  1. Yup. You win. C-64 was my first machine. Played the crap out of Strike Eagle....
  2. Can't believe how many old farts there are here (myself included.) I'm trying to figure out if there is some significance to this.
  3. Agree with all. Very good work. Just downloaded it and will try to get some stick time this weekend. The talent and dedication of the modders who work on this sim is absolutely incredible.
  4. Hard to believe...... As a hard core simmer and aviation historian I was thrilled to see the aircraft of the 60's modelled in a sim. I remember reading National Geographic articles during the Vietnam War and wondering what it would be like to fly those Phantoms, Crusaders and Skyhawks. My first exposure to the Thunderbirds was when they were flying the F-100 and I had a toy F-100 that I played with constantly as a kid. As an IT guy, I found it encouraging that the elements of the sim were so accessible to modding. Even without a mission editor it is fairly easy to work up a decent mission, TK appears to have made custom paint jobs fairly easy to do (not my forte, though..) and the wealth of add-on aircraft while not as prolific as MS sims is still remarkable. I won't get into it more than this but there are some sim devs that could learn a lot from TK's biz model. My most flown sims at this point are the TW series, TAW and Jane's F-15. Eye candy is nice but I have a fairly modest machine based on today's standards and I've been doing this for long enough to appreciate content more than glitz.
  5. That's sort of what I'm trying to do. Can I make some of these interior views less dark?
  6. It is impressive that the first few shots could be taken for screenshots from FE. Once you start seeing the terrain it begins to sink in these are the real thing. Nice collection of planes.
  7. I would think so too, but I can tell a difference between the F-15A and the Intruder for instance. The Eagle does not seem to have any "tint" to the canopy while the Intruder has a fairly significant tint. I am also referring to the view from inside the aircraft. Hitting the '.' (remove cockpit) key shows the tint's effect pretty well. I have found reference to a CanopyGlass.tga in the LOD. Mucking with that does not seem to help. I'll look for canopy.tga as well.
  8. Sorry if I missed this in the KB.... I have been struggling with the "dark" color of the canopy on some of the TW aircraft. I have explored the skin folders for the aircraft in question and cannot for the life of me find a TGA that controls the canopy color. Is it possible for the canopy lod to have a "tint" defined that cannot be overridden? (Short of hacking the LOD, of course.) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. KK
  9. Wings Over Israel
  10. ......as the thread continues to degenerate...................... Actually, Wings Over India might be interesting from a historical perspective.
  11. Wings Over Iowa
  12. The only practical way to do this would be to have the cars be computer controlled in certain classes of airspace. Having folks flying around willy-nilly would be a disaster waiting to happen. Of course, if you get out of crowded airspace you might be able to allow folks "manual" control of the thing. We're probably at the "automobiles will never replace horses" stage of this debate. We may never see true flying cars but we may end up seeing something we can't imagine yet as a result of all the research.
  13. Yes, I can believe that. Damn it. I manage to survive until the 21st century and I still don't have my jetpack or flying car.
  14. The real thing or a sim thereof?
  15. http://www.defencetalk.com/news/publish/ai...aq100014103.php Good stuff for 'hog fans....
  16. How heavy is that thing?
  17. They are excellent helicopter sims, but I alway find myself playing something else. I am not sure I have heard of any mods. I'll have to re-install and poke around a bit to see if they lend themselves to that. They did some good stuff to overcome the problems with flying a helicopter with only a monitor as your window to the world. The "DOWN" view and auto-hover can be a real help when landing. They also put out an Apache sim that, while good in the FM dept, was kind of an arcade game in terms of weapons and missions. Again, nothing really compelling about the title to bring me back to it.
  18. And this is how WWIII starts...........................
  19. I disagree with it from a philosophical standpoint, but I have had 0 technical issues with the download version.
  20. I thought one major reason was that the terrain is modified so that standard SFP1 campaigns and missions will not work.
  21. Reminds me of the dropship from Aliens. Actually, anybody done a dropship?? "Express elevator to hell!!"
  22. Agreed. I just installed in on my XP laptop and it worked fine. I think I did read somewhere that you should uncheck the MUSIC option when you do the install on XP.
  23. Check the F-22 Total Air War forum over at www.simhq.com Have you tried running it in compat mode?
  24. How do you get that very useful display???? Sorry if I missed the memo.....
