Many happy returns!

Capun's just put out a Sea Gladiator too. As his model is based on Thicko's models we could expect a Mk 1 in due course from him. Here's a search at the Military Machine blog for books on the Gladiator (there might be some Roman stuff in there too for you fans of Captain Clarence Oveur!): http://military-machine.blogspot.com/?domains=military-machine.blogspot.com&q=gladiator&sa=Search&sitesearch=military-machine.blogspot.com&client=pub-3868273468931858&forid=1&channel=9989165702&ie=ISO-8859-1&oe=ISO-8859-1&flav=0000&sig=mh1figYFoBb4pMbO&cof=GALT%3A%2399C9FF%3BGL%3A1%3BDIV%3A%23191919%3BVLC%3A663399%3BAH%3Acenter%3BBGC%3A000000%3BLBGC%3A336699%3BALC%3A80FF00%3BLC%3A80FF00%3BT%3AFFFFCC%3BGFNT%3Afffff0%3BGIMP%3Afffff0%3BFORID%3A11&hl=en

There's no options.ini in the main install C:\Program Files\Thirdwire\Strike Fighters 2 but there are options.ini files in the mod folders created after running the game in: C:\Documents and Settings\Allen\My Documents\Thirdwire\StrikeFighters2 C:\Documents and Settings\Allen\My Documents\Thirdwire\StrikeFighters2 Europe C:\Documents and Settings\Allen\My Documents\Thirdwire\StrikeFighters2 Vietnam C:\Documents and Settings\Allen\My Documents\Thirdwire\StrikeFighters2 Israel If I re-install the base game to the J drive do I need to leave those folders, move the contents except the options.ini files to the J drive and then edit the options.ini files to point to new mods folders in the J drive, or is there a way of taking everything off the C drive?

I've looked for this in the KB but can't find anything. I'm running on XP and I've got a merged install in C:\Program Files\Thirdwire and my mods folder is in C:\Documents and Settings\Allen\My Documents\Thirdwire. So far so good. However, I want to move or reinstall my merged install into a portable hard drive, so the path will be J:\Program Files\Thirdwire Now, how do I move my mods folder to the J drive? Do I create J:\Documents and Settings\Allen\My Documents\Thirdwire, or if I just create shortcuts for SF2, SF2:V etc from the J drive on the desktop and then run the game will it create a mods folder in the J drive and I can then move my existing mods folder over from C to J? Thanks

I've flown all of the sims on the list but push came to shove and I voted for F-19. It was the first sim that I really got into and spent ages on it, first on friend's PC (cyan sea et al!), and then later on my own Amiga and then PC. Truth be told, those first missions on my friend's computer were the best, and often lasted well over 1 1/2 hours (because the computer was just so damn slow!), threading your way between the threat circles of the SAM sites, dodging the IL-76 throwing AA-10 missiles at you and eventually tossing an FAE at the sub pens at Severdmorsk(sp?) but at least they gave you time to read a manual that was written like a Tom Clancy novel. After F-19, and before the Strike Fighter's series, probably the most time I've spent has been on the Janes fighters series, although I did like EAW a lot but still can't get it to run on my current system.

SF2: Tomcat Speculation
allenjb42 replied to column5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
My take on the next few releases, for what it's worth; SF2: Tomcat - From everything TK's said, I think this going to be GIUK or North Cape scenarios, like Microprose F-14 Fleet Defender back in the day. The F-14A will replace the F-4J on the USN's decks and he gets to re-use the A6 & A-7 (maybe with an A-6 cockpit). NATO planes could be re-used from SF2:E and he can add skins for Norwegian F-104s ( and maybe F-16s too). For the opposition maybe we will see a MiG 25, Bear and\or Backfire and some Sov warships (including Kiev and possibly a Yak 38 too?). It may well be easier for him to do Iran\Iraq (he has most of the other aircraft already available, except the F-5, so would only need skins and a terrain) but I don't see it happening. I wouldn't put it past him to include an Iranian skin for the F-14 as a teaser or to spur a 2nd Gen remake of this scenario though. I think after that we may see a return to SF2:E, with TK dialing it back to the 1940s\50s - he said as much when he said that he made the Spitfires for SF2:I with an eye on putting up some opposition for the P-51 over Europe in a merged install. So say he goes for a Berlin Airlift gone hot scenario we could see some USAF\NATO fighters from that era, like the F-80 and F-86, bombers like the B-29, and some more allied transport types, possibly a C-46 or more likely a C-54. The red side would get some prop Yaks or MiGs, maybe an early transport type and possibly an Il-10 to support the Red Army's thrust in western Europe. So, after a new game (SF2: Tomcat) and an expansion pack (SF2:E - Berlin Crisis), we may then see another new game - SF2: Korea, because by then then TK will have far fewer new planes to add, such as the Sea Fury, F4U and F9F for the UN and the La-9 for NK, and can concentrate on a new terrain and skins for the Koerean era planes. And in time an expansion pack for this one could give us a 1980s Korean War II scenario with F-4s, F-16s etc against MiGs, Sukhois etc. Of course I'm probably totally wrong! -

Op went well and am in ICU at the moment. I think they may move me to a ward later today or tomorrow. And the nurses...not too bad at all!
-
Six months later..... I finally got my date through for the op. I go in this Friday (11 June) and expect to have the procedure the next day. I should be in hospital for about a week and then resting up at home for 2-3 weeks before getting back to work. If I miss the release of the 1948/56 SF2:I addon at least I'll have a few weeks to play with it when I get home! Mannie, any chance of getting some hot Israeli nurses shipped over here?

This info is about the squadrons for which we have aircraft available in-game (including DAT planes). Some of these squadrons also operated other types which we don't have available, so I haven't mentioned them. The info covers periods outside those which you've proposed for the campaign Dave, but it's here if you need it. Air service: 10 Nov 1947 - 13 Dec 1947 Lydda: Tiger Moth, Dragon Rapide 13 Dec 1947 - 26 May 1948 Sde Dov: Tiger Moth, Dragon Rapide 13 Dec 1947 - 26 May 1948 Yavneel: Dragon Rapide, Bonanza 13 Dec 1947 - 26 May 1948 Nir'am\Dorot: C-47 Air Service became A (Aleph) Tel Aviv Sqn 27 Dec 1947 - Late June 1948 Sde Dov: Tiger Moth, Dragon Rapide A Sqn then became 1 Sqn: Late June 1948 - 21 June 1949 Sde Dov: Dragon Rapide, Bonanza A Flight (became part of 103 Sqn): 1 May 1948 - 26 May 1948 Ekron: C-47 26 May 1948 - 10 June 1948: Ramat David C-47 B Flight(became part of 103 Sqn): July 1958 Ramat David: Beaufighter, Mosquito PR.16 3 Sqn: 5 April 1948 - Late June 1948 Yavneel\Machanayim: Dragon Rapide Late June 1948 - 21 June 1949 Ramat David: Dragon Rapide 35 Sqn: Late Nov 1948 - 19 Jan 1949 Ekron: Harvard 69 Sqn: 15 July 1948 - Mid 1949 Ramat David: B-17 101 Sqn: 19 May 1948 - Mid June 1948 Ekron: Avia, Spitfire Mid June 1948 - End July 1948 Herzliya: Avia, Spitfire End July 1948 - Late Sept 1948 Ma'abarot: Avia, Spitfire Late Sept 1948 - 9 Nov 1948 Netanya: Avia, Spitfire, P-51 9 Nov 1948 - 30 May 1949 Qastiuna: Avia, Spitfire, P-51 30 May 1949 - Nov 1955 Ramat David: Spitfire (until early 1951), P-51 103 Sqn: 10 June 1948 - 1 July 1949 Ramat David: C-47, Beaufighter, Mosquito PR.16 1 July 1949 - 1951 Ekron: C-47, Beaufighter, Mosquito PR.16, Hudson 106 Sqn: December 1948 - 5 May 1949 Ekron: Hudson Hope that helps.

Well they could relaese it as a 30th Anniversary tie in in 2016! Seriously though, they're bringing out new Star Wars games all the time, and the first movie was released in 1977. BTW, Is it a sign that I'm getting old when I think anyone born after 1977 is just a kid. Is it just me?

Wings Over Russia
allenjb42 replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Prop Heads Forum
With all the Luftwaffe 08 FMs and TK's Spitfire FM that could maybe be applied to the DAT Mk1, we would only really need the Hurricane to be updated for it to be game on for an updated BoB campaign... -
Surfing the net looking for some online dogfighting. (did you see what I did there?)

On 8 July 1948 the Heyl Ha'Avir had 60 aircraft, although only 9 could be considered to be combat types (S-199s). The B-17s arrived around 15 July and the first of the Spits flew on 23 July. By 17 September IAF strength was 92 aircraft, including 20 fighters and 3 bombers. During the course of the war 15-18 aircraft were downed by AAA or destroyed on the ground, 2 were shot down by enemy fighters, 34-38 were lost in operational accidents, and 2 were captured by enemy forces. 23 pilots, 10 other aircrew, and 10 ground personell were killed , many of them foreign volunteers, 2 pilots were listed as MIA, and 4 aircrew were captured. 27 aircraft were downed in air engagements - 20 Egyptian, 1 Syrian, 5 British and 1 civilian. Another 6 aircraft were destroyed either by Israeli anti-aircraft fire or on the ground. Many of the Israeli units moved base during the course of the war. I'll dig out some information and post it to help with the campaign construction.

WWII Install ESC key
allenjb42 replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Prop Heads Forum
Have you checked the key maps in the game options? Maybe you inadvertantly set esc for exit the whole game instead of just to exit the mission? -
Spitfire!
allenjb42 replied to Gocad's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Any chance of this one at some point? Got to be one of the coolest Spit schemes ever, and fits in nicely with SF2:I\WOI too!
