  1. Well, the F-22 has 2 engines that generate over 40,000lbs each, so putting one in that heavy 105 fuselage wasn't a ridiculous idea. It just was beyond the tech of the time.

One reason the laptops may seem smoother is the resolution. What are you running your laptop at compared to desktops? My laptop is 1440x900 (I could've upgraded it to an even higher res, but this was already an upgrade, I think 1200x800 was stock?), but my desktop is 1280x1024. Now in my case, we're talking about only a mere 15000 pixel difference, but some people have widescreen monitors running at 1680 x 1050 (which is 450,000 pixels more), 1920 x 1080 (700,000 more), or 1920 x 1200 (1,000,000 more). Since ED's sims are very CPU-bound, higher res needs more CPU power. The only thing a bigger video card gives you is the ability to crank up the FSAA.
  3. Flying the Su-25T is no laughing matter! I think it starts to fall apart at 300kts.
  4. A lot of people were hoping for more releases, either new planes for AF or an F5. Instead, despite their talk of better-than-expected sales and such, after the last patch was released they had all of 1 update on their site (saying happy new year in I think 2008) and that's it. I remember the guy doing PR/tech support for it at SimHQ was very active, then suddenly was rarely around, and the last time I saw him post he no longer had the "lead pursuit" attached to his user name. I asked about that, but he never replied or seemed to return again. That was an ill omen.

Oh wow, Dave has the exact same laptop I do, except I still have Vista SP2 on mine. It never even occurred to me to try and run LOMAC on it, though, mainly because I can't hook my HOTAS up to it where it is. Anyway, I just upgraded to a 5850 this weekend and have yet to try FC2 with it, but I played DCS:BS and it was fine.
  6. I don't have a fave, I like them all! If you're asking what I'm flying most right NOW, that would be a mix between WWI and modern (thanks to LOMAC, DCS, and F4). I've done tons of WWII flying over the years, with Il-2 being the only thing I'm still flying, but not too often. Before FE2 came out, I was spending a bit more time in the Vietnam era with the SF2 titles. As for Korea, I never had MiG Alley, so other than that one CFS3 mod and some mods for TW sims (I don't think I ever got the Korea terrain installed, though, just some planes), it would have to be Chuck Yeager's Air Combat c.1991 the last time I had a sim that actually had Korea OOTB.
  7. What you guys don't realize is that the admins have to sit at their PCs all day and night and click "send" when you want to DL a file. That's over 3 million mouse clicks on our parts, so show that gratitude!!
  8. Looks like the beginnings of a time tunnel mod. Are you making the TARDIS??
  9. XP doesn't get a true "upgrade", it will wipe and restart the install. Only Vista can be upgraded (by that I mean your programs are still there). I do know you can't upgrade a 64-bit Vista to 32-bit 7 or vice versa, either. You have to do a fresh install when changing that.
  10. I tried it, but I dumped it because of other changes they made to the AI. I found it basically impossible to win against them under any circumstances on "normal" difficulty, which is ridiculous. I liked the new maps and Russian units, but screwing with the AI was unforgivable.
  11. I guess it came under fire.
  12. Correction, you could get a family license. I got one back in November. However, they're all gone now AFAIK because MS stopped making them. The only ones out there are those still in the channel/unpurchased, and I think those are scarce.
  13. I can't think of too many diplomat/stand-up comedians, actually. Also, it's not like Arabs are world-renowned for their humor.
  14. I'm not sure. I tried running Il-2 (the old FB version) on my father-in-law's PC which had Intel integrated...it ran...and looked...like crap. Basically never broke 10 fps and looked like 1996.
  15. That's why I like the Genie...who needs accurate guidance anyway?? BOOM!
  16. Maybe he was interested in the fictional improvement of the fictional service variant that would be fictionally better, improving on the fictional weaknesses turned up in its fictional baptism of fire in SE Asia (non-fiction).
  17. I was just wondering, is the M-21/D-21 setup possible with SF2?
  18. Yes, I remember BMS was around before F4:AF was released.
  19. Another day older and deeper in debt...
  20. As mentioned, it hasn't aired here yet but count me in as among the wary. I thought the Eccleston -> Tennant shift was positive, but the guy behind the scenes didn't change. Now we have basically a total reboot and those usually don't end up well when what came before was so good. For Kevin, FWIW I heard Primeval was done.
  21. I've also had moderate battle damage result in later engine failure. Whether due to fuel shortage or some other problem that worsened over time. However, most of the time when I'm hit it's time to eject before an unseen fire blows me up (that has happened several times)!
  22. No, can't say I am! I have that classic pub 4-volume set on the me-262, but that's it for that plane! I'm more a "survey" kind of guy as opposed to "study."
  23. Well, it's STILL not confirmed, just more likely than before...I guess.

FC2 is built on the updated DCS version, though, so I'm not sure how much that applies.
