"Why does Michael Bay get to keep on making movies?" 10 years since that song was made and still no justice!!

I'm using windows 7 I used ForceDX9=TRUE in the past but read on the forums that it is not applicable with windows 7. I tried ForceDX10 and DX11 set to TRUE but they also didn't help much. Either way turning off the DX10 shaders with the terraineffect edit makes terrains much more pleasant to look at with the far horizon distance. So Overall I'm pleased with the fixes

KC-767

Very nice! Any plans for a KC-46 skin? -
Well the Nvidia settings helped some, and then a fellow SF2 gamer friend told me to change the Background material effects shader from terfarterraineffect to just terraineffect and this helped with the fading distance enormously! Buildings and water still shimmer but a lot less than they used to. Thanks everyone

Thanks Fubar I'll try this setting in the Nvidia control panel. Wrench, Thanks for the info I haven't really gone into "mainmenu/options/graphics" in quite a while since I had everything set to unlimited last year, and I forgot that's where the shadow options are. If you still want me to post screenshots I can, but it wont show shimmering since it's a still shot of course. The horizon distances I have look just like the first two photos on this thread (http://combatace.com/topic/78531-may-2013-patch-horizon-distance/?hl=%2Bhorizon+%2Bdistance) and I have yet to figure out this issue as well. I have increased Horizon distance enough in the past, but not comparable to pre-May2013 patch level.

Hey everyone thanks for the replies. Fubar, I am using an Nvidia GT330M. It's an older computer and I know this isn't the best graphics card but everything was fine before the patch last year. Sundowner, How do I turn off shadows? Wrench, It happens in all terrains and what exactly does TOD mean? I'll get some screenshots up tomorrow. Thanks guys

Ever since the May 2013 patch I have had same problems that many others had with every terrain in SF2. These include the constant shimmering of buildings and water, and the fading distance of terrain objects and detail being incredibly short. I have tried every fix in the forums and all the recommended add-ons but still no luck. I have been able to fix the fading distance somewhat but it just makes other issues come up such as sky color being off and very very long loading times and game crashes. So therefore I just reverted back to the original issues as they didn't cause these additional issues. Here are the fixes I've tried http://combatace.com/topic/78531-may-2013-patch-horizon-distance/?hl=%2Bhorizon+%2Bdistance http://combatace.com/topic/72088-sf2-tod-buildings-shimmering-bug/ http://combatace.com/topic/73755-terrain-tweak/ I was wondering if anyone else has been as unlucky as I have or if I'm the only one who's still having these issues. If anyone has figured out a fix or even a small solution other than all the fixes provided on the forum please do share! Thanks everybody

Is not the Raptor too much to bomb ISIL?
warthog64 replied to Stratos's topic in Military and General Aviation
That's true about Syria, their air defense system is very capable and real! I'd only worry about MANPADS in Iraq, but in Syria the F-22 is the best choice to evade radar guided missiles. Syria certainly has modern Russian air defense systems like the SA-22, and plenty of older yet still capable SAM systems as well. Let's not forget that they have MiG-29's too! Iraq may have been given U.S. made stinger missiles in the last two years or so but I'm not sure. So ISIL could easily get their hands on them if so. Syrian rebels have been supplied with Western weapons, so it's possible some of them may have been acquired by ISIL since then. -
Don't use the weapons editor, it isn't needed for all modifications anymore in SF2. Just open the weapon_data.ini of the missile you want to edit and make sure these two lines are set to equal 7 1. WeaponDataType=7 2. GuidanceType=7 Then make sure the aircraft you want to carry them has "ASM" as an allowed weapon class.

warthog64 replied to Stratos's topic in Military and General Aviation
I'm not certain, but I'm sure ISIL has some MANPADS like the SA-7, SA-14, etc. These weapons are easy to get on the black market. In order to evade these you need to fly high and obviously small prop aircraft aren't the best way to do this. Milktrout covered the other reasons perfectly though. -
problem with drop-tanks

Sorry I was confused about what you meant, I'll give that a try. Thanks -
problem with drop-tanks
warthog64 replied to warthog64's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Is that the only option? I'd like to keep the data.ini in order to add weapon types and pilot models. If it's the only option I'll do it, but why is it just the Mystere that has this issue? No other stock aircraft with the same data.ini entries has this issue. -
The stock Mystere IV in SF2 Israel has an issue with its drop-tanks. They won't jettison, and they are always on the aircraft even when I don't load them on and they'll share the pylon with bombs.. I've tried deleting the "FuelTankName=Tank625_Mirage" from the data.ini but this of course just gives me no option of having fuel tanks at all so it's not a valid solution. I searched the forums but found nothing on the subject. Any ideas? I'm currently stuck.

map icons disappearing
warthog64 replied to warthog64's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Thanks! I did search first bit I guess I didn't notice this particular thread. -
I've noticed that after reinstalling SF2NA and then installing the expansion pack that all enemy icons have disappeared from the map view when playing the game. The icons were there when I first installed the game and flew a mission to check if the install worked, but after installing the expansion pack they all disappeared. I have no idea what to do. Any ideas? Thanks

PLAAF jet buzzes Navy aircraft
warthog64 replied to Lazarus1177's topic in Military and General Aviation
Yeah I didn't read the article, just the headline and first few sentences as I too thought what you originally thought. That is stupidly close, glad it didn't result in a midair. -

warthog64 replied to Lazarus1177's topic in Military and General Aviation
Nothing new, remember the 2001 incident when the Chinese plane actually collided with a USN P-3 when the interceptor flew way too close? That enemy pilot was also just trying to show off and scare the P-3 crew and made a huge mistake. This was just a similar pilot trying to scare the crew of the P-8, I agree it's unprofessional as the article says but it's definitely not the first time it has happened. At least this particular pilot knew not to fly too close and cause a potential midair.
