  1. Update on the A-6A canopy.... It is definitely in the cockpit LOD where this is being done. The stock WOV A-6 has a perfectly clear, beautiful canopy view but once you apply the patches it goes dark. Extracting and copying the stock cockpit LOD to the cockpit folder of a patched WOV/WOE install removes the darkness but I don't know what it might screw up. (I was expecting a CTD or something but it works just fine.) I guess I should go poke around the TW forums......
  2. Happy Birthday, indeed! When I was 27 I was playing Microprose Strike Eagle on my C64. Those WERE the days!
  3. http://alt.coxnewsweb.com/ajc/swf/blueangels/blueangels.swf Having done acrobatics once I can relate to this. I maxed at about 3 g and did OK. Can't imagine 7. Enjoy!
  4. I take it these are not endorsed by the United State Air Force?
  5. Well, I figured out the issue with the Korea Air War F-86's anyway. FastCargo gave me the hint. The dark tint for those planes is part of the F86_reflection TGAs. Delete the TGAs from the texture folders and it removes the reflections AND the dark tint. I realize this is somewhat a matter of taste but I just prefer my canopys without tint or reflections. Not sure if anyone else has this issue..... Now the A-6A is another issue...... Probably something similar but still have not figure it out yet. What I AM pretty sure of is that the CanopyGlass.TGA does NOT control the tint you see on the inside of the cockpit. It does control the color of the canopy from the external view.
  6. Very nice work! Just keeps getting better and better...
  7. Ok. I'm new at this....... I'll see what I can do. What I don't quite understand yet..... Is there a separate canopyglass.tga for each aircraft?
  8. Cheers! 38. A mere child.
  9. Me, too. I usually resort to turning off the cockpit via numpad '.'.
  10. I used Paint Shop Pro to set the dimensions of the TGA file to 1x1. Seems to work fine. I understand the reflections add some realism but I find them a little annoying myself. Seems to have absolutely no effect on the "tint" one way or the other.
  11. Ok. I realize this is somewhat of a dead horse but I still can't figure out how to reduce the "darkness" of some of the canopy glass renderings. I saw the bit about the trick of "moving" the glass out of the way but I was looking for a simpler alternative. The REAL gist of my question is: "Can the color of the canopy be controlled in the 3D definition of the cockpit (I.E. the cockpit LOD file)?" Which, in effect, makes in difficult to change. I have a couple of planes where I have mucked and mucked with the canopy TGA files to no avail. I have disabled the "reflection" TGAs. (Which DOES remove the reflections but does not affect the "tinting" of the glass. Anyway, if I just knew that the "tint" can be controlled by the LOD file I will at least know what the basic issue is. Thanks!!
  12. I suspect that TK is already in the loop regarding issues of this type. Have you tried the forums over at www.thirdwire.com?
  13. Agreed. I have a Intel P4 2.6 Ghz machine with 2Gb RAM and a Gforce 6800GT 256M. I run on mainly "medium" setting but I do allow myself the luxury of HIGH cockpit textures. That being said, I still think the TW series looks pretty darned good. I also play the TW sims a lot more than some other "eye candy" sims I own. Graphics are not a the top of my "must have" list. Hell, I still play and enjoy EAW, Total Air War and Red Baron.
  14. Well, then, here is a couple of pretty good shots. http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1075073/L http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1082644/L
  15. Yes, I should have clarified that I understood that the "E" was an export only aircraft. IF a "C" is in the works (which would not be hard to do if you have an "E" already) I can sure wait. Thanks, guys!
  16. Now that we have the excellent IAF RF-4E, was anyone thinking of doing some USAF skins for it? I would love to have a Nebraska ANG RF-4C for my collection. I was thinking of asking the MF if I could use their F-4G skin as a starting place. (I don't mind doing the work; just not my forte....) On the other hand if someone already has something in progress I would not want to duplicate efforts.
  17. "Wrong switch....."
  18. While the Thirdwire sims have been unjustly accused by being "arcady" WoW definitely seems to fit that definition. It is a beautiful game graphically but FE is much more of a real sim than WoW. There used to be a forum over at SimHQ.com about it but I can't find it now. The review at Gamespot sums it up very well. If you can pick it up cheap it's worth getting.
  19. I have worked in IT for over 30 years and since day one the rule has been: YOU CAN'T HAVE TOO MUCH MEMORY!!!!!!!!! Ok, well, except for Windows 98 which has issues with memory over 512M..... But with just about any other OS (mainframe, UNIX, Windows XP and beyond) more memory is goodness.
  20. You're kidding, right? http://www.fox.com/24/
  21. Well, that, too. Yank and bank, baby! Yank and bank!
  22. CH. They are a little more pricey but you can beat the living crap out of them for years and they keep going. They are easy to program if you don't want anything fancy.
  23. I have copied the CAT file and extractor to a new folder and worked from there. Not as clean as having an option to put the stuff elsewhere but it works.
  24. Booze is not really a good solution long term. Are you a back sleeper or side sleeper? It took me a looooooooong time to find out I fall asleep faster on my side than my back. I would talk to your doctor before self-medicating too much. I agree. Warm milk sounds like a cliche but it does seem to work. Good luck.
