It fortunately sounds like it wasn't a TO/landing incident but rather an "everyone out because we can't land/make it back" incident, which implies better conditions for survival.

I believe you need to use Modman. Most LOMAC mods do.

I'm just struggling to get my G940 HOTAS mapped for it properly. Ironically, it would've been very easy with my old Cougar because of the difference in how things are mapped.

I bought it at release and am almost burned out on it at this point! Especially as I was playing L4D1 until the day before, and while things were added it's not like it's a different game. Right now I'm waiting for the DLC campaign to come out.

Frankly, yes, the West can't win this one. If we expect the "hearts and minds" campaign to work, it has to be done by other cultures closer to theirs than ours is. That means more than half-hearted work by Iran and Pakistan and the Afghani tribes. It also means a fundamental shift in mentality for them. Why is it that a Moslem will see an attack against another Moslem, even one living half a world away in a totally different culture, to be "an attack against your brother" or "all Islam"? You don't see any of the other religions thinking that way to the extent of sacrificing themselves in suicide gestures. Sure you'll see financial support and so on, but the difference in Islamic thinking puzzles me. For 8 years Iran and Iraq fought and you didn't hear a peep out of Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, etc. As soon as a non-Islamic country gets involved, though, it's "the Crusades all over again!" and the wackjobs incite the weak-minded to fight against the oppressors. I mean, all these countries willing to fight Israel over Palestine, but not one willing to let them resettle in their own country? "We will give money, weapons, even fight and die to get your land back! But, no, we don't want you living next door to us, UGH."

Well, the UK would've been out of it, hard to say what would've happened then. Germany might have gone it alone or kept going with Italy. If it did go alone, my guess is Italy would've bought a US design instead as well, or whatever Germany made, as their own indigenous industry was already hard pressed to make something on their own at that point and AFAIK Italy has never bought a Dassault.

Well, with advanced weapons systems any platform can be deadly. I guess the main thing is survivability in case of combat damage in this case, looking less robust than competing designs.

No plan ever used against a nation-state (like Japan, Germany, etc) will ever work against an insurgency/terrorist group like the Taliban or Al-Qaeda. At no point will these insurgencies ever believe they've been conquered, there's no "marching on the Al-Qaeda capital". Japanese and German soldiers stopped fighting when they heard their leaders surrendered and were ordered to stop fighting. No Taliban or Al-Qaeda leader will surrender or offer cease-fire, so you can kill all of them you want but the ones that are left will keep fighting and recruiting new fighters and taking over as leaders. They have religious fanaticism behind them which gives each fighter a personal stake in their battle that no amount of killing their comrades-in-arms will overcome. The ONLY way to "win" is to make them want to stop fighting. Assuming that what worked against one culture will work against another is the very reason we were so screwed in the Iraq invasion in the first place, assuming they'll be dancing in the streets and peace will reign by the end of 2003. Personally, I think giving money to them is NOT the way to change their minds, but the problem is they're so insular I just can't imagine what will. You convince 5 of them to change heart, the others all assume they've been coerced or "possessed" or whatever and ignore them. The left thinks making nice will make them want to stop, but it won't because they'll assume it's all lies and won't trust it. The right thinks more killing will make them want to stop, but it won't because that just reaffirms their belief that they must fight on and they'll recruit more and more.

If by "piracy" you mean "buying illegal DVDs for cheap", no, that's not a big problem in the US. Here it's all about the internet downloading.

The F-15 2-seater was just a trainer at the time, but as events shook out the Beagle came along 15 years later anyway. There's no reason it couldn't have arrived sooner had the UK asked. The F-14 was the most likely because the Phoenix would've helped immeasurably, but there's no way to know if they'd have chosen it.

If someone doesn't like you, it doesn't matter what you do or suffer, you're in the wrong, and those who are against you or hurt you, no matter what they've done, are in the right or victims or whatever. People don't want to admit there is no objective "right" or "wrong", perhaps because of their religions, but it's all subjective. Islam can say "we preach not to hurt the innocent", then you can have any old wackjob claim "these people aren't innocent because of this lame line of reasoning" and off they go killing innocents! The very fact that religions do NOT practice tolerance but are instead "all our way or total damnation" is why we have these issues.

That nutcase can't croak soon enough. Sure there may be a power struggle, but it CAN'T be worse afterwards.

Last I heard it had been pushed back again, but was close. I expect it in less than a few months, but still a ways out. I think Wags posted an update at lockon.ru not long ago.

AGP has become a real rarity now. There aren't any new cards out there that use it, and I'm not sure what the highest level was. I think ATI made some X1350s in AGP a couple of years back, but they might have been in Europe only. I think you're going to have to go to ebay to find an AGP card, but because they're rare you'll likely end up paying more than it's really worth. On the flipside, you could probably upgrade that old P4 to something newer and faster with a PCI Express slot for not too much...oh, you'll need new RAM most likely too. So, you need a new mobo, RAM, CPU, and video card pretty much. Ouch.

Thanks for posting my desktop as well, shotdown. That first one is mine for a couple of years now.

I'll always remember him from The Greatest American Hero which I watched every week as a kid. While I know he's done some other things recently, like a role on Everyone Loves Raymond I think, the last thing I saw him do was Dr Breen in HL2.
