  1. YOu can modify any of the .dll files to your hearts content....if you want a non-operable game, that is. The .dll files are subject to a CRC check when the game starts. If they're not what the engine expects to see, the game will crash.
  2. Course drift due to wind is modeled in the series. As Stary pointed out, one must run at 8x time acceleration to really notice it.
  3. If it came with an OEM computer, chances are that it's proprietary to that manufacturer (and possibly, that system), and won't easily install on anything but that same manufacturer's PCs. This started with Windows XP, as Micro$oft was upset at the number of gray-market copies of Windows and Office that were available online and at computer shows.
  4. ZU-23 are direct fire weapons. They do not use fused rounds.
  5. Nope...it's volume of AAA per given area. I've exceeded anything you've ever seen (in YAP or otherwise) on several occasions, and Wrench's Korea terrain has surpassed even that, almost to the point of insanity.
  6. 1) The Yaw angle rate is too low for a mobile (ship based) SAM system in this series. Try upping it to 90 degrees/sec. This may not be 100% accurate, but it's a necessary compromise if you want realistic SAM defenses. 2) You may be expecting to engage targets out to 120 km, but not with a radar that's limited to an engagement range of 20 km (as is in the case with your settings). In real life, the first model Sea Dart's max effective range is probably closer to 35 nm, only the newer variants meet the 120-150 km range criteria. 3) You have no noise and counter-measure rejection values listed. In short, "You Jam, no SAM". 4) That ship's data.ini needs to be updated to SF2 standards, as it's lacking radar frequency values, a radar family name, etc. 5) The booster values are way too high, as are the sustainer values. These effect it's engagement envelope, and grossly limit the missile's maneuverability. Try cutting the booster values down to 10 Gs, and the sustainer values to 0.5 (it's a ramjet, after all), and work up from there. 6) Research, research, research! Do your research, otherwise, you'll wind up with what we refer to as another "CCNO"
  7. Probably not. You see, ThirdWire time is extremely elastic in nature...
  8. Open cockpit parameter
  9. Once the missile is "released" (at a setting of zero) if it's not tracking at that very instant, it will "fall" and explode on the launcher. The release delay value appears to have has nothing to do with when a missile is launched, simply the absolute maximum delay between firing and launch sequences.
  10. Perhaps to prevent the misiles from blowing up on the launcher?
  11. Doesn't the percentage of head bob ingame depend on the tunes one's listening to at the time?
  12. All effects in a default install are located in the flightdata.cat. When you installed the 2008 patch, all the .cat files were overwritten with newer versions. Hence, you cannot go back to using the "old" ones, unless you're willing to go through a rather long and tedious process. And that involves uninstalling the entire sim, installing and patching it to the previous ('06) patch level, extracting all the necessary effects tga and particlesystem files, placing them into the appropriate folders, and patching the game back up to the '08 level. This assumes, of course, that you're knowledgeable enough to understand exactly what's involved, and what you're doing. And even then, you may run into some issues, as the newer graphics.dll demands some editing of the aforementioned particlesystem.ini...so you may wind up going back to square one. Best solution? Either tone down the graphics, or upgrade your system, or don't install the '08 patch.
  13. Try lowering it to 0 and enjoy what happens after you do...
  14. The difference is that, nowadays Dave always feels as if he's just endured a 46 G deceleration, whereas Colonel Stapp actually did, and simply took it in stride.
  15. The absolute best Crazy Eddie ad, performed by Sha Na Na, back in 1978. Man does that bring back memories. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbyBbl7kGNc&feature=related
  16. I-Hawks, SP-Hawks, and later varients, are all out there. If I'm not mistaken, Wrench uploaded them.

    NEW rifle

Valmet produced an accurate weapon using the Kalishnakov-style action (the M76), chambered for both 7.62 and 5.56 NATO rounds. And, it's almost laser-beam accurate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valmet_M76
  18. In reality, there should be at least two versions of the F-14A cockpit. An early one with a vector RWR, and a later version upgraded with a TEWS RWR receiver. The '14B and 'D sported a TEWS set.
  19. No, we're talking about Eddie Antar: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crazy_Eddie
  20. I knew someone who worked at one of his stores, in NJ. The stories he told me about "returned" and "defective" merchandise being counted as new inventory would have been humorous, if it wasn't for the legal ramifications of what was going on. Still, he got some great employee discounts from them.
  21. I'm well aware of that, and have been a member of Subsim.com for quite some time, though I've forgotten my logon there, and had to create a new account, Now that would be interesting....a mix of older GUPPY-style boats, early nuke boats, and sonars that were not far removed from WWII systems.
  22. Cockpit lighting is coded to come on at "night", by this seting in the cockpit.ini file: NightLightOn=0.25 Lowering the value to less than "0.25", will force the lighting to come on earlier.
  23. After reminiscing about my experiences as a volunteer at the NJ Naval museum (back in 1980 & 1981), and after re-reading Harry Homewood's novel "Silent Harbor", I developed a yen to try a WW2 sub sim. So I picked up SH4, After installing a few mods, and creating a few of my own, I must say that I've really gotten into this title. What distresses me, is our SH forums, here at CombatAce..... Namely, how empty they are.
  24. It's not that simple, one needs to save it as a 32-bit tga, in order to have the proper transparency. Paint.net does so as the default setting.
