Now F-35 is in a bit of trouble
FastCargo replied to Julhelm's topic in Military and General Aviation
The USAF still wants the internal gun. In addition, both the B and C models are significantly heavier than the A model...more weight equals less range, endurance, performance, etc. That's an acceptable tradeoff for a carrier or STOVL variant, not for a land based version. FC -
I'm sorry
FastCargo replied to GodSaveTheUSA73's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Tony, Can you run Boot Camp? If so, and you have a copy of XP laying around, you can run it on a MAC with Boot Camp. There are also emulators available for Mac, but they may not perform as well. FC -
I don't know, I think being a pilot in terms of impressing women is overrated...for the most part. However, 'I fly supersonic jets' does sound sexier than 'I fill out TPS reports'... FC

Brain, Thanks for that info...I wasn't sure if that was true (about the Userlist) or not. I tend to try to make my aircraft very restricted in capabilities (weapon stations, userlists, rwr, etc) so that you see them when you should see them, don't see them when you shouldn't, and that they can't carry weapons they couldn't in the real world (ie carrying an ALCM on a Strike Eagle). I tell ya though, that userlist was a MAJOR pain when I was doing the F-5B and F-5F...it seemed like God and everybody had flown both those aircraft...but detailed info was VERY tough to find. I've got something special planned for the F-15SE to try to see if I can take the realism up another small notch. FC

Conversions: F-5F - 95% complete...awaiting tweaks for RWR/radar avionics code. F-15 family - Majority of model tweaks complete. F-15 ACTIVE remains to be converted. All models will require some ini avionics tweaks...F-15E and variants awaits avionic tweaks of NEW cockpit. F-107A - Not started yet. Releases: F-103 - 85% complete. FM at release stage, skins need redone (new mapping) but decals are good. AI behavior in general good...A2A rockets still aim short. Obviously, like all releases, will need hanger and loadout screens. F-15SE - Restarted. Dependent on completion of F-15E for cockpit. Saqheh - 90% percent complete. Similer avionics tweaks needed...maybe upgrade in HUD area needed. T-38C - 80% percent complete...needing skins, decals, an acceptable stand in cockpit. F-107C - 60% percent complete...finalize model, ini entries, new skins, decals, performance. F-108 - 55% percent complete...finalize model, ini entries, new skins, decals, performance, cockpit integration. B-70 - 50% percent complete......finalize model, ini entries, new skins, decals, performance, cockpit integration. FC

The only problem with that suggestion (which is a good one) is it would be a mighty long list.... A reminder to folks, make sure you follow Dave's checklist...take advantage of those new features (especially for RWR and radar equipped aircraft). User lists are important too...the more restrictive it is, the more realistic aircraft you'll see in theatre for single missions. Quick update to the SF2 conversion: F-5F - 95% done, just need avionics tweaks for F-5F radar/RWR entries. F-15 series - Most models complete in MAX and exported, just need ini tweaks for each particular variant...and the F-15E pit is sweet... Other stuff is SF2 native and doesn't belong in this thread. That same chart is also in the Don Logan book on the YF-17. It's funny, I have a pic somewhere of my T-38 parked next to a family model Super Hornet. It's interesting to think that in a way, the 2 aircraft are actually 'related' in terms of design. FC

Also, speaking about UCAVs, everyone seems to think they are cheap. They are most definitely NOT cheap, especially if you're designing one from scratch. And they still have significant limitations and vulnerabilities that aren't talked about too much. FC

Brain32, It's simple...the idea is not to barely win, it's to completely dominate the skies. If that means more F-22s, then so be it. Advanced tech only takes you so far. You still need numbers. And keep the discussion rational folks...lets not start getting into snide remarks. FC

At-6 and tA-6 Planes prob
FastCargo replied to dsawan's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Actually, check and see if you have a directory called TSS in your Pilots directory. List what files you have in it. Also, there is a T-6A and a AT-6B, I'm assuming your problem is with the AT-6B. FC -
If you decide to go the 'invisible link', you will have to put it into MAX. The idea is that the 'link' will have the same pivot point as the flight control surface, but will be linked between the body and the flight control. Or, as a better example in a hierarchy: Fuselage -Canard Link --Canard Assign the "Canard Link" as a Aileron and the "Canard" as an Elevator, and now you have a control that visually 'blends' both inputs. SF2 Proper Setup
FastCargo replied to warthog64's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Are you using the right version of the CAT extractor? Also, it may need to be run with Admin privledges... FC -
SF2 Proper Setup
FastCargo replied to warthog64's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
In the SF2 series, you should NEVER put modded files in the stock directories, period. That is the critical difference between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 versions of ThirdWire sims. This includes any files you extracted from the CAT files. FC -

Folks, You want a good, unbiased look at PC game piracy, read this article: http://www.tweakguides.com/Piracy_1.html Now, spend the time and read the WHOLE thing...it is several long and detailed pages. It clears up a lot of the misconceptions about DRM, copyright, piracy, etc. Don't fixate on any one part, take in the whole article. Very well researched, and full of references, links, and statistics. FC

Found this in my archives...yes, this is a real picture...and yes, this jet was flown like this until it could be painted... FC

No...never was assigned there. Of course it's possible to be a T-38 FAIP, I teach those guys all the time. As far as it being a bad thing, not really. It used to be that being a FAIP tended to put you behind your peers out there in the CAF (Combat Air Force) in terms of upgrades, etc (ie a LT going directly to F-16s from SUPT would have a 3 year jump on a guy who goes directly to a T-38 FAIP slot, because the T-38 FAIP will still have to go through all the same training his F-16 peer did). However, that really isn't true anymore because at some point, about darn near everyone gets pulled out of their weapon system to do something else, either a SUPT tour (what we nickname 'white jet' tours), Air Laison Officer (ALO - ie go play Army) tour, staff, or God forbid, a UAV tour. Because a FAIP has already done his white jet tour, he doesn't normally face that issue. So it all kind of evens out in the end. However, I wouldn't actively try to become a FAIP unless your only other option is a UAV (shudder...). Yes, we touch upon some weapons training in SUPT, but serious study doesn't really occur until IFF. FC
