  1. Yeah, if we're lucky it will get ported over to PC later. If not, I may just finally get a console to play it.
  2. Not all of them. There are a few changes here and there. I think there was a document included in one of the directories that highlighted the changes. I'd say roughly 25-33% of the commands got changed in some way, but the weapons ones are the most notable.
  3. RB2/3D had a massive development team and a much larger budget than FE. For what was available FE has accomplished volumes. The lack of RB's awesome dynamic campaign isn't easily overcome...I loved the transfers around the front and ace challenges and such (and missed the infantry when 3D came out)...but as said, RB3D is basically a decade old now. Technology has marched on and the code for RB really can't keep pace. I really wish someone would take the source code to RB and do a "BoB2" with it, incorporating all the improvements made by the community in the last decade and updating it to a modern DX9 renderer, but that won't happen. I also doubt we'll ever see another Red Baron game from Sierra. Instead, we have FE, the OFF mod, and KotS to look forward to.
  4. I work for USAFSPC and we've been told we'll be going to Vista soon enough. That's right, we launch billion-dollar rockets and we're going to Vista. Your taxpayer money is in good hands.
  5. In most games collision models are vastly simplified. You couldn't do things in game that they could do in real life because in the games the planes either simply explode on contact or they shatter at the slightest touch. I was watching that "Dogfights" show on the History Channel, and in the MiG Alley episode there's a story of how a pilot PUSHED his fuel-leaking wingman to friendly territory so he could bail out safely over water. Unfortunately, the pilot got tangled in the chute lines and drowned, but the technique worked for those F-86's. He hooked the top of his nose inlet into the bottom of the other's tail exhaust and gently bumped it along. Try that in ANY sim and you'll get destruction.

  7. Well, there's 2 kinds of stealth...there's "strategic" stealth (for lack of a better term) where the plane isn't detected, and the only indication it's there is the destruction of the target. Then there's "tactical" stealth (again, I'm just coining these on the fly) where the target can be detected on EWRs or other "detection only" radars, but is unable to be tracked by tracking radars and therefore no RH missiles, AAMs or SAMs, can hit it. Unless you're on a mission with deniability, generally speaking it doesn't matter if they can see you if they can't hit you. Of course, the old adage is if you can see it, you can hit it, but that was in the days before guided weapons.

  9. I'm not certain if they've changed or not, actually. However, ArmA is a great game even with its flaws, although I don't see why it took so long to get made given how much of OFP is still there---like all of it.
  10. You took "about 612" pictures? That's a pretty odd approximation. Are you SURE it wasn't 613 or 611??
  11. Well, FE certainly works the video card harder than SFP1. Do you have any other games more graphically demanding than FE? I'd almost suspect an overheat situation but if you've got some heavier hitters than FE that work ok, than it's likely not. Troubleshooting error-less freezes is the worst thing in the world...

  14. You may have to manually specify which directory to put it in if it defaults to SFP1 or WoV, but that's all.
  15. Well, may I suggest OFP and Armed Assault, where you can get shot down and then fight an infantry battle? The air side of things is limited, of course.

  17. Freezing as in you need to hit reset to get it going again, or you can alt-tab/ctrl-alt-del out of it? Generally speaking screen freezes that require power/reset are video and/or sound related. You didn't say CTD so I'm guessing that's not what's happening to you.
  18. Only other sims with the F-15 I remember were Israeli AF and USAF, and Fighter Anthology, all by Jane's/EA, and the F-15 Strike Eagle series by MPS.

  20. Of course, the famous part is McD said the plane couldn't fly that way, then were astonished to see it did.

  23. I honestly haven't tried the AV8 yet so I don't know what it can or can't do in game. However, I see that it's the AV-8B+ version with the F-16's APG-66 radar vs the AV-8B Night Attack which has a laser in the nose, so maybe that pod gives it back the abilities lost by the radar-equipped version. Whether it designates or seeks-only, I don't know.
  24. It's possible there are wingtip rails in development along with the underwing pylons for "post-zero hour days" sorties when stealth is no longer as important and a larger weapons load is. I've just not heard of any so far.
  25. Short answer: SOME planes have a mappable control for canopy open/shut, SOME do not and never will. Engines will not shut off unless TK patches the game to do so, same thing with bailing animations.
