  1. Why do I get images of Dennis Hopper with an eyepatch and Kevin Costner with gills when I see this??
  2. Of course the real 31 was just a redone 25, but I remember some early DoD "impressions" of the MiG-29 looked like a cross between the real 29 and 31. That plane of course never was made. The real 29 surprised a lot of people, as did the Su-27. I was impressed with one aspect of the Firefox design, though, and that was that they kept MiG's signature tailfin design. Put it in a sideview comparison with a real Flogger, Foxbat, Foxhound, or Fulcrum and it's the same tailfin.
  3. The UK version was "killing you"? I'm not sure what that means! I've got a copy of the German DVD patched to 1.05 which allows playing in any language (just change language= in the .cfg file) and it's great. We have found a line or two in the profile file WRT enemy abilities--enemySkill and enemy Precision. The first is how smart they are, the 2nd is how well they shoot. By default, both start at .85. That is pretty much godlike. I've got mine lowered to about .33 and the game is so much more enjoyable as you live longer. You might think that at 1/3 of max they'd be a pushover, but far from it. I find it a decent challenge now. Maybe one day I'll push it all the way up to .5!
  4. If you got the digital DL of the final version, it has everything but the copies of the older games, which are on the 2nd DVD. As for the individual ones, I don't know. I never went that route (DLing Pe-2, DLing Sturm, DLing 46) so I can't say one way or another if you could skip or if getting one included others.
  5. You say WOE, but you posted in the LOMAC forum. Which sim are you referring to? In LOMAC there is some cockpit/gear movement when applying the brakes, but it's nowhere near as well modeled as the 2 Su-25s have it with their AFM's. In WOE, the ground handling is far simplified because the developer didn't have the resources to devote to everything, and instead certain areas were concentrated on while others, such as MP and ground handling, were left minimal.
  6. The Jane's games are all very old now, the last was released in 2000 I think. You may have to go to ebay or find someone willing to sell their old copy somewhere to get a hold of them. As for those 2 you listed, well, you've picked the hardest prop sim and hardest jet sim available to start with! For training, they both come with training missions that are very good actually. Spend time with them until you can do them like clockwork. For the record, I got F4 in 1998 and Il-2 in 2001 and I'm still pretty bad at both of them.
  7. My wife has watched a few of these but she always gets upset at them. "They totally missed that, right there!" "How can they expect to find anything clunking and banging around like that? Why can't they move around quietly??"
  8. I'm always behind on comics. I always only find out about them well after their publication and then they get hard to find.
  9. Yes, that site has a link to the site I was thinking of, xwaupgrade! I WILL get to do that someday. Too bad the only SW games on the horizon now are announced for consoles only.
  10. No idea here, but this a prime reason I'm sticking to air cooling. The very idea of water cooling scares me!
  11. That doesn't make any sense. The "official" story is going to contradict footage already seen?
  12. Unfortunately, info seems hard to come by. However, we'll likely have volunteers to do a review ASAP.
  13. Ok, so I thought it fitting to discuss what SW games we're all playing. Or perhaps I should say still playing as not many have been released lately. I've been meaning to reinstall XW Alliance and start modding it up as I've not played the game in probably 6 years! I have played Battlefront 1 and 2, and still have 2 installed, as at least there's some fighters in it. The infantry combat is also pretty good, but the Jedis are a joke. For great lightsaber combat, I have Jedi Academy still installed. There are tons of mods for this as well. It maybe 3.5 yrs old, but it still rocks. On the RPG front, KOTOR 1 and 2 are great games. K2 is of course that grand disappointment, starting out to be far better than 1 and finishing up as far less. Still, it's possible to see what K2 could've been and I like it for that. For RTS fans, SW: Empire at War and the Forces of Corruption addon are excellent games. Really looks like massive battles from the films at times! The older Galactic Battlegrounds I still enjoy, even though it's purely land-based and has some issues as the thing is more or less a giant Age of Kings mod. The other game I have right now is Lego Star Wars 2, and I'll tell you this thing is FUN.
  14. In the book "The Sixth Battle" they do indeed retrofit Bones with Slammer capability and use a flight of them to take out a massive Russian force. The Russians are dumbstruck because F-16s couldn't have reached them where they were, yet that's what their RWRs are telling them are attacking them!
  15. Contrails may happen at high altitudes. The U-2 had a rear-view mirror expressly for that purpose--to see if one was being generated so the pilot could do something about it!
  16. He almost made it sound like the ailerons weren't moving differentially but linked. So that for instance, push stick left and BOTH went up, push stick right and BOTH went down.
  17. You crazy line-drawer!!!
  18. Everything exploded?? Wow, I'd like to see that!
  19. That's good to know.
  20. Of course you can, but what about the bombs?
  21. LOL, I was just thinking you could edit that to read: DamagedEngineSoundName=PropEngine Everything is fine, but if you get hit you suddenly sound like you're flying a piston-engined plane!
  22. While not convinced of its efficacy in real world ops, it certainly LOOKS awesome.
  23. I just don't have one yet! I'm still learning all of them.
  24. They realized that the Comanche would drop from an RPG just as easily as an Apache but at much greater cost. I was very sad when Razorworks was bought and turned into a console-game house. I'm pleased someone else has taken up the torch.
  25. Finally, Godzilla can now play golf!
