As far as the color is concerned, Wrench's point about film and lighting could not be more true. In the attached pic, 510 is in a shadow and the nose matches Nyghtfall's dark interpretation. 505 is in direct sunlight and matches the stock gray better. Keep up the good work Nyghtfall!

My two cents..... Wrench's templates with Nyghtfall's outstanding decal work, is the way to go.

The Brits do this stuff all the time. When my company went to the UK on a unit exchange with 1RTR in 94, the guys we swapped out with painted "Chinese eyes" on all our tanks while we where gone. The story I heard about that paint job was engine failure which caused the F-4B to not be able to launch until it was replaced. Speys and J-79s just are not the same thing. So the USN flew a new engine over and a joint marine and RN effort got the jet FMC. When the F-4B was set to launch the next day it had some special decorations applied.

The picture of the A-6 cockpit floating around the internet with the F-14 style double paned late HUD and MFD in the BN station is of an A-6F which was never fielded. No HUD on fleet A-6E's.
