor work? Mine doesn't and can't open any files.

It says the thing you saw in the other Topic i opened.

Is there a way to fix that?

Do you know by any chance why i can't find those 2 .INI files and why the CAT extractor doesn't work?

James  where is the extractor installed?

My catextractor installed itself to a folder, it created, called Utilities and located this in the Thirdwire folder in Programs Files (x86) - next to Strike Fighters folder.

Local Disc c:/Program Files X86/Thirdwire/Utilities

This is same folder the weaponseditor installed itself.

Also, my weaponseditor has AA-2 listed with others, AA-7  AA-8  AA-7C. Below FAB500 bombs.

Yep that's exactly the same as my directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\ThirdWire\Utilities, just next to the big 5 merged Strike Fighters 2 folder.

The CE did all by itself.

I also have Weapons Editor and Guns Editor in the same folder.

I don't know why some weapons don't show, i had to download a separate package from Combat Ace called Red Side Standard Weapons Pack - Full Beta - Weapon Packs - CombatACE

That provided me the AA-2 and i could finally see it once pasted into the Weapons Folder, and then could edit it throught WE.

I also noticed i don't have the WEAPONDATA.INI and GUNDATA.INI, i really don't know why.

The CE doesn't work, i see all the "Objects" CAT files but once i click on a CAT file it says "error opening this .CAT file, no files can be extracted" and nothing shows up

I can't even click on "Exctract All" as someone suggested me, the buttons are greyed out 660bfed0d1306_Screenshot(547).png.6074bd3686749a966080ce50306ee44c.png

I honestly have no idea what i'm doing wrong

Do you have mods?

Remove any big mods.

Or do a separate install of SF2 in a different location (or a different pc) and try using cat extractor.

You may need to install all 5 games.

Neither the WEaponsdata nor gundata are required anymore, especially for add on or edited weapons. Hence, the creation of seperate sub-folders in the /Weapons folder This is clearly stated in the Knowledge Base on "Editing weapons" or some such title. Might want to give that a look see.

Also might want to read up in the KB on "how the extractor works". Because they ALL do.

Odd the Utilities instlled in the base install; mine installed to the root of the SavedGames/ThirdWire.

Having mods, in any amount will NOT effect how the editors works.

The weapons editor is convenient especially when you look at Guidance type. In the ini, this item has a numbered code, eg GuidanceType=10. But in the editor it has Heat seekers, and similar for other types. So for ini editing, user needs to know the codes. (Although, I suppose not many people change guidance type on missiles.)

Rechecked, my extractor installed itself in Program Files x86. Also put a Utilities folder in Savedgames but it just contains Config file for the extractor. Also creates another folder in Savedgames/Thirdwire called Extracted Files.

The CE is the last thing i want to install right? Before the 2013 update, otherwise an error message will show up if i'm not wrong.

Otherwise i'll reinstall it just now

Yep same to me, it installed in Program Files x86 and a Utilities folder in Savedgames.

So the problem now is just why the CE doesn't let me extract and why i can't see some weapons unless downloaded, like i did for the AA-2.

I hope i got everything right

The CE is installed separately from SF2. So you can just uninstall  and reinstall, it without any issues.

Without any order of installation, even after the July 2013 last patch for SF2 merge install right? Even if the CE is dated back as 2012? And WE and GE count as separated installations too right?

I just did uninstall & reinstall of WE & CE without causing issues to the game.

These apps just make copies of ini files (and others). Of course WE makes changes to these copies of ini files but not to the actual game files.

Do you realise that you can actually DELETE all the folders & files in Saved Games and SF2 will start up like normal and create the folders & files back in Saved Game. But your edited ini's will not be there, ie you have vanilla install again.

This is convenient when you want to revert to vanilla install for whatever reason.

You may not be aware, so this is how it works:

I have some edited ini's that I always use ( Flight, Huddata, Viewlist, joystick profile) and I just keep these copies so if I reinstall the game or delete Saved Games folder then I can just copy those ini's In to Saved Games. Instant modding.

Yeah, i realized you can insta-mod just by saving the folders, this is amazing!

Thank you very much

      Dear All,
Today we proudly announce the release of a new, re-edited and upgraded version of the Yankee Air Pirate project known as: "YAP RW Phase One - Enhanced Edition (2025)".
We have spent more than a year and a half doing our best to correct all the issues, errors and mistakes contained in the original release.  This includes removing assets used without proper permission or those that came from unauthorized sources.  We apologize for the past. We were unaware of many of these aspects and concerns, and therefore we did not respect other's work as we should have done.
First, we would like to thank those who contributed to the project and gave us help, support, ideas or made their assets available.  We all know that without the brilliant creations of this site, YAP RW could not even exist.  So for that, I extend my sincere thanks to CombatACE for being such a great source of top quality works and talented modders.
For this release, we have paid special attention to the Credit List, doing our best to cite authors and ensure proper credit has been given.  We realize that with all the complexities and edits that have been done, it’s very possible we may have forgotten to include credits for certain works or there may be inaccuracies with our source citations.  If that is the case, please let us know and we will immediately correct it.
That being said, people should fully respect that all of the models/assets in our project cannot be used anywhere else without our direct permission, they remain exclusive to this project like John would have wanted but also allows us to better manage artist permissions so we hopefully don’t have any future concerns.
Please keep in mind that the YAP RW project is made by fans for fans. None of us were part of the original development team, and we never made a single cent out of the old payware products (plus we have no control over the old homepage and purchase options).  We do not have debts with anybody for the old assets bought by John Shelton during the YAP1/2/3 Era and are only looking forward at this point.
We legally bought all the 10 asset packs, installed them while still running WOV and then decided to challenge ourselves by trying a conversion to the SF2 engine.  We knew we were going to lose many unique features including aerial refueling, low clouds, carrier catapult positioning and more.  But we thought it was still worth the effort.  We worked a lot before releasing this version, but we know it is not perfect. We tried to correct all the errors, but there are bound to be mistakes and oversights and for now we feel satisfied with the current state.
If anyone has suggestions to make it better, well we are open to proposed fixes and improve what we can.  We have a group on Facebook, and because it is already well established we plan to continue to use this as a primary collaboration forum.  It's a private group, since we had to defend ourselves from hackers and so on, but the group is free and open to anyone who wants to join in. You are all welcome, just show us you want to support and appreciate the project and there will be no issues. Of course, we do not like denigrators, haters, detractors, generic trouble makers just like they are not welcomed here.
That's all. The new YAP RW version is free and is available for download on our new, independent homepage: www.yap-revamp-works.com, along with all the other chapters we revamped so far.  This version there are 102 missions (92 combat plus 10 training), all revamped in chronological order and in logical sequence: we decided to go back to the original idea of reconstructing the Vietnam Air War per year and therefore will cover the early period from 1954 to 1966.
We will be honored to hear your comments, suggestions or any screenshots or videos you might make.  And maybe you would be willing to contribute even more to the project.  Thank you for your collaboration and have a nice day in the skies.

      View File Su-17 Fitter-C V1.0
I know this has been a long way, but finally, we are releasing the first variant for the swing wing Su-17 series.
The Su-17 (Sans Suffix) is the first production swing wing series coming from the fixed wing Su-7 series, which has been in service since 1959. the plane still shared some common parts with the 7, like the tail (same as the Su-7BKL series) and fuselage fuel pipes, to mention some external ones.
The same store payload (more or less) was hanging from 6 external hardpoints, all for unguided munitions, the only real advantage with the Su-7 series is the swing wings that shortened the takeoff and landing runs.
Unless its predecessor this specific variant was not widely exported, only Egypt was provided with a few examples (named Su-17K).
CombatACE team who deserve credits on the project is mentioned below, please if someone is missing (Hey, this has more than 10 years in the making) is listed below:
      For the 3D aspects:
      Martin K. A.K.A. 76.IAP-Blackbird.

      Snailman for the references
      Soulfreak for the stencil pics
      Stary for general skinning tips
      General installation tips.
As this is a first release and the plane was operated by the Soviet Air Force, I recommend using it in the European/Asian-Ish terrains for realism.
All squadrons and decals have been verified as historical, but errors may have been made, be nice to us (me)
All of the mod folders have been arranged for you to drop them in the main game folder of your preference.
Some weapons have been made from scratch, please review what you have and what you need.
Some effects have been made, also, please back up what you have.
Su-17K as mentioned above, will be released as separated for SF2:I
Thanks to all who stayed this long with us to (hopefully) enjoy this release, we will work on the next variant as time allows, as they are in the final stages of release.

      Hello everyone,

I am  re-creating the posts after hte ideas came up about the name of proejcts and what it is about.  This project is to be known as  SF2 Avionics Community Pack (SF2:ACP for short), because the purpose of this projects is to create the assets for anyone to usse  for our mods, as well for customizing our SF2 installation.  You will need to put them into aircraft folder and customize the .ini   files, in order, for them to appear in-game.

This is what I find so enjoayble and I noticed that not many simulation does this.  This s project aims to bring the realistic, immersive expereicnes in cockpits with actual textures for radar scope, RWR, HUD, and any avionics that is currently moddable in SF2 and aircraft mods.

I will exlpain the limitation of SF2 engine, so we can get better pictures of what we can and can't do for now.  I said "for now, is becauuse I have the hope htat someday, somehow, someone manage to make it possible to make avioincs further moddable in SF2.

      1) Texture issues:  What can be done is chan ging radar scope texture.  But the problem is that, the radar symbols / lines colors can not be changed.  We are stuck with default green SF2 radar symbosl /lines / circles.  And eve with new textures, the radar lines / symbols/ shapes will be applied on top of it.  So it mean, if you have 'black line' on top of radar scope like A-4s as an exampe, the radar still overlap it.

Another issues is that, most of SF2 default aircraft does not have texture-able radar scope for 'turned off' radar, so it seem strange how CRT (texture) would suddenly show up when turnig radar on. I wished that the radar scope woudl be texture-able, so that it seem taht only radar lines / symbols / shapes would appear, therefore preserving the immersive experiences.

      2) Lighting, after attempting to use the actual colors of radar scope based on the pictures, as an example,  they usually show upup too bright comnpared ot another instructments / avionics in cockpit. So they need to be darken, in order to blend naturall in cockpits.  And another issue is radar colors of green, it need to be readable, therefore further darken the texture.  So they might will appear  darker compared to the photo.  (I am currenlty wokring on this part on both F-89s and A-4s radar scope and RWR new textures).

      3) Avionics DLLs, there are only two DLLs I believe, that we can use either one of Avionics DLL for early and modern aircraft.  But I still have the hope.  The reason why I have hope is because, I am part of the community that is modding Jane's series simulation.  That simulation is almost 30 years old and people still mods it.  It amazes me, therefore gives me hopes.

Besides the lmitation, it does not stop us from wanting to create the mods that would improve the experiences in avioincs.  What inspired me to do this, I was customizing SF2 installation for early cold war era (My favorite era), in Asia, midddle east, and other theatre, along with later cold war era, I noticed that there is always room of growth and improvement for cockpits.  That is when I came up the awy to improve F-89 series radar scope, as you can see it in another theatre abou Stary's F-89 cockpits.  Then here it is, SF2: Avionics Community Pack!

What would be great help if we can share the pictures and information on the avioinics for various planes, so we can get busy with the  avioniocs improvement.

If anyoneo have the requests for radar scope, or any avioinics improvement, it would be great help if the resources can be provided too.

The next posts will cover what I am doing with both F-89s and A-4s  gunsights, radar scope, and rwr, along with F-89's radar scope.

      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      DOWNLAOD: SF2 ACP v0.2

      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      Cheers!

      Hi,
a couple of months ago i discovered this gorgeous total conversion called "Yankee Air Pirate", and that the "REVAMP" edition for SF2 (the original one was for WOV) existed, and other awesome total conversions like "Drug Wars" and "Flight School" too, so i got ready to download them, but since i hadn't enough space at the time, i waited.
Now i come back on the website to find out all the links and pages about the revamp are gone, there's only the original ones for SF1 series.
Do anyone of you know why they're gone? Will they come back? They're maybe updating the mods?
      Thanks
