Hudson River collision video
Fubar512 replied to ShinKazama88's topic in Military and General Aviation
That area can get congested, as there's TCAs for three major airports, and one for Teteboro, as well. Hell, the approach for runway 29 into EWR goes RIGHT OVER the statue of Liberty Have you ever flown into EWR, Harold? -
Ed Rasimus, in his book "When Thunder Rolled", speaks of hitting 600 KIAS in a clean '105D in full military, in a shallow dive, while pulling out of weapons delivery run, and of once seeing 750 knots on the deck, in full AB. The G-model sported the J-75-19W, which was more powerful, than the power plant in Rasimus's D-model.

Thud-G of the 17th Wild Weasel Squadron, assigned to the 388th TFW, circa 1972. Almost done tweaking the FM, will do 560 knots clean in full military on the deck, 760+ knots in full ab. I need to reposition the tail code decal. Malibu, I'm making up an orange-smoke booster effect for your SA-2s...

Dawn and dusk: sun shines through cockpit structure and gauges
Fubar512 replied to stingray77's topic in General Discussion
I've never encountered that, in my almost 7 years of tweaking this series. -
That file has been out of use for over three years, now. Properly configured ground objects no longer require anything else, other than being placed in the groundobjects subfolder.

"Blurry" transition from jungle canopy to sky

My fav is "plucking" high tension wires in FC, like banjo strings...they even make a twanging sound when you hit one just right with your vert stab -
"Blurry" transition from jungle canopy to sky
Fubar512 replied to stingray77's topic in General Discussion
Trees and most buildings in Thirdwire titles are rendered as alpha objects, which means that they do not have defined collision points (which would require a data.ini for each type). No biggie, trees in LOMAC, for example, are handled the same way. -
67? I've seen 71 with zero issues.

One of my first IT positions found me managing a small team of techs, who were tasked with refurbishing and upgrading Compaq desktops for a major client. We'd receive the systems at our facility by the pallet load. It was SOP in the beginning to blow out the systems before we started working on them, with cans of compressed air. We were going through several cases of compressed air per month, and we were paying insane amounts of money for them. I convinced the powers-that-be to purchase an inexpensive, electric leaf-blower. The leaf blower did a much better job, never sprayed condensation onto the motherboards, CPUs, and PSUs, and cost less than a case of compressed air cans, to boot. It never damaged any systems, and it throughly blew out all dirt and dust in a fraction of the time. My employers were happy, my team was more productive, and our QC inspector was impressed. Getting back to your issue. You are better off with positive pressure (more intake fans), then you are with negative pressure (exhaust fans). Negative pressure draws dust and dirt into a system, through every nook and cranny. Positive pressure can be controlled (the intakes can be filtered), and it prevents dust from being drawn in through those same nooks and crannys. If I were you, I'd get a hole saw, bore a hole through the side panel, and mount a 92 or 120 MM fan, level with the GPU fan. Also, go to EVGA's site, and download the EVGA Precision tool (it works on all new nVidia cards). The Precision tool will allow you to manually set the GPU's fan speed (among other things).

One of the questions that keeps coming up, is "Does the Thirdwire series have X,Y, or Z axis trim, and if so, how do you work it?". Well, officially, it does not, and as of the most recent patches, auto-trim was added to the series, and is set by the individual aircraft, in it's flight model (data.ini). For our purposes, however, lets discuss how to simulate trim, and map it to a controller. The basics of setting up "trim" can be found here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?s=&am...ost&p=56813 Once you've performed the edits that were spelled out in the link above, simply start the game, go to options, control, scroll, "customize", and scroll down to the Flight Commands section. Once there, it's rather simple to map the control axis to a hat switch. Below, is how I did so on my Thrustmaster Cougar. Please note, That I cannot tell you how to do it on every stick and HOTAS setup out there, as they are are all different, and you'll need to experiment on your own.

Yes, models with advanced avionics (well, as advanced as you can have in WoE, anyway) will work in WoV.

Couple of effects editing questions...
Fubar512 replied to malibu43's topic in Mods/Skinning Discussion
1) 23 MM was a contact-fused round. It wasn't set up to "airburst". Volume, Rate, and Lifetime all have an effect on the airbirst-size as does the .tga itself (to a lesser extent). 2) Edit the .tga color -
When patched to the current level, they're all the same in that respect. WoV is a historical sim (like FE), and that is therefore reflected in the default planeset, and in their avionics.
-
1) Open up your case, take it outside, and carefully blow it out with a leaf-blower. Make sure that you get all the dust bunnies out of the CPU color, GPU color, and the PSU. 2) Try to set up two of the existing fans as intakes 3) Place some foam filtering media (such as one would use for AC filters) over any openings that serve as intakes. Proper cooling (or lack of same) is one of my pet peeves. At one point, I was so obsessive on the subject that a close friend, upon seeing my system in action, commented "Wow, it's a total flight simming experience. Your PC itself even sounds like a jet engine."

Look in your WOE/Objects/Aircraft/F-21A folder, and see if the .lod files are in there.

AFAIK, I've altready posted the two areas that he needs to look at.
-
One of our moderators, Hrntfxr, used to work on them (knowing him, he performed intricate and delicate repairs on F-18s, using bubblegum, bailing wire, and duct tape ). He's another source of info.

It appears that you have either forgotten to transfer the model's lod file over, or you've edited out the pertinent line in the model.ini file

Green Hell 2 & SF2V: Three Questions
Fubar512 replied to eburger68's topic in Mods/Skinning Discussion
Yes you do. I've already tried getting away with not doing so on several older terrainsets, that I ported over to SF2, and the shaders were a no-show, every time. You need to use the new naming convention. -
Perhaps we can send it out to the .TOD club for terrains?

Update: Picked up U-571 on BluRay (it was on sale for $14.95 at Best Buy), and everything works as advertised. Unfortunately, it seems that to comply with HDCP standards, screen captures are disabled while playing a BluRay disk, even the native Windows "prt scrn" function is blocked

Well, the VPAF initially denied that 3020 had been shot down, until years later, when former VPAF pilots admited that 3020 had gone missing on the very day that Cunningham claims to have shot it down. Whoever flew it on the tenth of May, 1972, did so with great skill and tenacity.

Not really. The 17 was capable of achieving it's max G-loading well above Mach .7-.75. Simulating wingwarp can be achived by other means, and control lockup has been available in the series since at least SP (though it's "all or nothing".).
